50th Anniversary Vietnam War Group Build
Posted by stikpusher on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 12:09 PM

Today, on the 39th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, and the end of that war, I am putting out the feeler announcement for a Vietnam War GB on here. It will kick off August 4th 2014 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Tonkin Gulf Incident, and run until April 30th 2015, the 40th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. This GB will be open to any and all subjects that participated in the Vietnam War, post 1957, land, sea, or air, any scale, any medium. Military, Government, or even Civil Support are all wanted. If your model subject was in theater actively participating or supporting one side or the other, from the advisory period until the fall and post war operations, it is welcome here.

Rules of Engagement:

1) Any kit, any scale or subject in any medium- plastic, resin, paper, metal, etc. of any subject that participated in directly or support of the war In Vietnam during the post Geneva Accords perios from 1957 thru 1975 with the fall of Saigon and immediate aftermath operations such as the Mayaguez Incident. Well, alright - I see your GB is like an A-bomb - hits everything! In that case I'm in, just don't know what my model will be, but it will be Vietnam-themed. Until later, have a nice day

I take it this is the actual build thread Stik. In that case, put me down for the Italeri 1/72nd F-111A. I have been saving that for this GB.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Stik,
I'll jump in on this one as well with DML's 1/200 B-52D Stratofortress.  Once completed I plan on gifting it to my father as he did a tour as a tail gunner, counting SAMs on many occasions and fortunately never being hit by one.

WIP:
Trying to get my hobby stuff sorted - just moved and still unpacking.

This is perfect for me. I have a ton of models that don't fit in "normal" Group Build categories.

Let's start with a 1/72 J-79 on an Engine Maintenance Trailer, towed by a Ford Tractor,,,,,and then get weird from there.

Count me in Stik, I'll be reading a book about Vietnam this summer so I'm sure that'll provide some interest in something to build...TBD for now.

I believe the last GB I joined of yours was the Korean War build...hopefully I'll be able to finish to this one ;)

Ok, Josiah, I'll get you on the roster here. The subject area is quite broad, so something has to tickle your fancy here...

Yo, Stik -- I gotta be in this one! Put me down for a Fujimi 1:72 A-7 Corsair II, possibly with AM markings, and we'll see what happens from there -- possibly something in camo! BTW, is this aviation only, or would armour qualify?

Cheers, Mike/Thunderbolt379

Everything qualifies- land, sea, or air. Military or civil, as long as it was used in action or direct support of thewar by either side. I will get you added on the roster. Welcome aboard TB!

Ok after giving this some thought I think that I am going with a F-111A. Hobby Boss makes an A with marking for 1973 in Vietnam. I have to get the kit so I do not have any idea what to expect.

All righty then, after a little bit of thinking I remembered that I have a 1/48th scale AC-47 in the stash. To me that is the kit for this build so, scratch the F-111 and bring on Puff

Ok, MK, you are in with Puff. The Monogram kit I presume? Lots of air subjects so far. We need some land & sea projects as well.... Where are the treadheads & sailors????
