Wow, what a spectaculat thing that'll be assembled... Sounds like a candidate for an "exotic artillery" theme... I wonder if we could stretch a point and include it in HGWT 2? Anybody else got any thoughts on that???

Cheers, Mike/TB379

How about a nuclear artillery (tube, rocket, missile arty - includes Nike Hercules) group build?  Lots of candidates available in currently available kits and OOP kits (if available in your stash).  Newly re-released Atomic Cannon, M55 8-inch SP, and Corporal missile kits would be a good start.  Lots of delivery systems to choose from.

Ahh...I see.  Really big guns.  Would definelty be interesting.  I don't have anything like that in the stash but I can certainly remedy that. Wink

I have some other SP artillery kits though.  I hope to acquire a few more in the near future.

Okay, stimulating thinking...

Railway guns -- the Leopold and its kin. The giant  morters, (Thor and the other five the Germans built). The Tiger Geschutzwagen... What about heavy Russian SP artillery that we rarely see in the west? Chinese heavy guns? Did ther Japanese have anything particularly exotic?

That atomic cannon would be quite a sight when finished.

An exotic artillery theme would be interesting.  What else would qualify for that theme?

I picked up my Atomic Cannon from Revell/Renwall yesterday.  It is huge!  It's 1/32 scale and I think it will be about 32" long on the carriers.  The detail looks good and the decals look good.  Too bad it isn't SP.

Great builds all!  Sorry I wasn't able to complete the M40 in time.  If you decide to have a round 2 I would definetly be in.  If not I will just complete the model and post up some pics.

Thanks.

There's been some great work done here, guys, we have six listed completions from eighteen proposals, and there were amazing things happening on other projects -- Pvt. Mutt's incredible brass work, for instance, and we had a Panzerhaubitzer 2000 underway as well I believe (?)

Would anybody like another go round to get projects done? We could either call it an extension of HGWT or even HGWT 2 -- what do you think? I would certainly like a chance to take a shot at a big 2000 myself, or that AS-90 I was thinking about.

If anyone fancies more on this theme (I know JeffB is keen!) just let me know -- there's no reason why not!

Cheers, and thanks for making this a fun and instructive build,

Mike/TB379

Sign me up again.  I have the Revell/Renwall  8" Howitzer and a Trumpeter Type 83 sitting on the shelf.

I finally finished my AS-90.  I think I beat the June 31st deadline.  Big Smile  I think I will leave it clean.  I need to work on my weathering skills on some less than perfect builds I have laying around.

I would fancy some more time on my  Dragon M7 Priest. I have been taking some photos, but need to upload them. I will try to post some tonight.

I am ordering a Verlinden storage and ammo kit for this and hopefully have it next week. I am looking for some figures and the only thing I have found is Warriors 3 - two figure sets, but they are $25 each. I might try to convert some older Tamiya infantry soldiers and turn them into gun bunnies.

I am actually getting some bench time since it has been over 100 degrees for going on 3 weeks. Yardwork grinds to a stop when you can suffer a heat stroke just getting the mail.

JeffB -- great work! It sure looks a complex model, and the brush-applied winter camo with the rain wash-off effect is very realistic! Well done!

Updating page 1 at this time.

Thanks everyone for your input along the way..look forward to participating again!

This paint scheme was very difficult for me, but is adds something unique to the collection!

I really enjoyed looking at the builds in the BG. Some really good builds and tips shared.

I did start my M7 Priest last month, but never took any photos. Sorry.

Well, gents, we are rolling up to the official end date for this GB, and we've had some sweeet completions, redleg's diorama is a stunner and the first diorama in any GB I've hosted (much appreciated!)

I think we still have some builds progressing, and I am always wide open to the possibility of as much extra time as anybody needs, the idea is to get the models built. I had hoped to come back for an extra subject myself but the last few months have been crazy in RL. I've had four completions this year, and they were all by February...

It's been a fun build on great subject matter, and I would love to revisit it for HGWT II at some point -- what do y'all think?

Cheers, and thanks for being part of it!

My Trumpeter AS90 is built with a few minor details to be added.  I started the painting today with a primer coat of Testors medium green from the can.  I'll be using Tamiya paints for the rest of the project.  This will be my first time with Tamiya paint.  This should be interesting.

Is anyone else excited about Revell coming out with the Atomic Cannon again?  I'll have to get one this time!

Redleg:  That diorama looks awesome!  It tempts me to begin thinking about maybe making a plan for something like that.

After how ever many months this GB has been going, I have started my AS90.  I am not totally impressed with this kit.  The subject is cool, the model suffers from not being square.  The box structures don't quite fit together like they should.  In any case, I think I can make it look good with some effort.

Sorry guys.....forgot to post this here on Mon.

