Dom,

Fuse plugs were borrowed from another AMT kit I got from ebay about ten years ago. It wasnt a complete kit

Initial attachment is done with ordinary testors liquid glue in the little black squeezy bottle.  After the initial set, it will be  reinforcded with good ole Devcon 5 ton epoxy. It AINT coming back apart....Maybe I shouldnt mention my "Eliminated" B-52D. Im tellin ya Kasner, its just like the boneyard around here....

NFN

Allen

Heck Allen, I was going to suggest sheet metal and rivets!....only kiddingBig Smile

I would really be interested in seeing how you do the epoxy when you get around to it, that's

a great idea. Please post pics for us.

Hey, it's nice to see a boneyard putting Buffs back together, instead of just slicing and dicing them.

Dom,

Joints are initially fastened with testors glue, along with 2 1 inchpeices of sprue at the top and bottom of each joint then left set for 24 hours, Then I drill a couple holes right at the joints and pour in a little epoxy. The holes allow you to "See" where the epoxy is going.. One word of caution, Epoxy is exothermic, meaning it generates heat while curing. I do a little at a time so as not to melt it down on the bench. Russ will have pics to post for me shortly.

Guys, was the bomb bay lengthened aft ward, or was the extra space used for other purposes?

Dom,

You realize that since this is a CIA aircraft, that info cannot be relayed. Top secret stuff. I will need to see some clearance passes first... Also, I need to reiterate, this is not an actual plane  used by the CIA, it is however my conception of what "might" have been. im gonna dig through the spares box and see what kind of lumps and bumps I can add for sensors and other such items. (ive heard that this aircraft is also capable of carrying a couple of D-21 drones if need be.....

Again, Thank you to Russ for his patience and understanding of my inability to post pics. I will get it figured out eventually, but theres just too much going on here right now and im not computer savvy.

Not a problem, Allen. Sorry my space is limited at Photobucket. I understand your confusion, believe me. It confused me too. They really ought to have a thread just for practicing posting and asking questions.

Cheers,

LOL!

Yeah, asking the wrong questions at the wrong checkpoint could land a guy in hot water all right!

Here's another question I,,,,errrr,,,,never asked: Does this mean you have an even more secret version of the Buff, covertly hidden away, but it is compressed in length by the combined length of those two plugs? i.e. the deadly MINI-BUFF?.....just that I might have heard rumors.......errrr    no,,,,actually never done heard no rumors or no nuthin'......come to think of.....errrr forget of it.

Remember, I never asked that question......never heard nuthin'......Whistling

I think that's a B-59, but, err,,,,I know nothing.....

Dom,

That short BUFF maybe it would be supersonic if I installed a couple of spare engines from an SR-71?? This is all hypothetical of course.(secretly storing this idea in the back of my twisted little mind...)Whistling

I got the CIA BUFF all stitched back together last nite and shes sittin in the corner lettin the 17 pounds of bondo dry for a coupledays.... Gonna whip out a tube of "Bear" grease and wok on the Tu-95 for a bit.

That's it Allen;

I was thinking about it, but either you read my mind, or twisted minds think alike.

I don't know how much time you want to sink into it, but it

would be great to modify the wings depending on what mach she is specked for.

Maybe clipped a bit shorter, and swept back a few more degrees, and some huge

engines. Kinda like a super-sized B-58.

Lot's of decent aircraft flew between 800-1,000 mph.

If you have some time on the scale of a small chunk of forever,

you could spec a higher mach and integrate the engines into the wings like a B-59.

Gosh, there I go, spilling classified secrets again........GeekedZip it!

Uhhh....I've just been notified I lost my clearance to Langley and the Pentagon.....dang

Dom,

Just so we dont take up unnecessary space on th GB you guys can email me directly at  rkline  AT roadrunner   DOT COM. I like where the short range buff idea is going. Will definitely want to persue it after I get some stuff caught up. Right now I have a 1/32 YF-22, a 1/48 SR-71, both for my bro, and I have the GB, the Tu-95, and 5 B-52s in various stages......  Talk to me Dom, I want to toss ideas back and forth over our "secret"

Hey Allen thanks for the consideration there, much appreciated, but if your discussion is about a scratch XB-52 variant of the imaginary supersonic kind, no worries, that's what this GB space is for. Again, no rush at all, it'll be nice to see when you get around to it.

