Hey gang!

I hope all of you had a good Christmas!

Mine went well, for the most part. I traveled out on the plains to spend the day with my friend and his family, though I couldn't stay but a few hours as a major winter storm was headed into Colorado! I didn't get started back early enough and got caught in it anyway! Even with my trusted 4 wheel drive Ford, and a decent set of tires under me, it was some serious white-knuckle driving back to Denver! There were more than a few cars that had slid off the road, and even a nasty looking roll-over!

I did run around Friday and did a little after Christmas shopping, picking this up at the LHS:

Seems to have favorable reviews and includes Cartagraph decals. Looks decently molded to me. No detail sets yet for it, but I would assume that maybe Eduard has something in the works.

I have managed a bit of work here and there on the projects: assembly of the wings and fuselage of the Flanker, and pre-painting of the intake trunks:

Plus the wing of the F-8 is painted, with some further assembly of the landing gear bays below:

The A-10 is actually all painted up and ready for clear-coat. Then I can start decaling it. Sorry, no photo for now....

Great Christmas present!  I am glad you made it home through the storm okay.  And great work once again!  You can really pump it out!     

We have been lucky here so far.  No appreciable amount of snow yet.  But it is getting very cold.  It is now 17 degrees outside.  Tuesday night it is supposed to get down to 10 degrees!

I appreciate the sentiment about family, but after this ordeal, I don't see a future a relationship with my sister, sad to say. She somehow holds me responsible for all the misfortunes in her life, including the personality disorders of her illegitimate children, because I never assumed the father figure role for them. Of the 2 kids, one's father is a jailbird convict and the other father is just as much a loser.

She wants me to support her so she can spend her life sitting on the couch watching television, smoking cigarettes, and getting high.

Though I do not agree with abortions, it is probably good that she aborted two other pregnancies and saved  those kids from the life she has given the ones she has.

I feel she is an emotional bloodsucker and has been draining the life out of me too long.....

Well, that just all came out...

In the meantime, the deal has been done, the funds wired into my account. I still can't touch them until my bank processes the transaction as everything still shows pending.

Hi Jim,

Your family is probably in the norm.  I think every family has it share of "black sheep".  My family certainly does, as well as my wife's.  In fact, now that I think about it, almost everyone I know has at least one member in their family that is in the "black sheep" category.

Like the old saying goes, you can pick your friends, but you cannot pick your family.  And from what you have told us, you have a pretty good set of friends!  That is awesome!

Well gang, Friday marks the big day as I travel downtown to close on the house. I did a final walk through tonight and oddly enough, I just sort of felt emotionless and disconnected. This was the last time I will ever see the house I grew up in as I will never even drive into that neighborhood again. I pretty much had a good cry every night this last week when I was there (I'm secure enough in my manhood to admit that) as I rushed through so many things to separate what to save and what was to go. No doubt I will get emotional when I sign the final papers and hand over the keys. I'm just glad this part of it will be over with. Christmas is going to be such a bummer this year.

When today is done and over with, then you will be able to close that chapter of your life and start healing.  All of this commotion and emotion is like ripping the scab off of a wound causing it to not heal.  But now you will.  And everything will slowly start to get better for you.

Jim, I hope this time next year you can look back on the good times with your family and shove all the the bad stuff in the back of your mind.

Ken: It may work for you it's just that I spray for maybe a few minutes, clean the thing, reload another colour etc. For an extended spray session it might be a good idea.  

I agree with you Cliff.  I am the same way.  Plus, my airbrush has a filter on it that doubles as a handle, which makes it quite comfortable to use anyway.

Hey Ken thanks for the head's ups! I did order a bottle of that Perfect Plastic Putty either you or Jim recommended but it hasn't gotten here yet. The Flash Sander looks pretty cool. Anything that can get into corners like that seems useful. I'll be looking into that first of the year.

