Please accept my sincere apologies for the late response and dropping the ball on this GB. Clearly I've issues with putting too many irons in the fire and did'nt mean to slight any of the great contributions on this GB. Cheers Trey

Sorry Trey, I'm going to have to let this one slide. I've worked hard to get through 24 models this year, and catch up on my GB backlog, and this is the one I haven't been able to get going on. Since  it's due to expire in a few hours, it's better that I don't start it, and my aftermarket hasn't arrived yet anyway.

If you would prefer that I built it, then I will, should take about a month.

Thanks a lot guys. Tony, it is a very nice kit, if a tad pricey. I think I only used a little filler underneath, where the cover goes over what would be the bomb bay on a bomber version. But I would certainly like to get the Z-2 kit and maybe even do a Z-3.

Theun's, thanks. I like to have variety in my aircraft dio's, especially with ones I have multiple versions of. This is only my second engine maintainer scene following on from my Ju 87 early this year, but I am rather liking them. I do have a number of others planned.

SS, thanks buddy, much appreciated. Getting the scene right is half the battle with these things.

That looks like a terrific piece of work Bish, congratulations on it.  I love the whole base and arrangement too. I've hesitated over that kit a number of time, really glad to see such a good job on it.

Trey, I'm vacillating between hacking into my Sea Vixen, or making a start on an Airfix Vampire FB5. At the moment I am still staying on the Sea Vixen, but I belatedly ordered a cockpit set and decals for it, and it's taking some time to get over the Pacific to me. I need to get some real progress done soon, or I won't get it done. I'll leave it until Wednesday, if no package by then I think I'll have to change it.

I have good news. Its all done. Not much more to add on the kit from tge last up date, I just added the last few small bits. As for the rest, the work benches were scratch built from balsa. The Opel Blitz is an old Esci kit and the Kubel an Academy kit. The figures are a mix, including at least one USAAF and RAF figures, and nearly all have been altered in some way.

So here's the finished pics.

Now the real challenge, where to put the damn thing.

Theuns, that's a real beauty. Lovely looking build and a great scheme, been fun watching.

Mine is so close to finish, but it has got really frustrating. The aircraft is on the base and I have started adding some of the other items. But I am having a real nightmare finding decent figures. I am going to have to alter everyone to get a decent pose, but its finding ones that are in some way suitable. I am even going to check my USAAF and RAF figures to see if any of those will work.

It is out the box, humbrol enemels and satin future clearcoat.

Decals went down very nice and are good in fine detail.. I highly recomend this kit.

I got the decals on the Vamp , they were actually nice and thin and in good register but I am pushing to get it done by next weekend as we are moving house and "play time" will be over for a while :-(

Well, finally got back on the site and time for another update. The undercarriage and outer engines are on and most of the weathering is done. I did have some drama's with a couple of the decals after adding the flat coat. The right upper wing and one of the fuselage crosses both silvered a lot, so I painted over the centre of the crosses. One recommendation I would make is to try and use AM decals especially for the crosses, swastika's and probably the tail code. The decals are rather thick.

This is probably the last update before its done. I only have a few bits to add, such as the window's, upper gun position and so on, and a bit of work to do on the main undercarriage. But I still have a lot to do on the base, ground equipment and other bits for the dio.

I used humbrol 209 dayglow orange.

It is a hard colour to spray, it is VERY translucent and takes a few coats, I was impatient and did not want to wait long between coats so it covered poorly.

You do need either white or yellow base for it to go over.

I have tried brushing the stuff, but for me like silver it just can not be done well.

Nice looking Vamp Theuns. What did you use for the International Orange ? I've never sprayed it, but I've heard it is a very tough colour to get coverage with.

Bish  - That Zwilling looks fantastic. I've always admired that aircraft. One day when I haven't got so many GBs (ha ha when will that be) I'm gonna gave a go myself. I do like that splinter camo too, it must have been a fair job of masking on that thing.

Basic painting completed. It was an interesting masking exersize.

After a light sanding I will do the decals. The orrange took allot of paint to cover and lead to loosing some of the pannel detail, but I am still OK with the build sofar.

Interesting how the adition of the silver makes the orrange look darker.

Nice finish! That's one unusual color for sure...

Now this is what I gall "hurt your eyes" bright!

As soon as it cured I will mask off the daygolw as on the instructions and shoot the silver. This orange does take very long to cure though.

I manage to spray some gloss white as a base for the dayglow on the Vamp, only to have the airbrush "fail me" putting some "splatters" in the paint! As soon as it is cured I will sand them with micro mesh and do the dayglow.

Thanks, I am using xtracolor enamels, my usual paint of choice, RLM 65, 70 and 71.

Time for a short update. Finally got the decals finished, which like everything else took longer than expected.

And I got the two resin engines finished. 

I have just started the weathering tonight using some Flory  wash on the underside, so its getting close. 

The Vamp has the canopy on, primed ans sanded with some minor re-scribing completed. I am happy with the joints.

Next will be a basecoat of gloss while for the dayglow, mask that off ans dhen silver. I have found in the past the silver doesn't like masking much.

Thanks, I am really pleased how it came out. The decaling is taking longer than expected, but I am taking my time, there's a lot of stencilling.
