Just to let you and everyone who is reading along know: March 1 as stated on page one is the cutoff date for new participants. Those that are still building at that date will be allowed to finish their models for the GB at their own discretion. I know Vetteman has just started a model and maxfax will be busy for a while to from the look of it. You can't rush art

So theoretically, if you start a model on the last day of this month, my own rule would make me allow you to finish it. I have never been much of a policeman in my own GB's and i dont want to be.

I usually take my indoor photos in a garage with the door open, with and without flash. So basically in sunlight shadow. 95% of my pics are done in this manner and no artificial light involved. I don't know how to adjust any color settings on the camera so I just have to run with what I get and play a bit on the computer photo program occasionally.

As far as PE on the subs goes, aside from the railings,  Revell did such a great job on their Type VIIC that you really don't need it. Even their plastic railings do not look bad at all. Better than what is on my Academy 1/350 Graf Spee. But all that aside, both Hobbyboss and Bronco (and probably AFV Club as well) include PE with their 1/350 U-Boats and the price, while more costly than the Revell U-Boat, is still pretty low including the PE. I did pick up a Revell Type VIID the other day though. Using lessons learned on these two, it should turn out better

 

So i will try i ordered some supplyes ordered some needed color and... as my usual scraped some online store affair .. unimodel t-34/76 , oh-6 cayhuse and a leo-341 ..... all 72 scale and the hobbyboss IXb !!! unfortunately 1/700 scale

i'm not usual with tanks but i liked the quality of these east productions little kits.

About pictures the wy is to try manual settings if need more accurate colors (i try myself but some fails have again )

Something i brought in the past, the tornado ladder from airwaves in early 90

I'm sure posted the same picture in thip gb but here my work, on the right the photo etched ladder for the tornado, on the left the scratched one for the starfighter ! both 1/72 (sorry for the dust )

At the time the PE ladder cost few less than the tornado kit LOL

Recently i found lots of eduard sets at a really low price ,will try something in future

Bsyamato- I'm surprised you haven't delved into the PE sets. I almost routinely bought them, and have a crap load for the VIIc, but honestly, many of the parts are not that useful- sometimes the molded on detail is as good if not better. But you can't beat the PE grills.

BSY, theType VIIA is a Hobbyboss kit and is VERY nice. I think that the surface detail is better on the Revell Germany kit. But the Hobbyboss U-Boat comes with PE for the railing, net cutters, and conning tower deck as well as a few other fine details. They should not be passed up. Both have nicely molded deck guns.

Maxfax, I am mainly using the old discontinued Model Master Acryl Marine Colors. But I only have the Hellgrau 50 and Dunkelgrau II/Bodenfarbe III Grau for use here. I had to use the closest available FS match for the Dunkelgrau 51 in the Acryl line for that particular shade. I do wish that one of the LHS stocked WEM colors as I would buy them in a heartbeat. I just prefer to get my stuff at the LHS and support them rather than buy online whenever possible. Especially for paints. In the Tamiya line, XF-63 German Gray should match the dark gray color just right as that gray has the same RAL code as Panzer Gray. Though I dont know what mixture would work for the Hellgrau 50, perhaps XF-12 JN Gray, as that Hellgrau 50 is quite light. For the Dunkelgrau 51 it looks like XF-19 Sky Gray or XF-20 Medium Gray would possibly work. If you plan on doing some weathering such as salt water fading, rust, and marine growth on the hulls, base color fidelity can have some wiggle room.

We are supposed to get some snow in the local mountains today but not here by the ocean... just rain.

Stickpusher: What paints are you using for your subs? I have bought  Tamiya paints for mine, that I hope will would match closely the true naval colours, would have liked to use the WEM paints. If I took a picture of near my house right now, all you would see would be a never ending vista of snow....

I found lots of hobbyboss subs for less than 5€ for piece, someone knows about the quality of these kits? (having the arizona from same brand i was not so happy about the quality of the kit )

I just can say that the pictures was taken to the 3rd floor (if some kit goes down no repairs are possible) and during last pictures, as the roror is not glued , the wind started blow a little and rotor being to rotate

nope ,as i remember nothing in stock but even i having something i'm too busy to put another kit here .The only way is i found some little sub soon with the next supply order ,but cannot confirm for sure

Here are a few pics. I finished the weld details on the saddle tanks, as well as the ribbing seen through the main drainage slot, and some other items representing the pressure hull on the coning tower etc that would block some light when looking through the drainage slots. I primed the port side saddle tanks- the weld seams come off too easily. Up next- pain the internal components, add the deck and then finish the rudder area.

I can call the Seabat finished for now, will add later some more pictures with the wessex hu5 and... when the buran and blizzard from the east will leave Italy will take some honest outdoor pictures actually two weeks without sun and the only weather avaible are cloud with wind or rain, or both mixed with lightings

BSY, your Sikorsky is looking real good there! Definitely some classic lines on that bird.

I realized that my work here had been sidelined for too long last weekend so I pulled out my two Type VII U-Boats. Everything was there for the VIIA, but I seem to have lost the directions and decals for the VIIC in last summers move. The instructions are no big deal, as I was able to download a new set from Revell Germany, but the decals... I emailed them early in the week about replacements but have not yet heard back from them. So based on the instructions I do have and off the information in this article http://www.artitec.nl/downloads/instructions/uboat/uboat_colours.pdf I began painting of my U-Boats earlier this week. On the VIIA, which I am planning on finishing as U-29, I am going with the early war scheme of Dunkelgrau 51 over Schiffsbodefarbe III Grau. The VIIC will be the U-81 and in a two tone camo scheme of Hellgrau 50/Dunkelgrau 53 over Schiffsbodenfarbe III Grau. In both cases I have airbrushed on only the lighter color using MM Acryls over Humbrol primer. On my days off this week I plan to mask off for the darker hull and deck color.

so... more updates and more wall head hitting this afternoon painted and added other details included the rescue hook. This night returned on the workbench after billiards session i picked the seabat and the hook was not here where i glued it! the only scientific explain is an alien abduction so tomorrow another scratched piece is needed

then pictures with wheels , rescue hook lifter and other details painted

At the end glued also the bottom tubes. Some italian seabat shows more details added on the fuselage but not found clear pictures to perfect complete these pieces, so i leave the copter withouth for the moment.

I hope this weekend to finish the good copter

Looking very much forward to your next update! I soooo want to build another 1/72 one myself now that i know they are in production again... I also read that by the end of the year revell is going to reissue the snowberry again too. Yay!!

Then... i lost the finished blades control disc of main rotor  unexpected scratchbuild needed

tail rotor will also receive metal rods to replace original parts.
