 p38jl:

its just how it looks in the pic.. if your refering to the intake opening..

no, not the intake, the big seam on the fuselage leading up to the cockpit. Did you need to cut it apart to fit the skyhook?

aahh... no.. thats the trough that the sky hook lays in when its detached from the mothership.. , I'm working on cleaning up the seams in the trough,.

Yay for finding your sky-hook, but what did you do to the nose of the plane? I looks a bit cut up.

I'm soooooo sorry that I didn't complete my build Owl. Life and work always seem to get in my way. Plus it didn't help that I decided upon the Revell Tomcat for my second model since coming back into the hobby. That stupid Tomcat still sits on my workbench cause I just don't have the motivation to get back to it. Again sorry bout that.

its alright, I totally understand about life getting in the way. This is my first day off in what seems like a month! I built the revellgram Tomcat a few years ago (I no longer have the model) and remember some butt-ugly gaps on that thing. Its a testament to your skills (and determination!) that you got as far as you did. Smile

I have posted a feeler about a new GB, if anyone is interested (gamera?). The theme would be "forces of nature". Build anything that is named after a weather/natural occurrence (thunder/lighting/hurricane/mirage/etc)

Well, no big surprise I didn't finish.

Got a decent amount of the assembly and some of the painting done. But work, family and blah, blah, blah got in the way.

Here is where I'm at so far:

Anyway, once I do get done I will post the final pics. But I will not be taking a badge.

See ya

Owl: hate to keep bothering you with a GB that hasn't even started yet but I've signed on Vance's Saab GB with an Airfix 1/48 JA-37 Viggen. Viggen translates into English as 'Thunderbolt' so if it's the same to you I'll enter that into the 'Forces of Nature' GB and tell Vance I'm holding off starting until your GB takes off.

that will be no problem. Just make sure to pop back in on the feeler/GB thread to make sure I dont forget ya! :)

Yes, I'd been thinking of cross-posting something here and the Japanese GB if you don't mind.

Crossovers will be accepted, if you can wait a few weeks. :)

Owl: Did you set a opening date for your 'Forces of Nature' GB or did I miss it, is it still on?

no date yet. I was planning on posting a feeler thread after this GB closed. Are you still interested?

Glad you're liking the Sally so far. It's typical Tamiya - excellent fit and sufficient detail with room to add more if one chooses.

p38 - nice lookin' egg! I remember seeing one of those way back when on one of my trips to Dayton's AFM. One of the oddest planes I've ever seen for sure.

Owl - the wiring on the engine is made from various diameters of solder - it's not in the kit, but references abound, so adding it was pretty straight forward. The powder was purchased from a company called Golfsmith - yep, it's actually used to balance golf clubs.

Cliff - after studying the instructions and examining all the available parts, not only will the nacelle be able to be modeled open, but it can actually be interchanged with a closed version, so where the instructions seem to indicate either/or, it's actually both. Neat!

RR: Sally Mander is coming along really nicely there. Great work on the engine, I'm assuming the kit allows the nacelle to be opened to display the engine?

P38: Really cool, the Goblin was (thankfully) one of a kind. I think Owl nailed it- it does look like a real life egg plane.

Looking forward to see this little bugger built. Its such a funny looking little plane. Kinda like an egg-plane, but operational!

I dont think many of these were actually build, but we have one right here at the Strategic Air and Space Museum (Ashland, NE).

OK people, figured it was about time for me to get some progress pics onto this thread. This is where the 162 stands so far. The 'pit is finished, as is the engine, and it's nearly all buttoned up and ready for some paint. The gunsight needs to go on, then I'll mask and attach the canopy pieces before paint begins. The white cylinders behind the 'pit are styrene tubing, capped off and glued in place after being filled with tungsten powder for nose weight. This stuff is great for ballast - it weighs 1.5 times as much as lead per unit volume, so a little goes a long way.

alright! Glad to have some life back in this build. Where do you get this tungsten powder? And did you add the wires to the engine, or was that detail included?
