Battle of the Atlantic - 2011
Posted by Aurora-7 on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 11:49 AM

I have a Revell 1/72 Snowberry I've been collecting research data for and thought a GB in FSM would be an interesting way to see if there are any other builders out there with a similar desire. Corvettes, U-Boats, destroyers, cruisers, the Hood, the Bismark, even patrol aircraft (PBYs, Sunderlands, etc) all that sailed/flew and fought in/over the Atlantic waters during the second world war (1939-1940).

I'd like the Start Date of 2/24/2010 (the 70th anniversary of the day the Snowberry was laid down).

List of Build Members:

Aurora-7      Revell 1/72 Snowberry

Aggieman    Trumpeter 1/48 Condor

I have a SBD Dauntless I was thinking of doing in the Atlantic scheme. I just finished one for the Pacific GB so I might be able to do another and fix the things I didn't do on the other one.

Sure, that's a good idea and far enough away to be realistic about. I'd probably add to my Coastal Command collection, in particular if you'd allow crossover builds.

I have an RAF Coastal Command B-17. Its scheduled for a different build but I like the paint scheme of the RAFCC

Crossovers are no problem. I don't favor exclusive builds. Share your project with as many places as you'd like.

Dirk, I'd love to see a model of a 17 done up in Coastal Command. I've toyed with the idea of doing my 1/48 Monogram Liberator as one.

Just no one try sneaking in a tank, please, for this build. Wink [;)]

Why no tanks? There should be a few at the bottom of the Atlantic somewhere.

Sure, targets are valid subjects.

I guess in that sense, tanks as cargo (or sunken cargo) would be valid, too.

Deck cargo! After all, Liberty ships were the whole point, right?

Amazing I just ordered the Trump 1/700 USS Washington, Trump 1/700 HMS Eskimo Tribal Class Destroyer and the Tamiya 1/700 King George V this morning. Anyone see the connection with these three ? I have been wanting to do a Naval Dio for some time.  I have several other projects at this time but hope to have them on the shelf by 2010 Thumbs Up [tup]

Of the Graf Spee? I think it looks pretty nice for what I paid. I read plenty of stuff on here about how it stacks up against Trumpeters offering, and how both kits have shortcomings. In the end I could not justify a near $100 for the Trumpeter offering, but $40 for this one was reasonable.

Michael, I too am working on a Corvette, basically I only have the hull painted at this point.  I would love to take a look at that link but I only get the error page.  Could you please check it and post it again.  Thanks.

I may join you for this GB later after I seehow far along I get on some other builds.

Dave,

Try cutting and pasting the text below into your browser's address field. The link works fine for my Firefox browser:

http://theflowerclasscorvetteforums.yuku.com/

Good luck with your corvette. Hope you can join the build next year.

Anyone, else having trouble with the link?

I also have this link to Flower Class Corvette data:

Thanks Michael, the original link now works for me.  A server somewhere along the line must have been down.  Thanks.  I've seen the second link before, good stuff there too.

Please confirm me for a Sea Hurricane. If I can get it, I'll do the 1/48 hasegawa sea hurricane as a cam launch, if I cant locate the kit (its discontinued) I'll have to mod a normal MK1, so either way, a CAM Hurricane
