No More Excuses GB....end date extended
Posted by wyoroy on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 4:06 PM

Welcome to the No More Excuses Group Build.

This group build is dedicated to the unfinished kits that have been started and now take up space and are collecting dust.  Now's your chance to finish them, the rules are simple;

  • 1) The kit must already be started but not finished. Any stage of construction is acceptable.
  • 2) The build cannot belong to an active group build.
  • 3) Age requirement: One year must have passed since you started the model.
  • 4) Any scale, time period, both real and fictional, and any category: land, air, sea and space.
  • 5) Out of the box, scratch built, PE, resin. - Whatever makes you happy.
  • 6) Please post pictures of your progress.
  • 7) There is no limit to the number of builds you can enter.
  • 8) Most of all, you must have a great sense of humor and have fun (being a procrastinator helps).

The start date will be December 15th   2008. Open enrollment during the life of the build, and it will end August 1st 2009 (subject to change).  After all, we are procrastinators.  So wipe off those dust queens and get them finished.  I will post pictures of your completed build on the following page.

New end date will be 31 December 2009.

Here's the GB badge for this build.  I think it captures the theme nicely.

Question for you Roy, do we list all of our "Shelf Queens" or just the ones that we can reasonably hope (there's that hope word again) to finish in the span of the GB?

Also, if I listed all the unfinished kits that were given to me like you did I would have about a dozen more Shock [:O]  Do these really qualify since they're actually the result of someone else's procrastination?

Okay, guilty as charged...life has not given me as much free time in the recent past as I would like, but I think that is all over now, so here goes:

My hangar queens:
1/48 AMTech Hs 123A-1 (From Bombergruppe 2007)
1/48 Tamiya A6M2 Zero
1/72 Hasegawa H8K2 Emily (From IJA/IJN Rare WWII - my own GB!!)

Cheers,
Alex

You know that's a good question.  I just listed them with the note at the end.  I will do mine first and if I have time I will try for them.  There it is again, if I have timeWink [;)]

Roy, if there is ever a GB I need to join its this one!!  I have several unfinished kits sitting on the shelf that.....well, just need to get FINISHED!!  Some of them are unfinished from GBs that have ended, some are just ones that I started and never had a chance to finish.

So here is the list of what I'd like to submit for this GB.  Please let me know which ones qualify!

1/35 Tamiya Pz IV Ausf H (90% assembled - started Sept, 2006)

1/35 Italeri M4A1 Sherman (assembled, w/basecoat - started Nov, 2006)

1/35 Dragon Panther Ausf D (15% assembled - started Aug, 2007)

1/72 Dragon Panther Ausf G (75% assembled - started Nov, 2007)

1/72 Dragon King Tiger (P) (75% assembled - started Nov. 2007)

Yep, those are my "Shelf Queens"!!  As you can see I only build armor!  I can take photos and post them here to show their current state.

I actually had a couple more in mind, but realized that I started those in 2008, so they don't count!  S'OK, the 5 listed are plenty!!  If I can get them done this year I will be a happy camper!!

Roy:

I believe I may have a contender: my 1/32 Trumpeter P-38L. I think I may have entered it into a Gb at one time, but that's way past, I started the kit February 2005 and have not done much since.

If you feel this one qualifies, count me in as a fellow procrastinator! Having a deadline may help!

Some badge picture ideas, warning, one is NSFW and would need to be edited...

Warning #2 - This needs to be reworded to fit in an E-Rated forum...

This one is my favorite, and since this is a spinoff of weekend madness, very fitting.

I have a 1:35 Tamiya Stug IV, 25% complete from the long dead Arty GB from last year

and a Tamiya Zero I was targetting for the Pearl Harbor GB... about  0.05% complete, I washed the sprues! Laugh [(-D]

Well, I'm new to GB's and what better way to start somthing than put it off? Big Smile [:D] I made a small list of projects that I will "sign up" for. By the way, Calvin and Hobbes badges are the best! I like Weekend GB '08 the best! However, for this one, the badge with the cat is awesome!!! Since I'm new to this section, can somone give me a few "words of wisdom" concerning these? Or is it just straightforward? Time to hit the bench!!! (well, it can wait another day...)

1/48th Hasegawa F4U-5N "Soccer War" Corsair (custom moterized!)

