Fire/ EMS GB

some details are in order. it's an older kit so the plastic is harder and leaves sanding marks, something i am not used to being as concerned about with warwheels. also lots of mold seam scrapping.

the hoses are deck tan with a brown wash. the red bar at the top of the hose real was added to hide the seam. everything was primed and painted with acrylics. undercarraige is burnt umber sludge, guards red for color. the ladders were primed and "painted" with a walnut coptic alcohol pen.

i agree most fire trucks are in excellent shape so no wear marks. didn't flat coat it so the pastels didn't want to stick. will go back over it with weathering powders which may stick better but still only a light dusting.

i seem to do these in fire season. bad fires this year north and south of denver. last year was the same and i took a mechanical mule and converted it to a firefighter. more details in the ARMOR FORUM under MECHANICAL MULE.

finished. lots of lessons learned for future car and motorcycle and firetruck builds. how many folks have a PRINCIPALITY OF MONACO in their stash.

update. decals mare on wheels and windshield are on and frame for hoses and ladders is on. sunday is weather and add the hoses, ladders, flashing light snd siren. will use a coupon and get a tree section frame to mount it.

my jeep has passed through the "it's crap" stage as it nears completion. will put decals for PRICIPALITY OF MONACO. colors may be a tad off but this is post ww2 so i presume brass would be more prevelent than chrome. think after this i will do the new icm MERCEDES BENZ german ww2 fir truck or the italeri VOLVO ladder/bucket truck.

Currently the ladders are in so tight, that I probably don't need white glue.

you could use a drop of white glue or some blue tack to hild the ladders on but still be able to remove them.

Thanks, Wayne. I have finally found out how to glue the body and cab to the frame. Currently, I have almost everything complete. I have the ladders unglued so I can remove them as I wish, but I am debating about whether or not to glue them as well. I have electrical wire for the hoses on one of the hose reels.

Everything here is looking pretty good. I like the idea Pyrman. Its looking ok so far. Are you working on anything Wayne?

fire truck is looking good mikey. i just ordered the icm ww2 german fire truck from squadron. fire jeep has base coat on body though iyt needs a second coat tonight.

Alright, I've done the EMS vehicle, now for the fire department....how about Chief Boden's buggy from Chicago Fire - I'll use it as a crossover with the Hooray for Hollywood GB

The bottom two are just mockups of what it should sit like when it's finished. I also have the ladders removeable and the knobs on the gauge panel are moveable. I have a few more details to cement in place but then I'm finished.

 I'm going to be quite busy after this because I'll have about 3 more kits in the works, one being a rather large 1/48 C-130..

went to the 2013 fire truck muster and parade this past saturday and took a bunch of pictures for some detail work on jeep amd trucks.

Nice work on the fire jeep wayne. Tell me how the ALF fire truck comes out, I've been wanting to get one for a bit of a while now.

I've almost completed the ALF 1000 pumper, I just have to attach a few more pieces, take some pictures, attach the cockpit to the cab, the cockpit/cab to the frame, and the body to the frame/cockpit/cab assembly. I'll put up some pictures later today.

went to 2013 fire truck muster today. fun stuff. talked to some folks and got some detail pics for all my stuff. also found THE FIREFIGHTER website. on the rare, very rare, occassion my frau mentions my stash i will remind her it is still cheaper than R/C aircraft, model railroading, restoring fire trucks and cars, and east coast civil war reenactment.

i think wood would add some color. may do my walnut alcohol pen treatment to get some grain. the builsd is OOB though i did add an additional piece to fill in the front of the water tank behind the seats. from the website there are so many variants almost anything reasonable goes. given how much red (color, not commie in this case) stuff i have in the queue i may go with a yellow green base color. that means making decals or signs. all the kit decals and license plates are european.

Wayne: I would go with wood if you're doing anything earlier than the late 60s.  Is your Jeep going to be strictly a OOB build or will you be making some changes?

fires here are bad. 400 homes in black forest just north of colorado springs and every tourist building and the tram destroyed at royal gorge. and it's still june.

getting some good pics of dome of the fire bombers and helos at the tanker base. the big DC-10 (12000 gal) will stay in CO for the next 150 days.

trumpeter Zla france american pumper came today and my 2 squadron books are en route. and THE FIREFIGHTER looks like a research/history/build project. have a book from the library recommended by greg

BTW greg since you offered, my fire jeep coul;d date back to the 60s. would the ladders be wood or metal or either? what is a good color got the hoses and connectors and nozzles?

got most of this primed. i've done a bunch of warwheels but only 2 other truck/jeeps so haven't quite figured out the paint the chassis and body separately or glue them together first. oh well if that is the deepest question i have to ponder i am very lucky or very shallow. either way here are the pics.

I have unexpectedly been comisioned to build a RC 1/4 Neuport 11 for someone and this will eat into my "plastic" build time. So I think it will be safer to delete me from the roster for now please, don't want to stragle along and not get to actually build something.

yes it is especaily in the rocky mountains. between lack of water, no humidity, rough terrain, major pine beetle kills, and not enough resources it's scary.

There is no such thing as "fire season," it's ALL YEAR LONG, folks.

just revisited the CJ firejeep site. looks like i can do almost anything i want. if i want to make my own decals i could, and may, paint it that greenish-yellow color on some american fire trucks since i may get tired of red fairly soon.

on the flight path from the tanker base to the close south fire so lots of aircraft.(also fires farther south and up north) they have a DC-10 firebomber working out of peublo CO and i have seen CHINOOKS, BLACKHAWKS, A NEPTUNE, and USAF C-130s so far. i may drive up to tanker base and take some pics. bad fires and it's still june.

finished canadian GRIZZLY (canadian GB) and din't feel like painting so working on parts. somewhat brittle older plastic and sands oddly. everyting will get primed anyway.

lust got THE FIREFIGHTER. looks like a nice build for that era and she was in operation on 9-11 as well as figghting the NORMANDIE fire.

last year this time i built a mechanical mule as a fire fighting vehicle during the time the bad fir3es were happening north and south of us. now i am building fire equipment while bad fires are south and north of us again this year. this is a tad freaky.

looks like a good site and i am in the basic construction stage so timing is great. have a few to finish builds ahead of this. have to look at all my GB end dates plus ipms nationals and prioritize

my frau walked in while i was looking at the fireboat. i mentioned something about it and she said "well i guess you better get it now before it's gone." nice to have that kind of support.

i just dropped him an email. didn't see any boats on the site. i agree evilbay has some outrageous prices. i have the revel german truck and got the italeri volvo bucket truck at > half off at an stash sale. my best friend's sister's boyfriend build him one when it came out. 5 years later it died an honorable death by BB guns.

i will ask when i have questions. i grew up in baltimore and the la france has college park (university of maryland) markings.
