The last update I made mention that "I wont this build completed by the end of the year", I never said which year.... Been crazy with my not so new job, havent had much time at the desk to work on any projects.

So here is my completed P-51D Mustang, 85 Sqn RAAF, Japan 1948.

I would like to extend my thanks again to Bish for hosting another fantatic group build,

well done Sir, If I wore a hat I would take it off for you.

Great work for the others that I havent had a chance to comment on your builds as of yet.

Catch ya soooooooooooooonish

Thank you Lost and Cliff.

Still waiting for the last details to arrive through the post office.  In the meantime, I rebuilt some of the forward landing gear as I thought some things could be better.  I'll touch more on that with pictures when all construction is complete.

Jack

Bloody Norah Jack! That work is a-mazing! And in 1/72 scale as well - not sure what superlative to use at this point...

Looking forward to seeing the next steps

Thanks John, TJ, Cliff, and Bish - yea, it's getting there.

All the major scratchbuilding is done.  Got the pitot tube made, just have to glue it to the wing strut.  Now just a few little details to finish up.

I have ordered another PE fret for the stitching because the Eduard set really isn't a good match, also looks a bit oversize. PART, from Poland, looks to be what I need for the Sisken.  They call it Lacing - no wonder I didn't find that first time I was shopping around:

Jack

Engine piping update ...

First steps invloved cleaning up the pairs of holes at the rear of each cylinder.  Hollow aluminum rods of 0.6mm diameter are used for the detailing.  Those areas requiring any bending of pipes were done with lead free wire.

The large collector pipes were made from brass, but really difficult to bend/curve without dimpling - at least that happended on the inner sides so won't be visible.  Little balls of green putty aid the attachment points, giving plenty time for final positioning.

Last detail was adding a couple brass sleeves to accept the exhaust pipes extending along the fuselage sides - a lot of test fitting here...

Above is a test shot to see how well the engine sits with those long fuselage exhausts - it worked out quite satisfactory!

Jack

Bish, John, Griffen, Cliff, and Lost - thank you for dropping in to check out the engine.  Someone on another forum asked how I made the rocker covers atop the pushrods, so put together a simple diagram:

Might be just me and the tumbleweeds here now, this one falling back to page nine of threads...

Have got a general photo of the wing struts fleshed out with plastic (last update they were just brass rods).   Also pictured alongside, the start of detailing the resin engine. Decided to rework the center where the pushrods insert as drilling 0.2mm holes would quickly result in a broken drill bit.

Anyhow, here's some progress on the front of the engine, last image shows the front of the engine complete:

Now I get to tackle the back of the engine.  Each cylinder has a pair of piping, so times 14 cylinders, that makes 28 pieces total.  Propeller

Jack

Eurofighter looks alright because RAF roundels always look good. Smile

Sharper photos and some croping of that open space would make for a better  presentation I think ...
