OFFICAL NATURAL METAL FINISH GB V (2013-2014)
Posted by SchattenSpartan on Thursday, May 23, 2013 10:54 AM

Hello and welcome to the NMF group build nr. 5!!!

I'm Clemens and appears that I am the new host of this GB series. The former host Randy (vetteman42) is not able to continue on hosting the GBs, so I jumped in as he asked for someone to continue this series.

I'll try to do my best and not disappoint him, so wish me luck!

This group build will run from June 2nd 2013 untill December 31st 2014, so you have plenty of time to finish your models. You can even build two or even more if you want to Wink

Rules:

As with every GB, there are some rules to go by:

The rules of this one are basically the same ones as in part 4, but I'll post them here for all the guys who didn't participate in one of the earlier rounds:

1) You can use everything you want for achieving the metal finish you are after. Be it paint, foil or anything else...

2) The model you build can be everything, any scale, any subject, as long as it has a metal finish.

3) Your model should be at at least 50% NMF.

4) Aftermarket items or not, It's your decision.

5) Crossovers are no problem at all, as long as they match all the other rules.

6) Already started kits are fine as well, but should not be more than 30% completed.

7) Carry-overs from round 4 are welcome at any time, no matter how far you got with the build (so rule #6 doesn't apply here)

8) WIP pictures are a must!

9) Be nice to each other.

10) This is the most important rule: HAVE FUN!

Badges:

Personal Badges:

Randy made some awesome personal badges for all participants in the last round, consisting of the GB name and a picture of each finished model! I want to kep this alive, as I think that is a really awesome idea!

Theuns:

68GT:

B52Gunner:

Misty:

Everyone from round 4 or earlier is invited to join this one as well. Everyone else is, of course, also welcome!

I wish you much fun in this one!

Stick me down. I am not 100% sure what I build yet, possibly a MiG, but not definite. It will be 72nd scale though.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

On the bench: Airfix 1/72nd Harrier GR.3/Fujimi 1/72nd Ju 87D-3

I could need a co-host as well in case I can't post on the forum for whatever reason...

If anyone wants to do that for me, just say it. It would be really nice of you.

Heck, I might be up for this.  I can't commit just yet but I do have a 1/48 Hasegawa P-51D in the stash.  But I have about 6 models on the bench that I need to finish first (2 are just about done).

I'll definitely be watching and lurking in here until I can commit, though.

I put everyone on the list now. All of you who have joined this via the feeler thread, please confirm your participation in this thread as well! It's a bit confusing otherwise...

I'm also going use Master's P-47 Thunderbolt .50 Browning M2 brass gun barrels

For decals, I'll use the kit decals until it comes to the nose art. i'Ill make that myself

Sounds interesting, Ken! Master makes some nice barrels. I ordered some for my Eduard FW 190 that I have on the bench atm. When using the kit parts, you have to glue the barrels in before joining the wing halves (they go through the wheel bays). Master made them out of 2 parts so you can put them in after glueing the wings together!

Confirming my 1/72 Hasegawa F-105B from the part IV GB.  It will have 108th TFW 141st TFS NJANG markings.

I have some jugs to build later.

On Ed's bench, ???

I used them in my Revell Razorback Jug and I glued the wings together before i decided to get them. I had to pull the wings apart. All I'm getting (and got before) was the barrels

I was at my LHS today (yes, again!) and recieved my Thunderbolt!!!

Here are some pics of it:

The whole bunch of it:

The kit itself (that thing is bloody damn huge!):

Barracuda Wheels (massive improvement over the kit parts):

Master gun barrels:

HGW seatbelts:

Aires gear bays (again a big improvement):

Quickboost engine (much better than Hasegawa's solution):

And now to the Big-Ed stuff:

Cockpit set (with a PE-seat):

Exterior set:

And some masks:

And a pic of the box with everything on top of it:

So as you can see, I have plenty of nice stuff for this build Stick out tongue

In case you wonder what that "303" everywhere is about, that is my customer number at my LHS.

Cheers, Clemens

What Markings are you going for?

I like "Kokomo" a lot myself. That was the first plane model I built. I used the wrong green for it (something similar to the artwork on the sode of the box). I have to get me another one of those and do it right.

I'll be making the nose art of my own. It's not any plane that actually flew in WW2. As for the squadron markings, I haven't decided on that yet

Kokomo looks nice too. Who made your kit? But mine will have the flat black on the upper surfaces, and no checkerbaord.

I used the exactly same kit you will build, completely OOB.

I just ordered a second one yesterday which I'll build with the correct cockpit and cowl color.

Can anyone recommend me some reference material for the P-47? I don't have any shop nearby that carries such books, so need to order them online and can't have a look at them before I do so.

Clemens  - The only research material I ever use is the internet. I usually get some pretty good pictures on Google images.

Mine is 1/48 scale by Tamiya

Hi Clemens,

I didn't get the 1/72 Academy P-51D that I promised for part IV even started on time, so can I roll it into Part V please.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
