Second Annual Berny Memorial Group Build
Posted by Son Of Medicine Man on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 7:14 PM
Greetings fellow modelers,

Welcome to the Second Annual Berny Memorial Group Build.  As a few of you know, Berny, aka Berny13, passed away a little over a year ago. He was an avid modeler and a good friend.

The First Annual Berny Memorial Group Build was very successful. When putting that build together, we tried to find out what planes he was associated with while he was in the United States Air Force and use that list as a theme. But as we started going through all of his posts, we realized that he had modeled almost every subject possible.

He started out with cars. At one point he modeled armor. And when he did model planes, he even modeled Migs, so it seemed that nothing was off limits. I also know that he had an attitude that you should at the very least enjoy building your model. So we finally decided that there would be no particular theme to this build except one. HAVE FUN!

This is not an exclusive club for people who knew Berny.  Anyone can join this build!

So the rules to this build will be very short and simple. YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE! It is funny, I have only participated in a few group builds, but I did notice something that bothered me. There were a number of people who it seemed rather obvious were only there to collect the stupid badge or show off their already completed project. A group build in my opinion is supposed to bring people together and share ideas, help each other with problems, answer questions, and even proudly show your daily or weekly accomplishments with.

We are going to start the build on Berny’s birthday, which is February 22. Anything and everything that you can build is acceptable (within the restrictions of this site of course!). It can be something you are building on another group build. You can build as many models as you like. Beginners and experts alike are welcome. This build will last one year, ending on February 21, 2014.  Everyone can start signing up now and I will add you to the roster.  Please include the kit (manufacturer, scale, etc.) that you are planning on building.

All finished builds will be entered on the first page of the build. This is not a contest of speed. It is a contest of fun.
Here is the badge, feel free to pick one up if you are particpating, you do not have to wait until you have completed your build.

I'm in, but have yet to decide between the F-105, RF-4B, (both partially built) or the F-15E Strike Eagle. Maybe a combo of a couple of them.....

*******

On my workbench now:

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

Lol Dom, I'm right there with ya' buddy.

I dunno, maybe I'll drag out my 1/48th Strike Eagle or I've got a bunch of F-16 Vipers too. I think you guys said Berny liked aircraft even if they were more recent than the Phantom? I remember ya'll posted a list of planes Berny had worked on but I don't remember which aircraft were on the list.

I haven't built a good modern aircraft in sometime, just this ancient Airfix Viggen and Revell MiG-25 which weren't any great shakes even when they came out. I've got too much stuff backed up now though, and really need to finish something first though.

Hi,

I'd like to join please. I feel that I should do something along the USAF line. I have an Academy 1/72 A-37 Dragonfly committed for the Vietnam GB, so I'd like to share it here also.

Ken - I share your thoughts on what a GB should be.I admit that too often I find myself building alone close to or after the deadline. For me it's about meeting the commitment I gave to the GB organiser. This time I'll try to build it in peak hour as it is much better then, as you rightly say.

Looking forward to it, bring it on.

Cheers'

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Bockscar
Hey Pyrman,

........it is not so much up to us to decide, you have to ask yourself "Would Berny build this kit?" and that's the criteria.

-Dom

Well....since I've never met Berny, I really can't speak for him to say whether he'd build it or not.  Guess I'll take my build elsewhere.

Hi Greg,

You are totally invited to this build.  Berny would be just fine with what ever you built!  I do not want there to be anybody saying anything about who can or cannot build anything here!  This is open to everybody in the spirit that Berny would have wanted it to be.  No selfishness, no hatefulnes, no finger pointing!!!!

PERIOD!!!!!!!

You are a good man Pyrman;

Thank you for making a healthy decision.

We all have the right to express ourselves on this fabulous website.

Berny just was not into 'pink',

and it would have been a social insult to him if anyone

had posted a 'slap-in'his-face.'

I know you were not intending any insult, and I see you made the right choice.

But,

I met him, and I understood him,

and, I respected him because of that.

Thank you for moving on for now.

If you ever want to build a US Air Force

theme, just let us know, you will be most welcome.

Best regards,

Dominic

Dom,

You owe Greg an apology.  I have invited everyone to this build and also stated that they can build anything they want.

Hi Everyone,

I have created a new badge for this group build.  I hope you like it.  I am not claiming to be an artist and also not very proficient with PhotoShop but I struggled through it.

Add me to the mix.  I still have stuff to finish from last year.  Maybe I'll get it done!

Ken: I wanted to do something USAAF/USAF because of Berny being an Air Force guy but I keep staring at an Eduard F6F3 Hellcat that would look great next to my Japanese aircraft. How does that sound Ken?

I think that sounds great Cliff!  Build what you will enjoy building!  That is what Berny would want.  What scale is that?
