At the bench last night, and I even worked on the Pershing. Wow.

A little detail painting, including cupola vision blocks.....I used Humbrol #105 green, with Micro Crystal Clear over them, to give a gloss. This was a new color for me, I usually use a medium blue....hmmm...

Some touch up of the wash blobs, dust and stowage, plus people, and of course a RR track base, and I can unofficially call this one done.

I think the next M26 will be a re-do of the one I did out of the box a couple of year ago, had so much fun on this one. Maybe late production, Korea.

Hi p38jl: I think it's great work.  Looks solid.  However I think your blue vision blocks and periscope heads are too stark.  What I try to do is to mimic what they would look like if one were to examine them from a distance -- basically very little light is reflected off of the blocks. I paint them gloss black and then am careful to tone down the glossiness with weathering.  For the blue to be as stark as you've painted yours, you're expressing that a ton of blue light is being reflected off the glass to the viewer's eye -- which I don't think is what you really want.  Hope this helps.

thanks, I might try that next time.. I get mixed reviews on how I do that.. some like it.. some don't.. what I did was paint on Testors Silver Chrome, in the square bottle, then paint on Tamiya clear blue over it.. trying to get a clear look as opposed to a blank look..  I'll give your version a try next time.. Thanks again,.,Smile

I like it!  All it needs is Moriarty on the back deck exclaiming "No leaks!"

Well, since it's an unofficail build, the boys could have "liberated" a Pershing......

Sadly, mine has sat untouched for a while, victim of my IDF obsession. Maybe if I score some RR tracks?

thanks for the Positive Waves....!  Smile

Great job guys! All that's left is p38jl's and we can wrap it up.

An overview on this GB:

I found this build both interesting and exciting to participate in. I'd like to thank all of you for all the encouragement and advice. As for the tank, it's sitting proudly in the entrance of the house so that everyone can see it passing by. You guys have also been a great audience too. Now let's hope we can all find each other again on another group buildCool

I even got an idea in my head; Everything Airborne(Anything related to paratroopers!). Don't steal my idea though. I hope nobody already did this. or it will be a big bummer!Crying

Works for me, unofficially of course.

Also, I tried some outdoor pics. Some stowage on the turret, figs, the base, dirt and dust, and I'm done.

OK, another wash on tank itself, tracks and running gear, and assembly: Yee haw!

Now if I could remember how I had the water can placed under the "don't strafe me" tarp........

My progress has been so slow as to be officially glacial in speed. I actually did get a wash on the tracks today, decals are sealed up, and wheels are on. Pics will follow if the smoke stays in the router today.....

Looks great to me! I've never seen a pic of a Pershing in white-wash either, so I think you correct in going with mud/snow/slush.

I got a bit of painting and decal work done,  will start back with another shot of clear gloss and then the washes and dirt.

Tracks so far have a black base coat, thin raw umber wash, and will get progressively lighter washes.

Tarps are painted, waiting on shadows and highlights, some stowage ready.

I've knocked the commander's vane sight off twice now, so I have unofficially decided to leave it off until everything else, and I do mean everything, is done.

Since I'm going to work for a few weeks, I'm calling the Pershing done.  It is from the 1st Tank  Co 7th Marines in the Frozen Chosin, 1950-51.  The white pastel on the front glasis somehow got contaminated with some green so it has a greenish tint.  I'll go back later and touch that up and and the M2 on the roof.

This was the Dragon kit from a few years ago and I'm almost ready to quit armor modeling because of it.  I hated the tracks but other than that the fit was pretty good.

Photo of the subject.  I tried to reporduce the effect on the glasis.  Don't know if it was wihte wash, salt stains, or mud.  I don't see any othe white wash cammo on any other USMC tanks of the period.

I'm still regaining my skills after years away.  I must be ADD because I can't seem to sit and build for more than 30 minutes before I have to get up and do something else.   So much to do, so little time...

Thanks for being here!

Jackpot! In the show, I bought a 1/48 P-51, Zero, Kingfisher, B-24, and a Canadian infantry set! Great deal too! There was an author there too, signing books that he wrote about a canadian superjet during the eighties. Competition, Awesome!

I'm craving for some bigger competitions now, you guys got any competitions nearby? Maybe during the summer we could meet.

Green is good.....base is MM Dark Green, for depth, and because I had it. I've got a couple of tarps made up to cover the stuff on the back fender, still in primer, and the tracks have the initial black on them. OD will go on soon, I hope. That's all very unofficial at this point, however.

I'd like to give this one a dirty, rain-washed and -streaked look, we'll see.
