Wow Eric 2-for-1! They really look sweet. Did you use dry-transfers?

Foster, I am adding the road wheels to the F1 after an application of mud and then I will call it done

RAF, I do my mufflers by brush painting Tamiya Red Brown, mixed with either, or both red and yellow. I use the brush to allow for a rough texture and let dry. I will usually apply three or so coats using various shades of the Redbrown/Red/Orange mixture. The paint usually dries glossy, so I have to hit it up with dull coat.

Tigerman, I used Eduard Masks to paint the markings for the F2 and the crosses for the F1. The F1 received the rest of the markings from the Italeri decal sheet.

Sorry it took me so long to reply guys, I somehow overlooked this thread for a while. The comments are much appreciated, THANKS!Big Smile [:D]

Well, with only 4 days to go until MTD, I've managed to pretty well finish up my build.

After basecoating the model, here's what I did to finish her up. First, I applied an overall burnt umber wash and sealed it with Dull Coat. I then drybrushed it with oil paints and again sealed it with Dull Coat. Next I began adding various paint chips and rust spots over the entire vehicle, paying particular attention to the lower hull and moving parts. I also applied a rust wash to the tracks - including the spare links - and some of the on-board tools. This was followed by a light drybrushing of steel enamel to the tracks and the tools. After a further seal coat, I added rust streaks and then began appling pastels. I started with a very dark brown color at the bottom and worked through medium and light browns to a golden color over most of the top.

This has been an extremely enjoyable build-along and look forward to many, many more. As usual all comments, suggestions, and questions are welcome.

Enjoy your modeling...

been working on painting my crew, as well as shooting flat coat
(future & Tamiya flat base) over the hull and turret to eliminate the glossy patches
around the decals.

seeing the in progress and finished shots here is motivating me.
esp. Rebel's crew!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I had to jump in here and see what was happening. It's been real quiet for a week or so. How's everyone doing with their builds?

Enjoy your modeling...

I finally got a chance to work on my Italeri Pz IV F1. This is were I'm at.

I spent alot of time doing weld seams tonight. They're very hard to see in the pic because they were made from streched sprue and most of the sprue came from this kit.

Trevor,

The Pz IV is coming along nicely. I too can pick out the weld seems and I am sure they will add a lot once painted. If you are having any problems, I cant spot them. Keep up the good work!

Very nice!

Good job on the mud. It's a little too uniform for my taste, but it looks good. I really like your soot around both the barrel and exhast. The muffler looks very realistic! I know it's hard to see, but is that tan in the vision ports the color you wanted? If not, you'll need a little "micro" touch up.

Great job!

Enjoy your modeling...

Foster, good eye, yes that is tan around the vision ports. The mold for the cupola was not very good and instead of fixing it, I just put it together as best I could. Apparently this lead to some visible plastic after I painted it. Thanks for pointing it out, I will have a look and see what I can do.

Julian, The mud was a mixture of white glue, Tamiya acrylic paint, fine sand, and some frayed twine that I cut into small pieces. I mixed the paint color I wanted for the mud, and painted the model where the mud would go. Then flicked some paint on with a brush. Finally I added the white glue, sand and twine to the paint and applied the mess to the model.

William, To take pictures I use two desk lamps, a variable ceiling light, a regular table lamp, and one of those tall floor lamps with three directional light bulbs. I have found that using a mixture of regular and fluorescent light bulbs works best and the lights don’t have to necessarily be pointed directly at the model. I don’t always use all the lights described above at one time, but I play around with the lighting arrangement to get rid of most of the deep shadows that the camera will see. I also use a tripod for my camera. This eliminates a lot of blur from a moving camera. Until I found the tripod, I used to set my camera on books to keep it steady. I know it sounds like I spent a lot on lighting and a tripod, but I found the tripod in the basement and the most I spent (besides the camera) was about $2 for several poster boards and perhaps another $1 for the slate tile that I like to set my models on for pictures. The lights are just scavenged from around the house. Good luck and let me know if you have questions, or if you need clarification.

Thanks for the comments guys!

edog the mud method sounds simple but iv'e already learned in the 9 months that iv'e been back into modeling that you never know if it's going to work until you've done it.....
This is only my 2nd AFV and so far so good, when i get a little more experience under my belt i'll try things like mud and snow, but for now i'll concentrate on my airbrushing and dry brushing.......J.S......

Looks like a clean build so far. I cant wait to see some camo on it. Oh, and if it is not too late, you may want to drybrush the guns with some chrome silver. Overall, looking good!
