I had to drop out of the build myself cause of life getting in the way all those finished birds look awsome. I be up for another tomcat build if anyone else would like to maybe get it off the ground later on this year.

Hey guys those turkeys look great!
bstrump, that is a hell of a nice paint job- if that's a 72nd scale you sure make em look as good as 48's. Nice work!
osjohnm- very, very nice indeed!
Sorry I had to bail out on the build before it ended but a wedding has it's own way of taking over everything. Like Mark said- life got in the way- big time. I appreciate yall sticking with it and i wish I had been a better moderator! However, now that I am married and have a little more time I am hard charging into paknick40's WW2 a/c build with my second Tamiya P-47D. I can't say enough about this kit. Most of all you guys should join in if you aren't entangled in another GB.
Again- Thanks to all of you who stuck it out- I will promise you one thing- I am back to putting in a little time on the 'Cat every now and again. I'll post pics when I Get 'er Done!
Adios!

Thanks bstrump.

Your 2nd kit looks awesome!
I find mine looks a bit dull, must build a hi-viz bird sometime.

Thanks armor, its been fun and challenging.
I agree with bstrump, we'll have to do another F-14 GB, maybe next year sometime.
Maybe we can focus on one squadron or just build the Tamiya kit Whistling [:-^]

John, that is kick-ass!Thumbs Up [tup]That's the way VF-32 should have done theirs. That paint/marking scheme really works. I'm glad you stuck it out and completed it. Great job!

Now, it so happens I was having the same problem last night as John was but I do finally have finished pics for you of my VF-11 CAG F-14B.

Many, many thanks to armorman for hosting this GB!Bow [bow]Bow [bow] I really enjoyed it and am glad to have participated along with all of you. Perhaps one day when we all have a little more time, we can have a "reunion" GB. Now that we all know the pitfalls of the kits, it might go a little better for us.

Hi guys

Sorry for the delay, photobucket and dial-up weren't playing along last night.
Just uploaded the images at work, the joys of broadband. Here they are:

I reckon it could have been better but at one stage I got really fed up with it. I'm actually glad that I stuck it out and I actually ended up enjoying the build.

Glad to hear that John! Can't wait to see what you've got for us.

As for my #2 build, I'll be posting pics tonight sometime. Looking back through the pages, it seems I never did upload final pics. Oops! Sorry guys.

I am sorry I will not be able to complete any F-14 kits. Life has been throwing me some curves and that has taken all of my time. I hope we can ressurect this GB someday and maybe I could do something with it. All of the builds are looking great and I look forward to the final photos.

Thanks for comments guys.

4 more decals to go (pilot and rio names) and then decaling is finished.
Don't think I'll have the weapons done in time but the Cat itself will be finished by the end of the weekend.

Hi all

I might actually get this done in time. The top half has been weathered and hopefully I'll find sometime later to do the bottom half. Then its just decals and flat coat.

Will post some pics once the weathering has been completed.

Since we all had trouble with our kits, you won't believe it but I almost bought the academy 1/48 kit today, but ended up walking away with the Mig-29 instead. Perhaps a wise decision.

A local toyshop just received a mass of 1/48 academy kits so there is always another day to shoot myself in the foot.

I can tell you without any doubt that I will not be able to get anything done before August 1. I have still been working huge hours and my wife is having some family issues in Seattle which is taking a bunch of our time. I have had lots of fun and I hope we can ressurect this GB someday soon. We all have learned lots about these bad F-14 kits. And there is plenty of them! The builds are looking great!

Hiya fellas!

I finally get to check back in and see whats going on. Looks like osjohnm has a real beauty going and I can't wait to see it with markings on. Nice work!
Remember- only 17 days left for this GB. As much as I'd like to extend it and try to get mine done I just haven't had time to even look at the bench, much less work on it. So, come August 1 it'll be done. How is everyone's progress?

Hi all

All the major paint work has been completed, just have to do some touchups here and there. Weathering and decaling are next.

The VF-32 decals are lo-viz markings, hence I had the idea of using gunship grey.

I was thinking of replacing the Medium Grey with Gunship but that might be overkill or replacing the Medium in the following scheme and painting the tails gunship as well:

I think that would look cool.

Hi Sentry

The trip was great thanks but I wish it had been longer.

Thanks for your input, which scheme do you think the gunship would look better in?

Thx for the input bstrump.

The VF-32 decals are lo-viz markings, hence I had the idea of using gunship grey.
The decals are for one the F-14s that made an air-to-air kill and according to some threads at ARC used the following scheme at the time:

The humbrol equivalent for FS35237 is more blue than grey and I'm not keen on using it.

Since I'm using VF-32 decals and they never used a "non standard" scheme would I offend anyone if I used FS36118 on my 'Cat?

Do you think it would look ok or come out as a flop?

Just a thought I'm bouncing around. Feel free to be brutally honest in your opinions.

Thx
John

Since it's your model, the only person you need to please is yourself. However, to answer your questions, I think some toned down, line bird markings would look pretty good on the dark grey but I'm not convinced that the bright, CAG or CO's markings would. This is a very subjective opinion and what might not look good to me may look fantastic to you.

VF-154 used red stripes on the dark grey and it looked OK but VF-103's toned down, light grey Jolly Roger looked a lot better on the dark grey.
