Sounds great! I'd love to join in but I've got piles of stuff as usual I need to finish- maybe by next year I'll be in a better position (I can hope at least)!

Hey everyone,
it seems like most would liike start date of 9-14. I'm going to shelve it until the first of the year, Then, we'll see whats happening.
I really like that B-17 Revell box. Trouble is, I like that B-24 box as well. I was drooling on them at a Hobby Lobby in Erie, PA the other day. Hope the next guy to come along didn't mind my drool.

A.K.A. Ken Making Modeling Great Again
Shatten Spartan is right! That kit he shows is from Revell in Germany. It's extremely well manufactured and detailed- full interior and everything. I was wondering about that goofy paint job- now I know. Thanks!
However, I am making mine look like the restored "Liberty Belle", which was the last one produced at the end of the war and never saw combat action. It was turned into a research platform after the war, and sold off to a museum in 1960. A group called the "Liberty Foundation" was formed to purchase and restore for air shows and tours. It took them about 10 years, but they got it certified as airworthy in about 2005. I have a soft part in my heart for this one, as I was fortunate to take a ride on it in 2006.
Sadly, in 2011, a fire broke out in #2 engine. The pilot made a successful emergency landing, and no one was injured, either among the crew or on the ground. Because the plane was in a muddy field, the fire fighting equipment couldn't get to it, and the crew could only stand there and watch it burn up. There's not enough left of it to restore.
Here I am with her, in 2006. Anyhow, the point of this whole dissertation was to highly recommend the Revell-Germany kit to anyone who want a nice building experience.
Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
Thanks to Squadron's recent sale there's a 1/72 Zveda Pe-8 on it's way, perfect fit for this GB. Don't know if I can keep my hands out of it until next September, but a start date after January is probably a good idea (too many remodel projects til then). Will look for your official sign-up page.
Mike
I think that might be a better idea. We seem to be a bit flooded with GB's at the moment and a lot of the GB's seem to be going a bit slow. I am thinking of postponing one of the GB I was planning for next year as well.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Well, since no one has posted since July 19 , and the Still Too Many Props GB.That settles that. Maybe a start date of September 1, 2014?????
I've been looking at getting the Tamiya 1:48 Lancaster lately. I'm a very slow builder and doing it in a year for me is next to impossible, I would be interested in giving it a shot though.
Ken, I'd be interested in a four-engine bomber GB. I still have a number of Fortresses and Liberators in the stash.
Doesn't matter when it starts, but I'd personally like a year-long build, because of other GB commitments I still need to finish--including the Hollywood one. Still working on that Pfalz.
Jester75 Hmm, I would be willing to join up on this one with a 72nd Lancaster if it qualifies.

It's a four engine heavy bomber so it qualifies
Whoa!!! this a popular subject.
Okay, This thread will be -
1) the sign up page
2) the page where comments, ideas & complaints, will be taken under serious (maybe LOL) consideration
3) I will post a GB page at the end of August or begining of September.
4) I will go through all posts and talley up the votes (input from all who are signing up) at later date. So lets hear your ideas
5) all posts (votes) must be in by August 31 2013
Would anyone want to postpone this group build until January 1 2014? because of the Still too many Props GB? I don't want be intrusive.
Eric
Yep, Revell released a B-17 and I only heard good things about it.
One of the guys at my LHS built one of them and it just looks gorgeous. I'd love to take some pics for you, but he sold it already... The Revell kit includes decals for "Little Miss Mischief " btw...
Here's a pic of its box art:
You'd get a few others, the Halifax and Stirling. Also, didn't the HE 177 also have four engines ? What about the Sunderland, I know it's a Flying Boat but it would be a shame to exclude it. It did operate during WW2 and I think a few might have carried a bomb load of some sort.
By coincidence, I've been looking at B-17s lately. What's the best 1/72 kit. Didn't Revell release one recently ?
I'd also had a thought of running an RAF Bomber Command WW2 GB. I'd be happy to defer if necessary, and let this one run it's course.
Cheers
Tony
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
I'm wondering how big the box of that kit is going to be... The B-25 shown in the 2nd pic has a huge box already
I agree with Bish. I completely forgot about the Too Many Props GB (even though I'm in it...) Just make it a WWII Heavy Bomber GB...
Just a thought, but wouldn't a Multi engine GB be exactly the same as the Still to many props GB currently running.
cs.finescale.com/.../151200.aspx
To many like this, especially over lapping, runs the risk of just repeating the same GB over and over.
There was a Heavy Bombers GB back in 2006/7 and a 1/48th B-17 GB a couple of years ago. As Stu says, with the 4 engine bomber idea, you won't get a wide range of kits, but those GB's tend to work better. I am not sure I would count the Condor as a bomber.
I think the timing is good, most of the current aircraft GB's will end by the end of the year. If I might suggest, I would go for either a WW2 Bomber GB or a WW2 Heavy Bomber GB (Basically the same idea but different title)
I'll only get me one of them, but I'll use a little trick!
I'm going to build "Little Miss Mischief". That one is a NMF bird, but It's whole tail got replaced with a OD one!
The kit has the wrong tail turret (it's the chayenne turret, but I neeed the stinger turret...), but the decals are on their way already, so Ima just build it with the wrong turret...
SchattenSpartan I'm in. Ima get myself this beauty (preordered it already): I'll add some Eduard PE (cockpit and nose interior only), Eduard Brassin wheels and some metal MG barrels And here's a pic to show it's size : Cheers, Clemens

Whoa Momma! THAT"S what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!! I shouild get 2! One in OD and the other metal! Of course I'll have to pull both cars out of the garage to store them, but hey!
Yep, make it multi-engined!
What about changing it to "Multi-engined" GB. I think by limiting it to 4-engines, you're just going to see B-17s, 24s, 29s, Lancaster and Condor. If you did multi (2 or more) you open up to a much wider range of aircraft. I'm about to start a B-25 and would be interested in a group build like that.
"Ahh the Luftwaffe. The Washington Generals of the History Channel" -Homer Simpson
I've been watching for a B-17 and haven't seen a GB on them. My thinking is to do a Four Engine Propeller Bombers GB. With all the different heavy bombers in WW2, it would pretty much cover everything.
This GB wouldn't start until October at the soonest. We could run it from October 2013 til July 28 2014. That date in 1935 was the the date of the first flight of the B-17.
I'm sure there were GBs on this before, So, lets do it again. What do you all think?
