Stage Left nice work on that tiny engine YesYes Took a look at those pushrods on my engine and wow don't know if I will try them or not. Cant wait to see more of your build.

Nomad68 a very good start on Miss America. You are a lucky one to have been able to work on her for a time, I envy you that. Are you going to go with the old paint scheme or the newer one ?

Hey everyone I actualy got to work on miss America and have WIP Pics. I was lucky enough in the late 80s to work next to the hanger that Miss America was based at. It was the Fort Collins downtown airport in CO. Her crewchief at that time was Ray Middleton who had his business next door. I helped swapp the race engine out for the airshow stock Merlin. I feel in love with the plane and picked up the old Monogram kit and started it and now will finish. If you notice the wings and the stab are clipped. and the panel lines are smotthed out and flushed rivits filed with filler this plane was clean airodynamicaly. ready to primer will have more pics later.

Thanks vetteman.......I appreciate the nice words, but I've seen your work and you definitely do your plastic justice. I don't think you'll be following me a whole lot, especially since that Texan turned out just beautiful.

Thanks Scorpiomikey.....here we go.....

The kit

The engine with ignition ring

And with spark plugs and wires. Most radials have two spark plugs per cylinder, but my research shows that the Gee Bee radials only had one.

Scorpiomikey,

I know it's three months into the GB (kinda the opposite of the 'need for speed' philosophy), but I was wondering if I could jump in here with a Testors/Hawk 1/48 Gee Bee R-1 (Golden Age category, of course) ?

I am going to use foil, Reyonlds Wrap Stick out tongue from Vons Market. 25 ft roll, the small one Clown Will start it after the holidays. Risky Business doesnt race anymore but I used to see it at Van Nuys Airport all the time parked on the approach ramp to 16R. On short final she was really pretty to see sitting there let me tell ya.

Well Scorpiomikey good news is I am getting closer to starting the Gee Bee R1 and I am wanting to build a shiny P-51 so will be building Risky Business for this group. It will be a 1/48 Revell P-51D, Risky Business was a pretty much stock Mustang so it wont need much in the way of modifications to the kit.

Well, the PE and Resin arrive, its a little intimidating to be honest. I really wanna do a good job on this, But the amount of detail the PE goes into, i think my fingers might be a bit fat lol.

Sweet, Im thinking of calling it "The colonel" or "Wing Commander" some sort of rank to go with the chevrons which  im now thinking of trimming with gold.

Scoripomikey I am looking forward to it. For me the toughest part of my what-if racer was coming up with a name. I think I had like a dozen picked out and while coming up with the lettering style the name jumped out and hit me between the eyes, wasnt even close to anything I had on my little list

I hope to be able to start my first build for the group the first part on January, the GeeBee R1 then I will have to think up another what-if. I find building them a blast.

Hey guys, thanks for the support. Missing a deadlines no big deal, hell i do it all the time at work lol (oops lol)

Youll be glad to know im now on medication to sort out a few of my problems and im now running smooth again. I should be a little more consistent now.

I still havent had any luck finding anything to do as a racer. Ive got  little spare cash this week so i might go hunting in the LHS and see what i can drag up.

I hear ya Howard sometimes GB's can be way too much fun. I have had the problem of over committing this past year and have missed completing my first one Embarrassed. I hope its the only one I miss.

Scorpiomikey not to worry it seemed the first one started a bit slowly but I think it is due to people ( like me ) trying to get other builds out of the way before starting a racer. At least for me the racers I have built seem to need my full attention.

Have to resist the urge to sign up for a few other GBs till I take care of what's going now.  I like getting in the GB thing . Great way to share.

DittoWhat he said, since there's a year, I've got a bunch of other stuff to finish. Sometimes I wait until the last three months or so, but no worries, I'll be there.

Here's a pic of my father-in-law, where I got us 50 yard line seats and a chick, at Reno this year. He's going strong at 90 and I'm pleased to be in his crew.

Thank you, Bruce.

Scorpiomikey  I have the monogram 1/48 P-51D "Miss America"  that I would like to build in unlimited, I believe that is the correct category If that is OK.

Thanks