Mind you, if you do need to discuss secret design specifications, so the Russkies can't just read them off this thread, then of course, I'll PM you for sureZip it!....lol I know it's always fun to surprise the thread with something different and cool. Yeah, I like the direction the Mach-Buff is going......darn....did it again......Smile

Yeah, that happened to a few of us alright, even with 'splanations, it takes a while to figure the

persnickity stuff out..

As to more mundane tasks, i found some of those 1/72 MK 82's

and pulled the trigger on a fat Buff Belly Fulla' Iron, so no tiddley winks

or skittles for me for a while. Heck, I figure by the time i finish finishing those

bombs, Russ will have built the whole dang airbase!Big Smile

Russ will be supplying an update for the clips, and loading ammo into clips

has been a life-long motivator for me.

I started re-organizing my lapsed Buff and now I've finished re-shaping the engine nacelles.

I have cut styrene stock for the clips, we'll see, and I pulled a box full of the old sprues

out of the stacks.

Gaaa....daaaang,,,,,may get this bird ready for a flock of Crows b'for I have to deal with the

big check-out counter....lol

So here are all those crater-eggs i am loading into the clips:

That set me back 14 Big Macs, Mac,.....lol

I need a way to glue them without CA, so suggestions welcome.Smile

Hi, All,

Here's an update to the question Dom posed about the position of the bomb bay doors over on my Arc Light diorama thread. Since I've never built a B-52 model in bombing mode, I didn't really think about the position of the lower doors during bomb drop.

You often see the doors hanging straight down when the aircraft is on the ground. Sometimes the door extenders are disconnected and the doors turn slightly inward. However, when dropping bombs or any other weapon, the door extenders actually push the doors outwards a bit to ensure clearance. It's a small detail, but if you show the bomber with the lower doors in the drop position, they should have a slightly outward flare, as shown in the image below.

If you already know this, just disregard my rambling... Big Smile.

Cheers,

Russ

Wow, Dom, that's a lot of eggs to build!  You don't realize how many until you see them like this. The worst part is painting that blasted ring around the nose [:D). The naceles look good - are you in the process of painting them?

I'm about finished with the bomb clip update. I hope to have it done by Sunday.

Russ:

Yeah,

Tiny eggs at that!

Nice they do not have any flashings to clean up.

I hope my glue scheme holds them together.

Yes, we owe you credit for the steady application of the yellow stripes.

It'll keep me occupied fer' a wyll!...lol

Russ, again, most of us never worked so up close over so many years as yourself and other

regarded company, so, please ramble on as you see fit, can't make it up, so you might as

well just tell it like it is/was, always interested to know. i didn't know they pulled the doors back a bit like that, can't learn enough for knowledge's sake.

Something's wrong, Dom. You showed 7 boxes in your picture and with 12 usable bombs per box, that should be a total of 84. It looks like they shorted you.

Ahh... wait... those arent Verlindin boxes. Sorry, maybe there aren't as many in the Master's Choice version.

LOL....Russ, I was going mildly insane for a second.

After i finished the pictures, I took down the stack of boxes,

and immediately proceeded to lose one, but didn't realize it.

Then i was wondering if a wandering black-hole ate it, the dog ate it,

the carpet ate it.....Kripes.....just like magic...poof....it was gone.....

I found the dang thing, it had fallen between the computer and the desk......

Shishhh.....

One other thing, after I saw your modifications to the engine mounts,

I had to go back and 'adjust' them, so in order to rebuild the exhausts,

i had to take them all apart, kinda' snakes and ladders on that project....Smile

Dom

By the awy, those are Verlinden, packaged in that box/brand.

I have to tip my hat to you having the patience to construct those little eggs.....lol

Seeing those clips in that video sure is humbling. Talk about artillery.

Also those multiple rows of craters and the expanding shock waves gives an indication

of the path of destruction. Still awesome after all these years;

Never see it coming, and yeah, if you can hear them, it is too late to run.
