Just about through with the Mustang.  Just need to finish painting and hang the ordnance.

Should be done by tomorrow.

Thanks Bish.  They certainly do stand out.  This is the first time I've used AIMS Decals and I like them.  It seems like all you have to do is think about dunking them in water and they release from the backing paper.  The remaining markings include a RAAF Mustang, a RAN Sea Fury, a SAAF F-86, a RAAF Meteor F.8,  and a RAF Sunderland.  The only one that won't get built will be the Sunderland (maybe the Meteor as well, just not a fan) due to the fact that I don't have room for it once it's built.  The only thing I don't like is that the roundels are two piece decals.

Today's update.

Just about finished with the decals.  I still have the black outline decals that go on the blue and yellow fuselage decals, and a couple of springboks for the underside roundels.

Still have a few things to paint, but the decals should be done tonight.  More soon.

Put your mask on, there's going to be a paint fight.

Fresh out of the paint shop and ready for decals.

More soon.

Nice job Bish!

Working on another Mustang, which fits in with this group.  Kit is the Tamiya 1/72 P-51D.  Markings are by AIMS Decals for a F-51D from 2 Sqn SAAF based at Chinhae (K10) in 1952.  It was attached to the 18th FBG USAF.

The pit is ready.

Now I have something that looks like an airplane.

More soon.

OOOP's, i actually completed the Ventura last month. But i got so carried away doing the Warrior, i completly forgot to post the final pics and only remembered this week. So, beter late than never, here they are.

Thanks for running the GB and the chance to build this.

Today the various bits n pieces were put together.

A little paint chipping at the usual places (walkways & ammo loading panels), some exhaust stains and dry pastel for dusting the wheels and lower surfaces.

I opted to add the belly drop tank, since the 'N' model airacobras used them almost always, due to their shorter range. All gun barrels were replaced by brass tubing of various diameters (larger for nose cannon)

The kit was then placed on a quickly built airfiled base with a soviet ground crewman ('defected' from an ICM Luftwaffe crew kit) giving an 'all clear' before engine start up.

An oil barrel was also painted, weathered/rusted and placed in the scene, with the USA inscriptions highlighted, so as to accentuate the 'Lend/Lease' nature of the plane (and its consumables).

Time is April 1945 and place is the borders of the 3rd Reich, during the start of the Berlin offensive.

This was a really nice kit, I will be building more in the (very near) future.

I hope all is well with Mach1, whom I wish to thank for this fun build opportunity.

Some pictures of the completed build.

Hope everything is OK. ...

I stole some time to work on the Airacobra and to forge the decision that I will finish this no matter what.

Recognition white stripes were painted.

Then gloss coat (Gunze acrylic), decals & stencils, and then another rich gloss coat. Decals were excellent and advanced my proficiency in Russian, with all those slogans.

Rest of small bits were also painted and gloss coated (prop, landing gear, spinner, drop tank, etc).

Btw I realised from my references that the 'N' model fuel tanks & fuel capacity were smaller than the previous versions (to reduce weight) , thus the drop tank was a must for any decent mission (apart from strafing your neighbor next door )

I ended up loving this kit, I am already devising plans for New Guinea and Guadalcanal birds with nice pin-up  ladies

Finally some paint. Typical N.Gray + O.Drab (Tamiya O.D with some drops of white and yellow) . Some post shading was applied with the airbrush, with mixes of 90% thinner and 10% flat black & white. It still looks a bit 'dead' , I hope when the decals are applied it will liven up.

Bish: The ventura is really nice, I think the RAF camo looks much more fitting than the typical USN blue

TJ: Thumps up for your silver dagger. Beautiful

Got the Ventura primed and painted. I aded the decals from DK Decals followed by a flory wash and a flat coat. Theres a few seam issues, especially around the engiens bt i can live with it. The PE bomb bay dors were a real pain but i got there in the end.

Should have this finished soon.

I made a start on the Ventura a few weeks ago just doing a bit here and there. But over the last week i have been able to put more time into it. This is the kit.

I am useing an Eduard PE set and mask and while they are intended for the PV 1, i can still use most of it on this. After doing some reading up, i used Xtracolours British interior green on the inside.

Fuselage went together, pretty weel.

Then got the wings and tail on. The later is a resin set from Pavla. The fit of the canopy is a bit off, it sticks out a fraction on one side, but nothing major.

I have since got it primed and am now part way through the paint job. So should have some more soon.
