Good subject Randy. Looks like we have a few builds going on at the same time, which is ideal.

I'm buying paint for my 109 today. I don't like the color call outs from Italeri, so will use more 'traditional Luftwaffe colours, Lichtblau, Braunviolet and Lichtgrun. As far as progress goes, I've done some cockpit assembly and joined the upper and lower wings, but no paint as yet.

Cheers

Tony

Hey Richard!  Thanks for letting the GB run a bit longer!  I really want to finish up the GAZ and Gun!

Tony, vetteman, Julez, looking forward to your AC builds!

So not much of an update today.  Still catching up on sleep from that bout of insomnia, but I did manage a couple of hours at the bench today.

I decided to try some new AK Interactive Pigments that I've had for a few months.  I wasn't sure how these would look so I decided to test them on some spare tires from an old Sd.Kfz.251 halftrack.  I quickly painted them up, not worrying if they were perfect:

I tried the pigments a couple of times, using Mona Lisa paint thinner as the binder/medium for the wash.  Info is on the combined photo below:

I liked the triple combo of AK Light & Dark Earth, topped by MIG Euro Dust.  The tire on the right was just a quick test to see how the colors looked.  I think I can do a better job with the overall weathering by layering on at least one more pigment, but more likely two.  I might also try water as the wash agent.  This will probably make it easier to remove all the layers of pigments.  We'll see!!

I like it too Bufflehead. Keep posting these pics please. I'd like to try it on a Panther that I originally tried to finish for Ostfront I. Oops.

Did some mention a race ? Here are some progress pics of my 109G-6. No one could ever accuse this kit of being a good fit, but it's only little so it stil won't take long.

The cockpit is out of box, plus  some Extratech harnesses. Very quick job on the highlighting and shading of it, experience tells me what you can't see inside a closed 1/72 109 cockpit.

Cheers

Tony

Julez as slow as I have been building of late I think I would be putting my money on you to finish first Big Smile

Bufflehead nice work on those wheels ! Gives me an idea for my sprint car, thanks for sharing the method.

Taxtp your pit is lookin good ! Lookin forward to seeing it come together for sure. Eats

Ok my build will be a simple OOB affair. I've got the pit in, the fuse closed up and, the wings together. I think I will fit the canopy before attaching the wing on this one as the canopy is a lousy fit especially closed, I have a feeling things will go easier this way.  Just have to clean up the seams first.

We aint gonna let that little green feller close this group are we Devil

Nice start on the Stuka Vetteman.

Here is a bit more progress on the 109. You can see the white strip styrene used to fill some gaps, and some other gaps that are as yet unfilled. It is progressing quite quickly nonetheless.

Taxtp your 109 is coming along quickly and looking good too.Yes Got to admit the Stuka and 109 are my favorite German aircraft.

Got just a, well it looks like just a bit anyway, of progress on the Stuka. I want to build this one with a closed canopy, I know I know the canopy is made to be built opened up and even then it doesn't fit well on this kit. Well, yes I am a glutton for punishment I guess, spent a number of hours sanding and fitting and sanding some more. Now I have just a bit of clean up work to do at the rear of the canopy and will be ready for wings.

Ok got a bit more progress made, wings are on the the canopy has been masked and the inside frame color has been sprayed. I gotta tell ya masking this canopy was MUCH easier done before the wings were attached.

Then I got the white primer on this morning, I used Krylon for plastics that I decanted so I could use the airbrush. This stuff seems to bite into the plastic really well for masking and in using the air brush I didnt lose surface detail. I have used this stuff in the rattle can and hated it. But I am happy with how it worked this time.

Next will come the underside blue, then the fun on the topside will commence Stick out tongue

Ok so I just finished posting progress pics on my Stuka. Well as I was posting said pictures and comentary it seems a test pilot decided it was time to take it for a test flight.

Test Pilot, Lt Bonehead

It seems she is a bonehead in the true sence of the word, as she over reved the engine and blew it sky high creating an urgent need to make an emergancy landing, which she botched of course. Here are pictures of the *** after recovery and return to the hanger.

I am going to go to Michaels surplus this week and see if I can get another, I think I have another coupon somewhere. I really want to do one in winter camo looks so cool.

Ouch. Only upside of not having an actual workbench, all my stuff is on shelves way out of reach. Except my test pilots have two legs, not four.

Nice looking dog. Animals always seem to eat things from the head (nose) first. Or was that landing damage ?

Back onto the 109G now. The main construction is done, and last night I refined the messy wing-fuselage joint. Tonight will be the canopy, smaller bits, give it a bath and then mask the canopy.

Good luck with the GAZ Ernest. I know I can't get mine done by the 31st, we're already at 2pm. At least I got the yellow fuselage strip masked and sprayed last night.

I've pushed this to the front of the queue, hopefully only a week or so to complete it.

OK, here are some more progress shots of the Italeri 1/72 Bf 109G-6..

First, marked up ready for camo.

I was keen to try the Iwata airbrush I got for Christmas, so I decided to test it out and freehand the camo scheme. Not too bad, have to be very careful to keep it tight in 1/72 though. The only masking used was the canopy framing (thanks Eduard) and the yellow fuselage band.

Hopefully progressing to gloss and decalling shortly.

Cheers

Thanks guys. I'm already delighted with my Iwata. Soooo easy to spray fine lines. I've given it the panel line wash, a coat of future and the decals. The kit decals go down pretty well, only one showed some silvering. I do think they are a little over size though. You'll note that there is some whitening of the future around some decals. As usual, a subsequent coat of Future has eliminated that effect, but I haven't photographed that yet.

Thanks Greg. I got the detail bits onto it last night, so tonight should be a flat coat then final finishing touches. Apologies for the terrible photography, was in a hurry before work this morning.

Thanks Ernest, I even did an albino dinosaur once ! I think the only things I haven't had a crack at is a motorcycle, and a resin 1/43 car.

Maybe this year I will.
