thanks Tom, i just explained the weathering process up in the link provided. it was fun and quite effective i must say. it looks more realistic in person than the the pics show, i just couldn't get the pics to show it good enough. i want to try it on an F-14, and an F-18. got me some really cool dirty pics of both of these aircraft, which got the wheels turning on just how i was gonna achieve that splothchy "devil may care" paint jobs that the navy is notorious for. i just kinda "experimented" on the SBD. thanks for the kind words friend. later.

Hey, this Midway Gb thing has really taken off. I'll definitely be in on that one. I have an AM SBD-3 that I could build, but I want to start it pretty soon, so I might get something else, maybe a TBD or the new AM SBD-2.

Jules - Have you got a scheme for that Avenger? I know there were only six of them used at Midway (5 got shot down and one was written off). Just wondering if you have done any research on them. They'd be in the blue-grey over grey scheme, which would look interesting (the only TBF models I've seen were in Tri-colour camo.

Bob - that SBD-2 is marked for Marine Corps Squadron VMSB-241, Midway Island, 4 June 1942 so you are already set!!! If you want to start it now be my guest! In fact if no one has any objections it can be an open start date, ending date can be the last day of the Battle of Midway, 7 June 2005.

What do yall think?

Those dates seem OK to me Tom but only if we start now...............

I modeled mine a bit odd as I said int he Battle of Britain GB... canopy closed, no ordnance, and landing flaps open only, no dive brakes... every one I have ever seen has had the things I left off of mine... I just had to be me!!! Propeller [8-]

That works for me-I was just looking for a reason to build a F4F Wildcat...guess I could build two planes for the Midway GB...

Looking forward to seeing your SBD posted.

Tom,

Thanks-I'll monitor and see if the Midway GB comes to be-would be a good transition from the BoB and then schedule the North Africian GB after that. Of course, there is the 'Ironworks' GB and the bf109 GB that have been mentioned. Looks like the rest of '05 is starting to fill-up...but that's a good thing!

just killing some time wondering what to get into next....and lo and behold, talk of a Midway GB...and I have the AM SDB-2 kit waiting in the wings....it was meant to be!

It also justifies my waiting for that GB and trying to find another plane for the BoB GB to tide me over till the North Africia GB....

Yeah i kinda like the Midway GB idea myself, problem is no Hellcats, but there's a whole range of other A/C to build like the Brewster buffalo for instance as well as B-17's not to mention the Entire Japanese strike force, actually come to think of it Midway may be a little closely related to the Pearl Harbour GB coming up, How about the Battle of the Phillipines i think they called it the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot.........

Jules - I like the sound of the midway GB. That's the one where everyone gets halfway through their builds and can't finish them right? Wink [;)] I've been involved with a few of those type before. I like the sound of a Finnish air force GB better. We might actually get some completed model Big Smile [:D].

yeah I guess you are right Salty.. the Battle of Britain one was the first I have finished on time... it was real fun building a Wildcat in drag.. (crossdressing so to speak, the Martlet was really an F4F)

the next several will be trying though.. a RAAF Typhoon with a fair amount of ultracast parts (awesome seats, I will post some pics in the aussie GB tomorrow of them compared to what came with the kit and you can see) then my first tangling with Alclad... a P-51 done in Tuskegee airmen colors... then a P-47D done in Mexican AF colors from WWII in alclad also... we'll see how those go... then another Martlet, this time with PE and resin for the N Afrika build (luckily the kit is like magic and puts itself together ---Tamiya's F4F) then who knows there is talk of a JG54 build which encompasses an entire fighter group of the Luftwaffe.... as well as a Ironworks build using any Grumman WWII aircraft...

like I said... its ALL so tempting... I wanted to join the Stuka build with my 1/48 Ju88-R2 but time doesnt allow for it now...

same here... with the N Africa build looming and talk of a GB covering an entire Luftwaffe JG in the works as well... I think this place is like the fourth level of hades or something... the special place they send modelers to torment and abuse them... all these builds I have always wanted to try... little time and money to back them up...

I like the sounds of an ironworks GB. We'd have Wildcats, Hellcats, bearcats and Avengers all over the place. Maybe in a few months. I'm involved with four of them at the moment.

That sounds good Jules, I'm looking to get another one myself. Maybe we can start up our own Hellcat GB. I've got heaps of decals left over from when I did my last one, so I might do McCampbells Minsi III bird. I'll go the opposite way to you. Last time, I packed mine with AM stuff, this time it'll probably be an OOB affair.

sounds good tom, i'll look into the acrylic lines you've mentioned. i've used vallejo for hand painting and they perform really well. as far as modelling goes, i've done some basic assembly on my corsair, stuff that was allready painted. but as for painting stuff, i can't afford the initial cost of the CO2 bottle, and i have 3 compressors that are all waaaaay too loud for the apartment. i'd be evicted for sure if i cranked up one of those bad boyz indoors!!LOL so, i'm still playin' the waiting game for now. i'll get there soon hopefully. later.

PS i gotta get over to the BOB GB and check out those pics, thanks for the heads up.

lol! yeah I've been doing a lot of both lately... just finishing up on my MArtlet (F4F Wildcat in british clothing) over in the battle of britain build... got pics posted...

how's your modeling coming brother? been awhile since we terrorized the forum here... hope things are shaping up for your modeling scene! Oh yeah! check out Vallejo or "Colors of Eagles" acrylics... They act a lot different than the MM ones, really go on smooth and haven't had any trouble with tip dry and such with them... (using their brand of thinner as well) since you're stuck with acrylics you might as well get some good ones!
