Eye In The Sky GB - January 2010 - October 2010
Posted by Aggieman on Friday, October 23, 2009 9:04 AM

The title for this group build is creative and possibly open to wide variations of interpretation, but generally any aircraft used for spotting and/or photographing the enemy, or transporting generals to and from the front lines.

A definitive list is beyond what I have time to compile but would generally include aircraft such as the American Grasshopper, British Lysander, German Storch from WWII as liaison aircraft.  Scout aircraft from WWI or later conflicts such as Vietnam.  The Grumman Mohawk and Hawkeye are good choices.  Modern surveillance aircraft are included as well.  Any warbird could be fitted with a camera, typically where the nose guns would be located, so any such aircraft as that (P-38, Mosquito, F9F, etc) is eligible.

1.  Any scale is allowed.

2.  Simple OOB build or add to your build with scratch-built or after-market goodies.  Your choice

3.  Multiple entries welcome.

4.  Entries from other group builds are welcome so long as they fit within the rules here.

5.  Time frame: January 1, 2010 through October 31, 2010.  Can join at any time.

6.  And finally, take lots of pictures, discuss your build(s) and have fun!

Hey Aggieman. I don't want to commit 100% as of yet because I'm on the heavier end of GB commitments right now but if I can I'll try to get a hold of a Cessna Skymaster/O-2/Lynx from Arii. Right now I'd like to do it in Rhodesian colors. That might take awhile and I won't be able to start it until February if that.

I would guess that SR-71 is good to go, but EC-121 or EC-3 is not?

Looks like this is a go! Thumbs Up [tup]

Alright... I think I'll start with a 1/48 Eduard Bf-108 Taifun. Maybe follow up with a 1/48 Hobbycraft O-59. Mischief [:-,]

If you'll allow UAV's, I'll do an Accurate Miniatures Predator.  1/72 of course.  Heck, might even get her done on time.

Well I didn't win the Lysander, but am top bidder for a Hasegawa 1/32 Storch.

Here's another great idea for the GB, the pink low-level recce PINK Spitfire! :

I'm too clumsy:-( On the bench: Revell 1/72 Hurricane MkIIc, 1/96 USS Constitution, Academy 1/72 Tempest, 1/72 Hellcat, Tamiya 1/35 Sherman

 Hi Aggieman ;

 I would very much like to join in with everyone else on this Eye In The Sky GB .

However I'm not sure if my two choices for this group build would be eligible ,

 Firstly I was thinking of a U.S Navy 1/72 Mach 2 E-1B Tracer ;

Also this 1/72 Revell Royal Navy AEW MK 2 Seaking , They provide early warning cover for the BAe Sea Harrier equipped vessels .

Are these two kit's okay ??

                                        Kind regards John .

John, definitely on board with the Tracer.  The SeaKing, if used in the role of spotting the enemy, should also be good to go.

Hi,

I am recently back into model building and think this is a great forum. I have not done a GB before, but I think I understand the process. I just got a 1/32 Revell Westland Lysander and would like to do it up as one flown by the 161st "Moon" Squadron. I have not started the kit, and will not until Jan if approved. Do I have permission to join this GB?

Regards,

Stenscience

What is it that you've already worked on or completed?  Cockpit?  Put it on the back burner for the next couple of months and you're in.  Just the kind of build we need in this GB.

Yup. I built the cockpit (replaced the seats with some True Details bang seats) and am scrounging bits to make something to go behind all thsoe windows in the nose. And just glued the drop tanks together. Notihing else will happen until this GB kicks off. I have some nice Superscale Vietnam markings for her.

Well as I originally indicated in your original post guaging intrest I siad I'd like to do a E13A Jake, well I tracked one down today, wohoo!Approve [^] Bummer thats its only 1/144 scale but hey thats life.

So please put me down for a "Minicraft Model Kits 1/144 Aichi E13A Jake".  I'm about 99% sure I'll do it in french markings (1945-47) just the novelty.

I would like in as well, but I don't know what yet. I will have to take a trip to the hobby store when my SU25 is closer to being done, to see what catches my eye.

Hey guys, I have my model for this one now. After thinking about it for a while, I thought a Vigilante would be fun, and lucky enough the Hobby store had one. Although I prefer 1/48 scale, I realize it would be huge in that scale, so 1/72 is fine. The cockpit alone is made up of 32 individual pieces! I'm going to be working on this one for a while. Probably start after Cmas sometime.

Well you might need to drop me from the list as I am going to be relocating back home soon and getting back online will be a low priority. Plus the fact I still dont have any kind of camera yet to take pictures with.

So I hopfully will see you all soon.
