                        Welsh Models Deux Ponts. I'm cleaning up the wings at the moment. Each wings comes in 4 parts, 2 top parts and 2 underside. This is because the wings out to the engines are level, then crank up with some dihedral. I suppose you wouldn't be able to sand them otherwise, but it means another joint to fill.

                        I've been replacing the trailing edge with Evergreen strip so I will eventually get a reasonable edge.

                        Celestialsphere, I'm feeling the same way about my build. Another year is about what I'll need too. I thought I'd be close right now but forget it. I'm just not happy with the seam work and other areas. With a NMF, it's gotta be perfect and I still need to detail out the gear bays.

                        Greeting All!

                        Well, it's the (official) closing date for this Group Build and I am just getting into the groove for my build. Can I have another.....year?!

                        Last night I finished building the undercarriage bay on my Deux Ponts. I used some Evergreen grooved sheet for some texture and some plain plastic sheet with the curved sections were made of paper. Very satisfying.

                        Now I'm tweaking the wing spars to get the wings to fit square.

                        Thanks I-bean. The Halbie entered "Vacform, scratchbuild and converstion airplanes - all scales" category, plus there was a special award for the best biplane (a fantastic Albatross D.III Oefag won).

                        Excellent finish on your Halbestadt Rafael and on wining some awards. What category did it get entered in?

                        Good luck with your Arado JoeRugby. As far as online tips, I think there were some in some of the pages early in this group build. Can't remember which though. One tip I learned was don't oversand, take your time. It's easy to start sanding away and before you know it a couple of mm that shouldn't be gone are gone Wink [;)]Clown [:o)]

                        Hi Guys,

                        The Halbie visited the Modelscala exibition this weekend. Over 660 models were displayed there!!! Quite a fantastic event, and the good news are he returned home saffely with some Bronze attached!!!

                        Celestiasphere, they are aftermarket. 5 colour lozenge from Eagle Stryke. They conform perfectly and react very well to Micro Sol & Set. Also, IMHO, the colour register looks very accurate and pleasing.

                        Okay, so I have been watching this Group Build since day one...I got inspired and purchased my first vackit. Wings 72 Arado 68E in 1/72 scale.

                        Like a kid at Christmas I opened the mail...well, uhm...wowConfused [%-)]

                        From the looks at the amount of sanding I will have to do will there be any kit left to assemble? I am excited because there is ample opportunity to scratchbuild and raid my spares box. Already picked out new wheels, some old Bf109 ones. Right now I have the fuselage halves and the top wing halves free from the carrier sheet.

                        The directions are very simple to follow. Rafael's use of chopsticks is brilliant and I plan to use it for the wing struts, going to get sushi tomorrow and will be asking for a second set of chopsticks.

                        You all have made it look so easy...Any suggestions for an online resource to construction would be helpful.

                        As promised, here are the pics (although the quality is not that good...). I really enjoyed building this little a/c, and I've learned a lot regarding modeling technics and about the subject as well. I looking forward for the next Vac project!!!

                        Well, it is actually finished, but I had a problem with my camera, so, only today in the evening I will be able to take some pics of the bird. I managed to acomplish the deadline, so, this one will fly over to Modelscala exibition next weekend! I'll let you know the results...

                        Great looking progress Rafael. Looks like you're going to make the "deadline" with time to spare. I'm not sure I will. I need to go back and re-sand the tail planes on the XF-91. I'm not happy with their present profile. So more sanding and re-scribing. It's going to be close...

                        That looks awesome Rafael! Nice work on the lozenge. I like your idea about using bamboo as well. Very neat.

                        As for my own build, progress has been a little slow of late. Currently, I'm adding some paint detail to the cockpit while work on the panel lines continues.

                        Not just cheaper, RemcoGrob. It is stronger and easier to work with (specially if you consider that most of the times even the smallest Contrail struts are most of the times out of scale in such tiny a/c, and are too flexible). Bamboo is more rigid yet with enough flexibility support pressure, and it is easy to work with, using a sharp blade and some sanding paper.

                        Wow, rafael, that looking good! Using bamboo..I would have never thought of that. That's cheaper then using Contrail struts.

                        Unfortunatly, I'm a bit bogged down with my MiG-3. I don't like the sanding phase of a build and that's exactly what I have to do right now. Sad [:(]

                        this is the status as of yesterday. Most of the painting is done, and i'm starting now with decals...





                        The scheme I've chosen depicts the a/c in the NASM exibition, with some colour correction from my own opinion on what the original a/c should have been...

                        I wondered where this had gone.....

                        Well, guys, we are less than one month away from the deadline!

                        My subject is moving well. This WE I did most of the fuselage assemblies and primed. There are a couple of flaws to be corrected, but the winged-thingie is coming along nicely. For the struts and undercarriage I've used bamboo (cutted from chopsticks and sanded until proper size was achieved). Tomorow I hope to start painting the fuselage. UFFFF....

                        Is it too late to get in? I just found you guys, and I'd like to contribute. I built a Welsh Models 1/144 EE Lightning over the summer. If if fits, fine, if not, I built it as an experiment.
                        I wanted to find if I should buy the 3 kit set of V-Bombers from Welsh Models.

                        It has been quite some time since I haven't done anything around this project. I really need to finishit up by the end of september in time for the Modelscala, one of the main model exibitions here in Portugal!

                        So yesterday I've finished placing the coaming on the cockpit, for which I've used Evergreen. This, after trying to use white glue to replicate, which it did not worked out as I wished. I covered it with putty, since it will have to be trimed to size, and the putty will help defining the shape. Also I've placed new access panels which I've cutted with a punch & die. The ones engraved from origin are totaly surreal...

                        Here is the project as today... Now I'll have to get back to that machine gun...

                        Update on my MiG:
                        I have installed the cockpit, attached the wings and stabilasors.
                        I have started putying, there where some very big gaps! I therefore used milliput, this offers the most strength.
                        I'll try to post some pictures this weekend.