It is fitting that I finish this model for the 1/40 FA on Memorial Day weekend.  To all my FA brothers at from the 1/40, Happy Holiday

Well I was down to details. First I drilled a hole in the chassis and thru the base. Using a furniture screw and nut I secured the M108 in position. To make the tracks look proper on the ground, I coated the underside of the tracks with cell-u-clay tinted with Raw Sienna acrylic. I used the same mix tor “glue” all the details sitting on the ground.

As for the details

·         M16s- Dragon M16 kit, painted Tamiya Flat Black on the plastic areas and Alclad Burnt Exhaust for the metal areas.

·         105mm Ammo Crates – Custom cast resin, custom decals, Poly Scale US Earth Base and coated with Tamiya Buff. After flat coat, dusted with MIG VN Earth pigment.

·         Section Chest – Resin cast, Poly Scale Tac Dk Green, Alclad Steel on hinges and latch, dusted with MIG VN Earth pigment.

·         105mm High Explosive – Resin cast, Alclad Pale Gold casing, Tamiya Dk Copper rotating band, projectile Tamiya OD, PD fuse Alclad Pale Gold, MTSQ Time fuse Tamiya Flat Black, custom decals.

·         105mm WP – Resin cast, same as HE except projectile is a mix of Tamiya Olive and Cockpit Green.

·         Plywood – 1/64” plywood, cut to scale for 4 x 8 sheet, grain enhanced using a Winston Oil Dark Sienna wash, dusted with MIG VN Earth pigment.

·         Bug Juice container – Tamiya, Alclad Steel

·         Gas Cans – Resin Cast, Poly Scale Tac Dk Green, Floquil Bright Oil for spilled diesel stains.

·         105mm Fibers – AFV, Tamiya Flat Black, gloss on the end caps

·         Aiming Posts - .040 styrene rod, Tamiya Flat Red and White

·         50 cal Ammo Cans – AFV, Poly Scale US Med Green, MIG Dark Wash.

·         50 cal Ammo Belt – Academy, Alclad Pale Gold and Tamiya Flat Black

·         M2  50cal – Parkerized finish with a 70/25/5 mix of Tamiya NATO Black, Metallic Grey and JA Green. Handles are Tamiya Flat Black

So without further waiting, here is the finished M108 of the 1 BN 40 FA form Vietnam

As always thanks for stopping by. Your comments good or bad are always appreciated.

Next up may be the M1200 conversion of the M1117

Remember a vet! Happy Memorial Day

Well done, castelnuovo! Looks a treat, dusty, tough, businesslike, and the tracks sag very nicely indeed.

Ditto  Nice work!

My work schedule was changed for a while and I wasn't able to get to the bench for a bit.  I should be able to get working on the M40 tonight.  Sorry.

From one mother to all you others….Happy Mothers Day!! In a nice way!!!!!

The tracks were washed with a burnt sienna wash and then dusted with MIG Viet Nam earth pigments. The road wheels received a coat of my stucco mix, mostly around the outside part of the rim where it would normally accumulate. After drying, they were dusted with MIG Viet Nam Earth pigments. The drive wheel tips were dry brushed with Alclad Steel.

After gluing the drive wheel in place, the tracks were then put on and the ideler wheel glued. Finally a light dusting with some more MIG VN Earth to make all the parts flow together.

Some details on the back. You can see the tail lights done with Clear Red and Smoke. The communications wire spool was done with some painters tape to make under bulk. Then it was wrapped with 32 gauge SS wire to cover the painters tape. Then the wire bundle was painted Flat Black

I finished the turret similar to the chassis. The vertical sides was given a dot filter using White, Flesh and Green oil paint dots and stroked to create the stain effect. The top surface was given a coat of MIG Grey for Dark Green filter. Then a solution of MIG VN Earth pigment and Mineral Sprits was used for pin washing. Nest a #2 pencil was used in some high spots to create ware. Lastly some dry dusting of MIG VN Earth was used to create highlights.

I have mounted a few tools, the tripod for the M2 and the M2 itself. The last few little items to complete are some ammo cans and ammo for the M2 and adding some straps on some of the storage, otherwise it is essentially complete.

On to finishing the base for my final and next update

As always thanks for stopping by. Your comments good or bad are always appreciated.

I'm almost finished, I just had a problem with the Bronco track link set, plus my airbrush is being loaned to a friend right now, but I'll be done within the month. Probably.

Hi all,

Good point Castelnouvo -- I've been busy with four other GBs and haven't looked in, but I remember Redlegs' M108 was on the home straight and we had a Panzerhaubitzer 2000 nearly ready for its badge as well... How's it coming, guys?

Cheers, Mike/Tb379

Just thought to bring up this GB from sinking  further down into the great void Smile. Where is everybody? Confused

Of 17 signups, only 3 are finished, mine is about 80%.

Cheers...
