                        hmmm I am glad I wandered in here... I do smell a Tuskegee airmen GB in the works! We were just discussing this in the Battle of Britain GB topic...

                        I ordered my decals for them, haven't got them yet... I'll see which ones catch my fancy when I get them... In the BoB GB we talked about June or so being a good start for us... mainly because of 3 or 4 other GB's ... let us know what sounds good to you! I can be a little flexible with the date, really wanna get in on this one...

                        the paint is plain old rattlecan modelmaster German Silver,
                        there is household aluminum foil on the flaps/ailerons
                        & i also added Bare Metal Foil 2 the canopy framing after those pix were taken...
                        updated progress pix coming soon ....

                        The Tamiya 1/48 Jugs are currently my favorite kits. Absolutely a joy to build. But for the Tuskegee Airmen, it would have to be a P-51B or D for me. That's where they earned their fame.

                        I don't have the P-47 but i've heard the Tamiya kit is very good, if i were to buy one i think i'd go for the sleeker looking bubbletop in NMF, as far as markings are concerned i'd have to do some researchThumbs Up [tup]

                        Yup-- they flew second-hand razorbacks given to them by the Checkertail Clan...OD top and neutral gray on the bottom....they painted over the yellow/black tail with red- but everything else (including the fuselage codes from the 325th) was left intact. They did eventually inherit some NMF bubbletops, but didn't ave much chance to break them in before getting Mustangs. I still have to build a P-47 and another P-51....but they are getting towards the bottom of the pile right now Sad [:(]

                        Well at least I got one of two builds done. This is the Tamiya Colt OOB. Shes in the markings of Capt Perrons a/c who was assigned to the 362ndFS, 357thFG. She was known as "Little Bitch"
                        He went MIA in 4/1/44. Just wanted to thank Steve-O for his help in the making of the nose art. Tank you SteveTongue [:P].

                        Well i've had some misfortune with my Hasegawa Stang thanks to a falling book, both bubble tops supplied with the kit are well, a little flatter than there supposed to beSad [:(]
                        Looks like i may have to buy the kit again, oh well 2 P-51's are better than one.....

                        OK, here's my situation as of today. I got my AM P-51A done and posted awhile ago. Here's my progress on my 1/32 "D". I wasn't happy with the paint scheme on the yellownose so I decided to do one of the kit's "checkertail" birds. Here is the plane after 2 coats of MM "Chrome Silver":

                        About 1,000 Americans of African ancestry completed their flight training at Tuskegee Army Air Field. Despite initial obstacles, 445 went oversees as combat pilots in the European Theater of Operations, North Africa and the Mediterranean. Flying "bomber escort" and ground attack on 15,533 sorties between May, 1943 and June 9, 1945, the Tuskegee Airmen compiled an enviable Tuskegee Record. None of the bombers they escorted was lost to enemy fighters, they destroyed 251 enemy aircraft and won more than 850 medals. Their record was not without losses, however, with sixty-six (66) Tuskegee Airmen killed in action.

                        The Airmen made it easy in 2 ways--

                        the noses for each were different....the one I omitted (302nd) had red and yellow horizontal stripes. The other way was that their trim tabs were each colored differently-- the 99th had blue, the 100th had black, the 301st had either red or white (I forget and my books are downstairs, and the 302nd had yellow.

                        And it is true that they never lost a bomber due to enemy air attacks...some were lost to ack ack but there was nothing they could do about that-- heck they were one of the few (maybe the only) escort groups that entered the flak with the bombers.

                        I hate it when thae carrier film is too thin. Steve, you can repair it by getting the microscale decal solution and overcoating the sheet (it's saved a few sheets for me).
