With 2012 coming up fast and the 70th anniversary of WW2 upon us with Pearl Harbor day, what do you guys think about a "1942" group build. Anything in markings that were worn in that year. Here are just a few examples of major events that year:

Phillipine invasion
Doolittle Raid
Coral Sea
Midway
El Alamein
Guadalcanal
Stalingrad

And many more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1942

Anybody interested?

Posting to keep this on my radar as a possible. I've already made a New Year's resolution though - no new GBs until I am actually ready to sit down & open the box. (I'm on the verge of being overwhelmed!!) Interested though, will be lurking if nothing else.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

Cross overs are cool, I know there is the Japanese GB and War in the Pacific GB at the moment.

I figure to run it from Jan 1, 2012 to Dec 31 so we get the full year.

BTW Doogs, love the screenshot, what is that from?

So is that three yes's and a maybe? If we can get a couple more I will start the official thread.

I'd like to see this GB become reality, so I'll commit to it.

Been researching a subject off and on that would fit quite well in a 1942 setting.

SR, I am interested. I will do something-I have a bunch of kits that qualify. And I will still float the "Summer of 42" idea as that time approaches. Of course crossovers will be allowed Wink

I'm sure I've got tons of others that will fit the bill, but I'm already planning three '42 builds for next year:

  • Trumpy 1/32 SBD Dauntless in Yellow Wings' Operation Torch markings
  • Trumpy 1/350 BB-55 USS North Carolina
  • Bronco 1/35 Bishop 25-pdr

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

Got no takers on my Cactus Airforce GB idea so I can slide in a couple of builds I planned on anyway.
Accurate Miniatures SBD 3 Dauntless
Accurate Miniatures P-400

This would be a perfect reason to build my Accurate Minuatures Doolittle Raiders B-25, but I would never be able to finish with everything in porgress.

For the Canucks, might I add the Dieppe Raid.

The raid was a failure, but the lessons learned help make D-Day a success

gunner- Thank you for that. I did not mean to leave anyone out, I just listed major events that I recognized. I am by no means a WW2 expert, and now you have given me something to look up!

old fart- Thanks for you interest, I really look forward to seeing your raider! I will add you to the roster on the "official" page.

i have 3 option

two from the italeri stuka, a b2 from stg2 in lybia during januriy 1942, but don't like the paint scheme, whith a long serpent along the fuselage,

or an r2 from "stg3" based on crete in may 1941 in standard split camo ,i presume in 1942 again there ,need some expert advice, i prefere this second option.

other plane is the italeri he-111 h-6 with 3 option all from 1942

i looking to choose the kg-26 one based in north sea

are these options matching the gb?

Wow, so much to choose from.  Put me down for Trumpeter's KV-1 '42 heavy cast turret kit.  I'm finishing up a couple other group builds right now so may not get started for a few weeks but am definitely interested.

Sub, count me in too.  i'll build an ICM F-2 in for this and the Bf-109 GB.  It will be Heinz Bar's JG 77 bird on early 1942 in Russia.
