a very dumb question on how to start
Posted by Railfan 233 on Monday, June 7, 2010 3:37 PM

I know, this is probably a dumb (or should that be, stupid) question. I have been thinking of possibly starting a group build here (subject unknown, more than likely rust-related) but I have no clue how to start.

I understand that there are badges for participants. Do I need to make them myself, or will it be comesort of computer-generated thing?

Also, how do I set everything else required up? and is theyre any other considerations I should know about?

Well, im no expert. but everything has to be done by you (participants will help out too) first thing. have a look around at how others are layed out. what subjects are out there. then post a thread asking who would be interested. (optional) once youve got your subject matter, sort out some rules, find a pretty picture and put some words on it (i made mine in windows paint)

Bear in mind that at the moment there are ALOT of GB's going on. possibly wait till later in the year. or spend quite a bit of time drumming up interest.

O.K. When will be a good time to start?

I was hoping to do something to kick-off my Summer Vacation (officially starts this Wednsday at 12:05, when I will be getting home off the bus) but, if that won't work, I guess I'll have to wait untill mid-summer or next year ( I would like to be out of school for the build, so I won't have to worry about homework)

Alright, I'll try to find something to join in on No clue as to what to join in on, most of my kits are stalled projects, finished projects, or parted-out projects, and other stuff that would be mis-match for most of the group builds I have looked at ( unless an Estees model rocket would count as a kit for the Rocket Power GB, which is doubtfulConfused   )

Accually, I probably could start sending some posts out, to get ideas for if my group builds will accually float.

Or, I could do a group build for free paper models. Just do a Bing search, and you can get them in any way shape or form, Perfict for anyone, as any interest is welcome. All you need is a printer, internet, computer, and cardstock paper (cardstock can be found in the office supplys at Wal-Mart for less than $5.00)

It could work here right now, since a paper model can be built while your waiting for glue to dry, paint to cure, or when you need a break before you rip your hair out from frustration. Mabe I do have a winner.Big Smile

I've been in dozens and have yet to host one, don't care to. If you were to join a couple it'll keep you plenty busy, and all of your questions will be answered. If you want to host one, you need to toss out your ideas and get at least ten interested people before you take it any further. As far as what you have, look at a GB, figure out who is the host and what the rules are, post to it and say "Hey Flash, I have an Estes Model 200 rocket that's about 20% done, I wonder if I could join?".

If you join one, plan to finish. It's a lot of work to host well; I've seen quite a few disappear, so if someone's taking the time, we owe it to them to see it through.

I have already sort of started with a Group Build, the  Red, white and YOU! any kit NOT produced in China or Japan  build.  It's been interesting how it's been going, and I already have a kit lined-up. I'll let you know how it goes, and I'll take it from there.

Good choice, get to know a few of the members before hosting a GB
