Thanks Phil, I do like the idea of a Foreign Hands GB. I also like the idea of a 1/32 GB as well. Are there enough folks out there to make it a 1/32 only?

Cheers

nope.. i'm out with 1/32, i have only 1/72 kits Whistling

It wouldn't be until the New Year. I'm sure the folks would be fine with that. I've got my Martlet and I was thinking of doing my Spit Mk.VIII in the US markings.

I'll have a think and probably put up the GB page in Late October sometime.

Cheers

It may be a crossover, but I'd be down for a 1/32 GB.

Thank F**K for that, i was dreading a nightfighter GB as it would be a nightmare to stay out of.

A couple of good ideas there. theres quite a few guys building 32 at the moment, and the Foreign hands is a good idea as well. But still might be worth waiting until a couple of GB's have ended, and sme on the ones starting now have got gong, that way gives guys a chance to clear the bench.

Ah bsyamato, you are my own reply to this thread so far. I'll hang on for another week but it looks like this idea has not sparked much interest.

Cheers

just see the feeler yesterday , imho some more specific for the gb is better, out of the ki-27 i have lots of propelled started aircraft that sleeping in the box from years (stuka , fw190, mc-205, tbf-1, do-335 two seats, ms-406, and probably some other forget) keep informed about the gb

Casper,,  Like a few others who have responded, I am currently GB booked pretty solid. However, depending on your timeline and what you narrow the subject down to, I would be interested.       I've been meaning to get onto a winged beast following my ground subjects being worked on.

I'll tune in again to see where you are............

Good luck with it in any event

Bill

Enjoy the ride!

Casper the Chihuahua
Revell 1/32 Grumman Martlet.

You see, this already says something. You're talking about a Grumman Wildcat operated by the Royal Navy.

You could approach this as something like "In Foreign Hands" - potential candidates include P-39 in Russian colours, Douglas Boston in RAF/RAAF/Russian/ French(?) colours, Me109 in Romanian colours and many more - how does that theme grab you?

EDIT: PS. This is only a suggestion for an idea. Once you start thinking about it you may well think of something better or more to your liking... Wink

Ok, going to be kicking myself here. Is it the 110 your thinking of.

No, I picked up a Revell 1/32 Grumman Martlet. Perhaps a 1/32 single prop build?

Cheers

Yep, fair enough, all comments considered. I'll have a think about what to do. I've got the bird but will have to research a bit to see where and what she did and build something around it.

As above, perhaps a tighter set of criteria would engage more interest. Even if you do't restrict it to a specific type, a tighter group eg. "twin prop fighter" or "twin prop bomber" may draw more interest than a general topic. As it stands, an "anything goes" appropach holds little specific interest.

Casper, i would love to join but i am just up to my neck in GB's and catching up with finishing Dio's for the next year or so. So i am not committing my self to anything new just now. But i think the timing for this isn't good in general. There's already the Too Many Props GB, similar idea to yours as most of those builds will be WW2. What with that and the other GB's, i think the people who might be interested are already committed. Also, you might want to consider a slightly narrower subject. The more specific the GB, the more popular they seem to be IMHO. So many try a certain aircraft type, or a certain battle. Something along those lines might get more response. But i would wait a couple of months as there are a few GB's getting under way right now.

I'm actually fairly light on GB commitments right now, but it's my ability to build that's being pinched. Moving in about 6 weeks or so, so the bench'll be mostly down until probably Thanksgiving. I'm thinking I MIGHT try to sneak the Academy P-47N through...if that's the only thing I'm building I bet I can know it out in three weeks. After that, I'll be building up armor kits to the paint stage, since I can do construction with far fewer tools.

As far as subject, I kinda agree with Bish. One thing I think my weathering GB ran into is that the subjects were just so different. The NMF build I think is the exception on the technique-based side, since it 99% applies to aircraft of a certain vintage.

But in general, the ones that seem to catch on the best seem to be:

1 - A specific vehicle type (Spitfire, Panzer III and variants, etc)

2 - A specific theater of operations (Ostfront...)

3 - A specific (but large) unit. Bish's own 8th AAF is a perfect example.

I'm angling to start a P-47 GB at the beginning of the year, but I'd definitely be interested in something else, too. I think 15th Air Force would be fascinating. Or CBI theater. Or on the armor side, a Volute Suspension GB (VVSS and HVSS vehicles...so mostly Sherman and friends).

WWII Props GB feeler
Posted by Casper the Chihuahua on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 3:24 AM

Hi all,

I'm thinking about a GB for WWII prop planes. Anything in service, bomber, fighter, recon, anything with a propeller that saw service between 1939-45. I was also thinking of splitting entries into Allied/Axis and tally up at the end of the build and see which side won the war through sheer numbers.

Sound ok? When I get replies or interest I'll set up the GB post.

Also ideas for a badge are most welcome.

Cheers
