AFRICAN GROUP BUILD FEELER - OPEN TO ANY AIRCRAFT THAT SERVED IN AFRICA!
Posted by MilitaryAircraft101 on Thursday, August 11, 2011 3:09 AM

Hey, I was wondering, does anyone want to participate in an African GB? Rules are basically any aircraft from an African soverign state or dependent territory, now revised to allow any aircraft that served in AFRICA, this is up to my discresion. I am not sure what the response will be, but there are plenty of cool marking schemes that are weilded by some these planes. Anyway, there's plenty of time to confirm who's doin' what... Ideal would be 20+ entrants, but I've never done this before... I will only run the GB if I have probably 15+ people... So help me get to that target!

Probably should include Rhodesia, which had some interesting examples.  And if I remember correctly, Southern Rhodesia became Zimbabwe.

Correct, they are one of our northern neighbour stated her in South Africa.

Please count me in with something from the South African Air Force and maybe of the Angolan or Mozambique airforce.

Here in Africa the greatest majority of planes are usualy from the eastern block and in the SAAF we used some French ,British and US tipes.

You doing the single or dual seater Hunter???

If you want detail pix just let me know what you need and I can get it for you. I have a client who owns and flies both tipesYes

I think I might go for and Angolan Mig 21, or is a 30% completed Model acceped? If so I have a 1/32 Mig 17 that will be in Mozambique Airforce colours (Mav decals)

Well, I will have to get something else to do aswell then. Can't wait so long to finnish off the Mig 17 LOL!

If there is not enough interest in the idea as it stands, how about broadning it a bit by saying any aircraft used on African soil ie. RAF/Italian/German of WW2 or Israeli /Egiptian war planes.  Just an idea.

I recon this can be a fun GB :-)

Yes, that is what I'd been tossing up, whether it could be something that served in africa: lots of examples there! That includes north africa campaign, israeli aircraft over egypt, suez aircraft! We'd have a lot more entrants: YOUR A GENIUS!

Depending on when, count me in with a WWII North African something. A-36 perhaps. Or a Spit V. Or maybe I'll go all crazy and do Trumpeter's big Dauntless  in Operation Torch markings.

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

I'd like to put my hand up for this, not sure what yet, maybe a Rhodesian Hunter or Biafran A-26 or one of  the many versions of Migs that served with a myriad of countries. Help, this could just get confusing.Confused

Just want to keep this one on my radar... I hate to think I'm planning ahead to 2012-13 already though!!! I've got a Saab J29 that could be marked as serving w/ the UN in the Congo that would fit the bill. I guess at this point I'm interested, but can't commit 100%.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

Cheers

We could go November 8th 2011 (70th Anniversary Start  of Op Torch) - November 5th 2012 (70th Anniversary of end of Second Battle of El Alamein)

If we went September - 5th Sept 2011 - 5th Sept 2012 (70th Anniversary of end of Battle of Alam Halfa)

Whatever you want, but there wasn't much activity in North Africa - October 1941-42...

May I enter this solong? I started this Trump 1/32 Mig 17 some time ago but didn't get to far.I completed the cockpit and joined the front halves of the fuselarge.

It will be done in the colours of the Mozambuque AF aircraft that was used by Lt. Adreano Bomba to defect to South Africa in the 80's.

1/32 MiG-17 Mozambique AF

Trumpeter 1/32 MiG-17 Mozambique AF

Mozambique Mig-17 and SAAF F-1cz

I will also add some other project like maybe an Angolan MiG 21 or Mil 8 Hip.

Like someone mentioned go look at Mav Decals.co.za for some African decals.I have used them on a few projects and they are good.
