Official 2013 Secret Santa GB
Posted by gunner_chris on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 9:53 PM

So here it is, the official GB for the 2013 Secret Santa.

This will be setup similar to previous years.  Much of the below has been borrowed from previous ones.

The premise is based on Secret Santa gift exchanges held in various offices and workplaces.  I will match everyone up amongst all the participants, and we exchange the gifts.

By signing up, you agree to either purchase or select from your stash (unopened) an appropriate kit and mailing it to your GB member.  Take into consideration your time and finances especially as we close to Christmas.  Do not sign up with this will become a financial burden or your time does not permit the selection and mailing of said kit.

This is not just about the receiving of the gift but also the giving.  Its about sharing amongst your fellow modelers and the build that follows.

Deadline to sign up is November 22nd.  I will send you your name by November 24th.

To join, please PM me the following:

  • Full name
  • screen name
  • address as it should appear on the package
  • email address
  • scale and/or era preference (i.e. 1/72 armour, anything 1/35, anything Vietnam era etc)

Please do not specify that it must be the Hobbycraft 1/72 Avro Arrow (as an example), this takes the surprise out of it for both the giver and the receiver.  Also the members making the purchases must be able to locate and purchase the item if they don’t already have something appropriate.  The max costs should be no more then $20-25 but that doesn’t mean you have to spend that much.

Once you have your recipient, select your gift, gift wrap it up.  From the looks of previous years some participants have gone so far to send a small note with a card or picture.  Please ensure that they are mailed by December 15th so they arrive before Christmas, but if you have an international recipient take that into consideration.

Opening can be anytime after December 25th, or at least posting about your opening if you have the patience of my kids.

The GB starts on the 25th and runs until June 25th, 6 months.

You can add any PE, resin, AM parts you desire, as long as you post your works in progress for all including your Santa to see.

Next step, go shopping and shipping.  Remember you can't open it until December 25th.......at least you can't admit you did :)

Anyone have any suggestions for a badge?

Chompin' at the bit to see what's next to hit the bench. A boat? Maybe a rotary wing thinga-ma-jig. Or a tank. Yeah. A tank. No. Wait a sec. How 'bout a rocket ship? Or a cool fighter plane? Hmmm......

Haven't seen Santa out this way yet but it's a very busy time for him and it's been snowing for a week so I'm thinking he's waiting for a tow truck.

Santa made an early stop at my house yesterday!  I don't want to open the package in case any wrapping got torn or something.  But the anticipation is killing me!

Aside from confused, it is slightly comical.

Nevertheless you might as well join in the fun with a previous years carryover.

We had our Christmas today, long story, was supposed to work, then last minute that changed but there was no way I was convincing the kids they had to wait an extra day to open.

End result, I opened a 1:35 Dragon Panther II !!

The build will have to wait until the new year due to travel plans but it looks exciting!

Santa dropped something off late in the afternoon. It's gonna be the first one I tear open in the morning!

Special thanks to GreySnake for hitting the nail on the head with the Eduard BF-109E-1!  This kit has been a favorite of mine and was quite a surprise to unwrap this morning.  Thank you so much!  Can't wait to get started on it!

Stu, I'm really glad that you like the 109!

I was really surprised to open this guy today!

Thanks to the Santa from Vermont! You picked out my favorite aircraft and favorite version of the FW-190! Can't wait to get started, the only hard part is figuring out what markings to put on it.

First off, a big THANK YOU to my Secret Santa for the late Tiger I - I've never done a late Tiger. YesYes

And I started the Tiger this evening....

Now I'm off to putty a few seams and work on the upper hull roof.
