COLLEGE STUDENT GROUP BUILD...(rules page 2!)
Posted by ygmodeler4 on Friday, December 12, 2008 2:35 PM

This is the official thread for the College Student Group Build. There are no details to the build as of yet, but that's why I started this thread, so that everyone from the different forums could express their ideas and opinions in one thread.

As of right now we have interested:

ygmodeler4
smeagol the vile
bspeed (technically you are a college student =]
talltract93
Lucien Harpress
RadMax8
Voidses
Kevleerey
zackesch
beav

I'll PM everybody just in case they miss the link and don't visit the GB forums...

I was thinking about starting at the start of Spring Semester/term for whichever college/university you go to...and that lasts until you finish your last class for that semester/term....
Also, start posting when you think we should start and how long, rules..., etc, keep in mind though we have all different types of builders in here, fixed-wing, rotary, armor, sci-fi, autos, etc.

oops, I feel lame now.

Someone from my college asked if he wanted to make a donation to the college and he told her he was already paying thousands a year and she said she didn't know that and asked him when he started, so my dad replied that he was paying part of the tuition for me...she just hung up.

By rules I pretty much meant the start and end date, lol. Everything else is pretty much spoken for by every other GB.

I'll make a go of it.  Any rules on what accepted models are?

Perhaps tanks painted in school colors?

Or maybe one named after your mascot... I like the spring semester timeline. I'm pretty much fine with any subject, or everyone doing their own. Is everyone through with finals then? My last one was Thursday.

I've got three 'finals' left, although one is a take home essay test that is supposed to end up at ~17 pages long :'(, a 5 page essay take home , and an oral/spoken exam on tuesday...

On another note, my school's mascot was voted 2nd for mascot bestness by ESPN last year;

The Concordia College Cobber, its a giant, angry, ear of corn!  I'd love to have one of those sitting in a TC hatch...;)

I think that'd be a cool idea, except some people probably don't have mascots....cough, Roanoke College, cough

But I think that'd definately be a neat twist.

Can I make a suggestion about the dates? You crazy kids on semesters have a long time... I've got 10 weeks on quarters. How about we start some time in January and end in May? As for building for the school Mascot, I'd build a nut.A buckeye to be exact. We could build something to do with the state that our school come from, maybe...

lol

US History 175: B

Concepts of Physics 101: D+

GST 201 Humanities: D

I'm a history major so at least I can get good grades in what I'm planning on majoring in. Physics the grade was expected and couldn't be helped that much. Humanities is pretty much my fault but oh well, live and learn, its a new semester in a month and I've learned my lessons.

I cant wait till next semester, only one non music class, its t/r in the morning, my first class, the rest of the semester is spent in the music building, which is great, thats where my isntruments, and my tea is.

My school mascot is a lightning bolt...We are the stormers, from a local tech college here in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I am glad that this symester is over! No more getting up at 5:30 to catch a 6:18 bus to catch a 8:00 math class, then sit around for 3 hours till my next class starts.

 Ill post my grades.

math-C

Tech drafting 3-B

inventor basics-A

physics-A

I am majoring in Mechanical Design. My school has a deal with MSOE "Milwaukee School of Engineering" that when i graduate with my current program, i will go into MSOE as a jr. Im thinking of taking up the offer, the only issue is that their tuition is HIGH.

I only know one grade...which was actually my easiest class (you just had to show up...)

MS110, Physical Training, A

The rest are probably A's and B's...about time too, because econ, physics, and math courses took big bites out of my GPA.

I was forced to take a gym class.  Only one avaliable was 'fitness through endurance training' every tuesday and thursday.  Running for an hour, off and on, and whatnot.  Final was run for an hour without stopping...  our campus is 100% super steep hills and forests

I don't think there is a chance in the world that I could run an hour without stopping, I'm glad now that I don't have to ttake a physical Ed class

Running an hour straight isn't as hard as one would think. I don't want to make it sound easy, cuz it's not...but a lot of it is mental (well being in shape helps a lot! lol). During cross country my senior year I found it really hard to run even 10k (I was way out of shape though). But once you start and mentally decide youre going to do it, its alot easier.

Anyways....rules. I've come up with some ground rules with some suggestions...

Whatever model you build, it has to relate to your college/university, whatever...

examples would be: painting the model your school colors, putting your school mascot or name on the model...stuff of that nature. Be creative.

Build will begin when classes begin.
Build will end when classes end.

How do these sound for ground rules? Please post ideas adding/subtracting to these!

Im gona be honest, I really dislike the idea of painting it like your school colors.  I, for one, maybe im the only one, hold no loyalty to my school and would rather not have something in the school's colors arund me house.  Also, if anyone else's schedule is like mine, were not gona finish a kit during the semester.  I say extrend it from jan 1 09 to jan 1 2010

hmm

Nevermind on the rules then. I guess it can just be free for all. Build what you want sort of thing...

IMO going for a year isn't a good idea though...maybe making it last into the summer, but I would really prefer not to have the build go into next year. It actually makes a lot more sense now...not having it end when classes do...give people a chance to go home and use stuff they cant use in their dorms...but I really really dont like the idea of having the build last a year long. I think max time would have to be until beginning of August.

I think the max build time would be till the begining of the fall semester, I agree that it shouldn't have to be in school colors.

Shouldn't it be Ok if the models has a connection to the school you go to? I mean it could mean anything:

You got a teatcher that likes Mustangs? Or did you write an essay about Kursk?

This way we can build almost what we want, but the models still has a story behind them.

Just my My 2 cents [2c]

Voidses you make an interesting proposition, one that's been in my head but couldn't really define (i know, pretty easy to define, brain farts i guess)...How does everybody else feel about that?

THe build must connect with your college career/education somehow...however loosely, and you must tell the story of how...and try to make it interesting as well?
