Star Wars GB feeler.
Posted by Bish on Friday, September 12, 2014 9:41 AM

First, off, yes, I know there's a SCI Fi GB on going. But I decided to try and get this GB going a year ago, and so decided to stick with it even after wayne got strong armed into the other GB.

So, in the lead up to coming release of Episode VII in Dec 2015, would there be any interest in a Star Wars GB. The last one we had was in 2009, so we are well over due one any way. The GB would include builds from al of the movies, the expanded universe and Star Wars inspired what if builds (yes, I know, its Sci Fi, they are all what if, but I am sure you know what I mean Wink)

If there is enough interest, the build would start on Jan 1st 2015 with an end date pencilled in for Dec 18th, the current release date of Ep VII. Cross over would be allowed.

So let me know what you think, and if its a go, the build thread will be put up in early Dec.

I've been looking for a feeler since you first mentioned this to me last spring.  I'm definitely in.  I've been eyeing my stash and have it narrowed down to a couple of kits.

Don't worry Theuns I am sure it won't be the last time.

Glad to out you out of your misery Bob. I was going to do it sooner but then when I found out the release date of Ep VII, I decided to put it off a bit.

Well I do have that one lonely Star Destroyer in my stash... I originally wanted to build it for Wayne's GB, but I'm afraid I'll have to drop out of that one. I want to try my hand at some lighting, but the custom lighting set I ordered wasn't available. That basically means I'll have to wait untill I can find another set or take the time to make the lighting from scratch. All that aside, the bloody thing is 100% resin and it's gonna take a lot of time to get her built up and painting and weathering won't be a weekend task either...

Long story short, I'd be delighted to join cause I doubt I'll be able to get her some in time for the SCI-FI GB...

Ah what the hell, just pencil me in already! Wink

No problem. What kit is that by the way, I didn't know of any other SD kits apart from the plastic one.

It's the Anigrand resin kit. I believe they only made 200 of them quite a while back. Believe me, you don't wanna know what those things are selling for...

The scale is quite impressive: 1/2256. It scales out at 71cm x 46cm.

MY LHS' owner is going to help me out a bit with constructing a sturdy base and getting all the resin parts cleaned up and bent back to their correct shape. Hhe has far more experience than me in that regard...

Here's a link to a pretty nice looking build of it:

Actually, I just found out. Holy crap. But it looks a whopper, a lot bigger than the plastic kit.

Well, you have nearly a year, I hope you can fit it in with all your other commitments Wink

Thanks Bish Cool. I think I'm leaning towards building an AT-AT in a Hoth diorama.

I hope you get it sorted out Clemens, I'd love to see that massive Star Destroyer put together.

Bob, is that the AMT kit. I did build that with the snow speeders heading towards the AT-AT. Unfortunately it was lost but I have got the kit again. I look forward to seeing yours, I think we are going to have a nice selection of builds.

Did your kit not come with any. Most of the boxings came with two snow speeders and two gun turrets, the ones at Hoth base. I am guessing you must have the one with a movie print.

No, mine didn't come with it. I raided it from a Hoth Echo Base kit, it looks to be the same scale to me

hey SS no worries on dropping out my GB. i understand especially given having to wait for the parts to do it the way you want. mine runs through next june and we do crossovers so whatever works for you. i have GBs i never finished and intend to be mire discriminating in the future to preclude that again.

hey BISH if anyone comes out with a walker i'll consider joining this.

Bish: is the SW GB strictly Star Wars or would alternate markings be allowed? I did a Naboo fighter awhile back in RAF camo/markings. I keep looking at the Snow speeder and thinking Luftwaffe in sandgelb.

Yes, alternate markings for star wars machines would be ok. Putting an Me 109 in Imperial markings would not. Thanks for bringing that up, I will make sure its clear in the build thread.

I like that idea Greg. I have two of the Airfix Speeder bikes one I am doing in German 3 tone camo with the riders armour in SS camo. And I have two of the Trade Federation tank one of which will be done in 3 tone, I was thinking as a Pz XXIII.

Bish after looking around I'm leaning towards the Y-Wing Fighter in 1/72 from Fine Molds. I've never built anything from them, hows the company?

Bloody awesome. I built their TIE Interceptor a few years back and its a great kit and very nice detail. Smaller than the AMT kits, but defiantly very nice. I have since added Darth's TIE, 2 TIE Fighters, X-Wing, Y-Wing and Slave 1 to the stash, all in 72nd. And one day I woll fork out for the falcon.

Be nice to see the Y-Wing getting built.

No, mine didn't come with it. I raided it from a Hoth Echo Base kit, it looks to be the same scale to me

MPC/AMT/Ertl did two different AT-AT kits. One was very large and came with a pair of snow speeders and gun turrets. The other, much smaller snap kit came with a vacuformed base along with several smaller diorama accessories like snow troopers & rebels, some on tauntans and mini AT-STs. It was called "Ice Planet Hoth" and came with X-wings as well as snow speeders and gun turrets. It included two standing AT-ATs and one fallen AT-AT. It was a companion set to the Rebel Base that included a small Falcon and Moncalamari cruiser, Y-wings, X-wings and snow speeders.

The larger AT-AT was one of the original MPC kits and was one of the nicer ones. It came out after The Empire Strikes Back and was reissued in Return of The Jedi with a photo of the AT-AT on Endor. I do not know if the Jedi reissue included the snow speeders and gun turrets.

Rob, when I checked on Star wars models, according to that site, it was only the 2005 release which didn't include the speeders and turrets but had a movie print instead. All the others, including the Airfix boxing, had those extras.

Edit: after saying that, I just had to go and check mine. Its the RoJ boxing and does have the turrets and speedrs.

I just checked the kit, it's the 2005 boxing with the movie print.  It does come with two turrets, and the snowspeeer I have in there came from a different kit as it's a different color plastic.  It's not from the Hoth Base set as those speeders are a little smaller.  I must have found it in my dad's spares and brought it home.

i don't know much about the star wars universe; star trek, babylon 5, farscape

i just picked up the revell snap tile kit. 12" tall so rather large. looks like greeble fun time if i get so inclined and painting will be very important. lots of flat surfaces so a digital urban camo might be amusing.
