Posted by The Count on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 5:04 PM

Alright guys I wanna do a group build. I dont know a lot about setting them up so any of you that are please feel free to take control.

I would like it to be for a group of cars or trucks, possibly planes. If we do a plane id like it to be From WWII era.

BUT I REALLY WANT TO DO THIS AND CANT SEEM TO FIND ONE TO GET INTO. Help me out fellas.

Count-I've not run a GB yet, but my first thought would be to pick a theme, i.e., race cars, custom cars, etc. of if you choose the WW II plane direction, then a specific type of plane, theater of operation, specific battle, etc.  Then propose it and see if you get any takers.  If you go the auto theme route, then I would also suggest posting over in the Auto forum....in the past auto theme GB's haven't been very successful-if you choose an auto theme, I hope you have better results.

Good luck.

Bob

Just keep it general if you are doing an auto build.  Too specific and you will end up with a GB of one.  Put the idea out there, and be patient....it can take a couple of weeks to gather momentum.

I'd second the suggestion for keeping it very broad. Autos are one of the smaller interest groups on FSM so you don't have a large pool to start with.

The others have given you good advice on how to proceed. If you do an automobile build I'm in. I have two NASCAR kits and an '87 T-bird.

I'm interested.  I'm already commited to two GB's, but I think an auto GB would be cool.  I have a porsche 956 (lemans racer) that I started, and I could use a little motivation to get it going.  I haven't done much.  I was using Alclad black gloss and that stuff was total crap.  I haven't touched it since.  So, if you'll take a started endurance racer, I'm in.

Cheers,

Greg

I'd love to join. I have mostly muscle. I have been collecting over the years and am a big Chevy fan, so I have a string of Impalas ranging from 58-67 and a short string of Chevelles. Some Mopar, and one '36 Ford.

Hi all.

Did a GB for autos idea die off? I work in many genres, mostly sci-fi but right now I'm doing an auto. I'd like to participate if it doesn't matter I just started my project , a 'hot rod' qualifies AND if someone revives this idea?

Thanks.

I don't want to step on any toes but if no one else is going to run with this I'll do it, hopefully it will breathe some life into the auto section.

If 5 people besides me will commit to a general automotive GB, I'll put one together. The rough outline would allow any civilian based vehicle, daily drivers, race cars, commercial vehicles etc. Basically anything you would post in the auto section would be acceptable.

Military vehicles based on an off the shelf civilian design (CUCV, Dodge M880, staff cars, technicals etc) , or civil conversions of military vehicles  (5 ton turned into a fire vehicle or utility company truck etc) would be ok, with approval. The primary consideration being which part of the forum you would put it in if it wasn't part of the GB.

Time frame will be very flexible, starting soon and ending at a later date. Wink

Hi Aaron,

My main interests are Group C (Le Mans) and Formula One racing cars. If it's general enough to include either of those, then you have my commitment.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Race cars are definately in, if it is a truck, car, motorcycle, or motorized unicycle available to the public (even if only members of the public with very deep pockets) it would qualify. they do not have to be street legal or in regular production.

By general automotive I mean wide open, to generally civilian ground transpotation, not refering to only "regular" cars you see on the street. Somewhat Sci-fi cars like Speed Racer's Mach 1 or the Batmobile, and even bizarre stuff like some of the Wierdoes models (those with a ground vehicle anyway) would also be acceptable if someone wanted to go that way.

If you would post the finished model in the automotive section of the forum, it should be fine.

Also started models will be allowed as long as you actually have a fair amount of work to do before it is finished. If it will allow a few weeks of participation in the GB I'll allow it, if it is going to a post with here is what I'm working on, followed an hour later with a here is all done now that I've glued the bumpers on post, then it isn't. A certain amount of the honor system will be in effect when it comes to started kits.

Hi Aaron, thanks for picking this up.  I have a couple of cars that I am stalled on.  I'm not very far into either one.  I have a Tamiya Porsche 956 "Kenwood", and a Revell Trans Am Mustang "Whistler", that I could certainly use some motivation on.  Both got stalled early on due to mishaps, and sometimes (ok, most of the time) I have a hard time wanting to redo stuff at the begining of a build.

If this is a go, I'll dig them out and take pictures of where I am at.

Thanks again.

Cheers,

Greg

I'm counting 5 + me in just a few hours, so I guess we are on.

I'll make a fresh post for the GB in a bit after I've drafted up the basics. Since it sounds like several of you have something ready to go, I'll give it a start date the same as when I make the official GB post and probably run it into June so even those who don't get started until the first of the year will have a full 6 months.
