Group Build?
Posted by bluewavecaptain on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 4:49 AM

Hopefully I'm not posting in the wrong area. If I am, I apologize. I'm just curious how a group build works? Who sets it up? What are the deadlines for? How do people know about and join one? Any other pertinent information is helpful too. Thanks a lot guys. I'm just confused on how they work. Thanks again.

A group build or GB is a build with a similar theme.  Anyone can start one but usually a feeler post is put out first to see if there is interest.  Timeline is by choice usually at least 6 months to a year.  Work in progress pics and completed pics are listed during the time allotted.  Hope this helps. Also when the feeler is posted if you can't get roughly ten commitments I wouldn't bother.  One of the best right now is the Butcher Bird GB that has a huge following.

More often than not, a group build begins when someone buys one of the new, hot kits that just hit the shelves. They can't wait to start it, but they also want to get a super cool group build badge to add to their signature line. If a group build that fits their kit's subject is on going they join that one, but if one doesn't they start their own.

Other group builds begin when an aficionado of some era or event wants to commemorate it. For instance WW1 began 100 years ago and fans of the Great War wanted to have a group build based on those subjects.

Last year we had a lot of new members, many of whom were asking about GB's. So I posted this as a bit of a guide, hopefully that will help along with what then other guys have said.

As for the specifics on any GB, they will usually be posted with the first post of the build, the rules if you like.

Gb's without a time frame or one that's to long can sometimes just fade away, so as Johnny said, GB's tend to run from between 6 months and a year.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
