Captured by ze Germans GB
Posted by plasticaddict on Thursday, June 24, 2010 3:02 AM

Hi folks,

One of my long-standing projects is to build models of aircraft that were captured by the Germans and flown by the Luftwaffe.

There are mainly two challenges in this proposed GB: finding documentation and producing/finding suitable decals.

Participants may build any aircraft (in any scale) that was "captured and flown" by ze Germans during the 2WW; I think the only qualifier for this GB would be to document your favorite plane was indeed captured & flown.

Well, this is my proposed GB idea. I suggest we start 1st Sept. 2010 and finish 1st March 2011.

Anybody interested?

Cem.

Hello plasticaddict, it's nice to see new members getting right into the forums, but word to the wise join a few GB's first to see how their run. It gives you a sense of what it's like to be in a GB and how the person needs to run them. Afterwards then start up polls in the respectable thread to see if their's enough interest for the idea to be a success. Right now their's ALOT of GB's currently running so I don't know how popular this idea will be at the moment. But if you want to stick with this idea perhaps bring it up in the fall or winter when some GB's start to end.

Otherwise wish you the best of luck with your GB's.Yes

  Hello everyone,

I have decals from "The fine art of decals" sold by Dave Klaus, former Cutting Edge, still on sale for a slightly steeper price on his site. They are "Zircus Rosarius" pt 3: P-51B, Spit XI and Typhoon. There is a mosquito on another sheet among others... Check them out as they would be essential for such a group build, being one of the few dedicated German-captured markings sets I have seen...

I love captured aircrafts schemes, and would suggest you widen the group build to cover all the captured aircrafts of WWII. But since we are here with the Allied in German hands for now, I am in with the above decals for a car door Typhoon which looks gorgeous... (The kit is great but about 1 mm too deep in the fuselage, which I will correct.)

A word of advice: The yellow bottom typical of these captured aircraft is a very tough colour to apply because of very poor coverage in most cases. Undercoat with white the bottom, as yellow is probably close to aluminium in difficulty to apply neatly...

I am a slow builder so I might not show up for a while, but will drop in often...

Hope this turns out to be well attended! I wish my British Dinah already started could be featured, but so be it...