1/72nd Revell X-15

1/24th Revell Ferrari 612 (I can't spell it)

1/25th Revell "Black-top-warriors" (Confused [%-)]) killer bee (aka baja VW beetle) dio.

1/72nd Lindberg B-17

1/12th AMT F-16 cockpit

If I find anymore stuff laying around in my really messy closet, I'll add them here!

1/48th Hasegawa F4U-5N "Soccer War" Corsair (custom moterized!)

1/72nd Revell X-15

1/24th Revell Ferrari 612 (I can't spell it)

1/25th Revell "Black-top-warriors" (Confused [%-)]) killer bee (aka baja VW beetle) dio.

1/72nd Lindberg B-17

If I find anymore stuff laying around in my really messy closet, I'll add them here!

Graham,

Best advice I can give is try and plan what you will do ahead of time and just take it one sub assembly at a time. It seems to help me a little if I just take baby steps on a build. I personally love doing 'pits. It's after those are done and the fusalage assembled and wings attached that I seem to hit the wall. Even if it's just painting parts still on the sprue like attenas, machine guns, landing gear, etc At least you are getting something done and even if they sit like that for awhile, you won't be getting stymied by all those little parts that we all put off doing towards the end of a build(I have learned this the hard way...) I can go on and on but I think you get the point. Also, if I'm justnot "feeling it" that night, I find something else to do.

Regards,

Jeff

Wyoroy, put me down for a 1/100 Tamiya Messerschmitt ME 163B. Yeah, I know it's not armor, and I usually only build armor.....but it's been sitting in a box, only about 5% done for the past two and a half years. Now it's finally time to finish it, finally. Cool [8D] It will be the second aircraft build I ever attempted, the first one ended up in the spare parts bin. Hope this one turns out better.Wink [;)]

By the way thanks for startin' up this GB, it finally gives me a reason to finish this aircraft.

Here some procrastination for ya.....

I'll post a kit later.

Seriously though.....

I'm in. This will be a great chance to finally get off my can and finish some models

Revell 1:32nd F-14A Tomcat (this is some serious procrastination....the thing just needs to be painted and it's done!)

Hasegawa 1:32nd F-16C (building is complete, needs to puttied and sanded and painted)

Hasegawa 1:32nd A-4F (see above)

Revell 1:32nd Panavia Tornado (see above....what can I say....I really like the building part, not so much the painting part)

Hobbycraft 1:48th A-4C (this one is really bad.....been painted white for about a year and a half...just need to mask the bottom and paint grey and it's done)

OK, here's a photo of the Queen of Queens!  The oldest of the ladies on the shelf!

Tamiya Panzer IV Ausf H.  Its been sitting so long some parts have broken off as I moved it around while dusting.  In fact it sat at that same spot in the photo for at least a month before I moved back to the shelf this past weekend!

I WAS going to take some new photos, but I'll tackle that......later! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I like the idea of this group build, and since I have been away from my workbench for 16+ months due to real life getting in the way, anything that I have started fits into the rules. Count me in!! I'll have to get back in the workroom and figure out what all I have in the in progress pile. I know for sure though that I have the following: Hasa 1/48th MiG-25, RoG Me-110 (1/48), RoG B-737-800 (1/144?), and a Hasa F-18F (1/72).

This might just be the kick in the behind that I need to finish at least one of these kits.

FSM might have to start a "Support Group for all of us Procrastinators" Laugh [(-D]  Part of my problem was 21 moves in the last 18 yrs. At one time I had  storage units in 3 states. Disapprove [V] But it gets better my Wife reminds me of some boxes that has not been opened up since who knows - and this is one of the first things I unwrapped.

S-RatI kid you not I started building this car in 1987 or 88 .... This thing is Huge  - 1/12 scale I stopped right there and taped that box up , I do not feel I am ready for that Time Capsule... The good news is I getting real close to finishing  the Heinkel HE-l111 and P40 B after working on the both of them most of today..... Wink [;)]

Paul, Matt Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the No More Excuses GBMake a Toast [#toast]  I've added you guys to the growing list.

Ernest, the Panzer looks great, take your time.  Whats a few days/weeks compared the the yearsWink [;)]

Sean, that auto has to be the oldest kit on the list?

So whats the story of these kits?  Was it paint, missing parts, life or bored with it?