On the other hand I have one of the Grex trigger grips for my Grex airbrush and frankly I haven't used it for years. I might work better on another brush but here I have to take the thing off constantly whenever I clean the brush and over time I just felt it was more trouble than it's worth. I guess if you do long marathon spray sessions it might be a good idea but I generally don't use my brush that long.

Jelliott: Sounds cool, frankly I haven't gotten much done either, hoping next year I'll be more on the ball.

I hope you can endure all of the insurance paper work.  I am thankful that you are able to deal with it though!  Much better than the alternative.

Thank you for pointing out the flaw in the Grex trigger.  Now that you mention it, I don't have mine in my hand long enough to matter either.  And it does seem it would be a pain to take off and put back on every time I need to clean it.

Hey all, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around.  I am finally getting ready to tackle the F-4G that I've had sitting on my shelf all year.  I've had a few other projects that I've started (completed one and progressing on another).  I have actually been a little intimidated by the AM stuff that I purchased for the F-4G, now that I've tackled some other minor tings that I'd never done before, I'm feeling a little more confident in using the resin stuff and not so intimidated.  Looking forward to getting back on track.

I just found a really cool set of tools that I definitely want to ask Santa for!    It is the "Molding Flash Sander" by "Hobby Elements".  It is a set of sanding bits that fit your Dremel or other rotary tools.  From the description, it is a great time saver.  Here is a link to a review:

Good hearing from you Ken, it's funny how you mentioned moving all the time with the AF as a kid. I'm Retired from it and still having to move! Of course it goes with the job I guess. I am going through withdrawal myself as I don't have any modeling stuff here yet. I'm still so busy I probably wouldn't have time anyway! Once I get things together I'll be back in the swing of things. Take care all and best wishes to Cliff in particular.

Jim: That's great news, hopefully here you can finally get this behind you and move on with your life.

I am doing somewhat better, thanks guys. I worked two full days Thur and Friday although it was pretty light work. I still need to get a tooth pulled and replaced with a bridge after it broke off when the air bag exploded in my face (still guess it's better than losing a half dozen from getting a face full of steering wheel). I am getting a little antsy from not having any modeling tools though! The insurance company are supposed to be getting them and some other personal effects from my car and shipping them to me. And I went ahead and ordered some replacement stuff from Amazon but here knowing my luck despite their usual super rapid shipping they've been sitting on the order for most of the week. I've done a little work with a single sided razor blade but funny you don't miss your X-Acto knife till you don't have one!!! Sucks when the nearest hobby shop is an hour's drive away!!!

(Since I am joking I guess it's obvious that I feel somewhat better!)

Well, it's a done deal - the contract has been signed by both parties and the closing date is next Friday! I feel, right now, just sort of stunned and OMG! did I just do that?

Now I just have a few days left to remove anything I want to preserve, and then after that comes the accounting process. I have to divide the money between myself and the She-devil, I mean my sister, though she is going to find she may not like how it gets divided. There is all the money she has already spent out of the trust and the fact that the executor (me) is entitled to collect a fee for his services in handling the estate . A lawyer has told me that it is not out of line to charge as much as $100 per hour for his services.

Sorry I haven't kept up with everybody going on here, as I have been a bit busy:

Jim: Hurrah! Some good news! Hopefully now you can move ahead and put most of this situation behind you.

Hey guys!

What a day! I have on the table in front of me, an offer from an investor for Mom's house. I believe it to be a fair offer considering what the real estate agent would have offered the house at, minus his commission, inspections, etc., etc. The bonus is that it means what is still in the house that I don't want can stay (they will dispose of it), and it means no more cleaning, painting, trips to goodwill, no more evenings at the house, I can have my weekends back and so on.

It also means that I can have a check in my hand for the whole amount next Friday, minus title fees and what not.

I am saddened, but elated at the same time as I am so physically and emotionally exhausted, I can not go on any more the way I have been.

By no means will it be done as there is still the accounting end of everything and closing the estate. I may consider seeking professional assistance on this end of it.

I consider myself fortunate to have the assistance of good friends who helped me and offered their support. This includes my friends here.......
