Hollywood GB? Feeling the waters
Posted by Konigwolf13 on Friday, November 19, 2010 2:49 PM

Just feeling the waters for a new GB, not planning to start till at least start March 2011. The idea would be Hollywood Models. For example, M47 used as Tigers in Battle of the Bulge, or F-5s as MiG-28's in Top Gun, or paint jobs as done in movies like Maverick's or Iceman's rides in the aformentioned Top Gun or using a specific kit made for movies like the old Aliens dropshop and APC kits. As long as its been in a Movie, TV Series or OAV it's fair game. Any interest?

Hi Andrew, if you get it going, I would be happy to join.  I would most likely do an automotive subject, but I might try my hand on something Star Wars instead.  I have a Gulf sponsored Porsche 917 that I could do up as Steve McQueens in "Lemans".....hmmm....

Cheers,

Greg

I was thinking about doing Col Hesslers M-47 "Tiger" so depending on the time frame I may be in.

I was thinking of doing something like this myself, but luckily you have beat me to it! Saves me the work. Seriously, I think it will be very interesting, given the wide range of possible subjects, to see what people come up with. I am definitely interested. how long would the build run?

Surprised not more people have chimed in like the Scifi Guys(Macross, GundamStar Wars, etc) or the wing guys(Airwolf, Blue Thunder, etc).

OVA covers a lot of real life subjects too.

How about the Academy Awards Ceremony date of Feb 27 as the start date? End date maybe the following Academy Award date? How about this for a badge idea?

Love the start and end date (Who watches the academys anyway right?, bonus points for an academy kit LOL).

I like the concept of the badge might change a few things.

Hi Guys, I'll come and play too!

I've been looking for an excuse to do the Bell 212 out of Matrix. Jet black with a minigun .. alright!

I've also got the Blue Thunder in the stash, but that's been started..

Maybe one of Killgore's Hueys from Apocalyse Now? I've just built the PBR and they'd be good companions.

Or the Bat 21 "O-2".

Oh dear, what have you started,  Andrew?

I've been wanting to build the Jaguar hearse from Harold & Maude for a long time. I've got the Jag kit and the landau irons for the hearse sides. I'm a bit concerned with time and enthusiasm but I'll go ahead and give it a shot.

Andrew: For some reason I was thinking you were starting on January 2011. After looking again since you're starting in March I think I should be free so could you please mark me down?  I'm not sure of what I'd be doing, I've got a pile of stuff in the stash that would qualify.

Also are you going with movies/TV in general or strictly Hollywood? I mean would a subject from a British or Japanese movie/TV series qualify?

If you do get this started I'll definitely sign up.   The first ideas that come to mind are sci-fi subjects, but your "F-5 as MiG" idea from Top Gun has me wondering what would be involved in getting together one of the Mi-24s from Red Dawn.

For simple interest alone I'd say that I am. But I'm just not one to commit too far in advance.Wink

I also like the GB badge although IMHO it really doesn't need the lil Oscar statue too.

I might be interested.  I have allways thought about doing a scratch build of the TV Show Babylon 5, the menbary White Star ships they use in i think season 3 on.  Or doing one of the Space Craft that the SGC uses in the TV show series Stargate SG-1.  If this qualifies I would be in.  But not till later on in march got my own GB going on right now as well.  What are we looking at for a close date????

Goodness180: Actually someone did produce a garage kit of the B5 Minbari war cruiser. I got one in my stash, still haven't gotten around to it. The main hull looks pretty good but the fins are somewhat off. No idea who did it as there's no company name on the box or anything. Probably because the thing was totally illegal, no license from Warner Brothers at all. Still if you should decide to do it I'd love to see it.

Anything I do would probably be some sort of SF subject as well. I've got a pile of Trek, B5, and Doctor Who kits as well as the recent Aoshima Airwolf kit.

I'm currently working on a couple of Mach 2 1/72 scale C-123 Providers , there's two more in the stash with another two on order . While I was searching around the net for reference pic's for my current builds , I kept seeing the film promotional image for "Con Air " which star's Nicolas Cage , John Cusack and John Malkovich . I'm not 100% sure if the aircraft was a C-123 Provider and after a quick search around the net I haven't seen a good pic of what the color scheme would have been . Anyone have any additional info on the aircraft , if it turns out to be a C-123 Provider and I can find a good picture of one , I'll jump in......

Apparently my Google-fu was strong tonight, I found this site for the Con-Air C-123

http://www.oldwings.nl/content/con_air/con_air.htm

I was watching North by Northwest the other night , and was thinking the park ranger's station wagon used towards the end of the movie could also be kind of fun to build.

Thank's for the link Aaron Yes

There was some interesting info on the C-123 aircraft and the movie .

I copied this pic into the computer...

I also just came across this one of the nose art....

I'll have a search around Hannants web site at their decals and see if I can find a similar eagle and some type of ball and chain .

Really??? I would be very interested in seeing a picture of what you got.  Might be able to do a little googling and see where they came from.  I would be very interested in finding a nice B5 kit or a Stargate SG-1 kit and not the stupid death glider kit, i want one of the SGC ships.

I'll see if I can find it, probably buried deep in my stash my now. I remember they called it an 'Angelfish' to avoid the whole copyright issue. I think I picked it up from Monsters in Motion back when B5 was still on the air so we're talking about 15-20 years ago. It came in a plain white box. I also picked up the Whitestar kit - called a 'Shadow Killer' from Warp models in the UK. Not sure if the 'Angelfish' was from Warp or not.

Wouldnt mind a Whitestar and a Romulan D'deridex (similar look/wing shape thing) in the stash.

Thanks for the idea Andrew!

Here's the Minbari cruiser:

As you can tell it's not the best representation - even for a garage kit. Not sure you wouldn't be better off just scratchbuilding the whole thing.

BTW: This is the starship in question as she's supposed to look:
