This Red Knight Tutor equally fits this build as the "All Canadian"

Awood23, try a white light source and use your flash even it does call for it. The orange tint may be from the combination of the yellow light bulb you are using. I am no expert - this is just a thought.

ok... I screwed around with my camera abit and managed to get a few better pics. Im guessing with the gloss coat and red paint that photographing this thing isnt going to be easy... any ideas on how to fix that would be appreaciated.

Well fella's (and Ladies be there any)

Due to an unforseen barrage of personal/family tragedies (sp) I took an unexpected break from modeling. Several months later while cleaning house I saw this thing still sitting at my desk waiting for me to finish it. I just couldnt seem to find the motivation. Finally last week I sat down and started gluing and painting, next thing I knew it was done. When I started this project I had intended this to be one of my first well detailed kits. Given the quality of the kit I had my work cut out for me. I had plans to scratchbuild the cockpit, improve the landing geat, and spend alot of time fixing flaws or blemishes in the fuselage... While trying to dry fit and build I finally threw my hands up in resignation and said to myself to hell with details I just need to finish something. I'll save detail practice for a better engineered kit. It was all I could do just to get the fuselage in a straight line much less improve anything.... I snapped these pics before I left for work and was on my way out the door. Ill try and get some better ones posted some time this week.

Questions, comments, critisism are all welcome.

The kit is Premiers 1/48 Hawk. and all I can say about it is thank god airfix came out with a 1/48 Hawk....Disapprove [V]

First, really niiiice...Vantour. I really like this kit...I was going to build it as well, but time may run out for me...Cool [8D]

On the other...I would guess that you could trim the decal right next to the graphic...leaving no clear film...have you tried putting multiple coats of Future, or another gloss coat?

looks great. I'm glad someone is making some progress unlike me!
Looking at the roundels on the wings, the dark edge could be due to the setting agent in the decals. I'm only guessing though.

My 1/72 HHC Golden Hawk is built straight from the box having only added seat belts and replacement of the ensign on the tail (incorrect in the kit decals). The hangar setting was made for 1/144 scale, hence the small doors.

Does anyone know how to avoid the dark shading caused by the clear decal's edge film when placed on the gold paint? This was my first gold paint spray application.

yardbird78:
thanx !

project update:
i have stripped the paint off the wings & repainted them,
got most of the pit & landing gear details painted, & the
wing upper halves glued 2 the lower portion...
i am not used 2 kits with such good fit, the wings didn't have any
gaps that needed filling or clamping... Big Smile [:D]
the clear parts will get a coat of future soon.

i'm still in this one, but had a minor setback w/ my Hawk
i tried preshading some panel lines w/ a sharpie,
but when i hit the parts w/ paint, it made a right mess...Dead [xx(]Dead [xx(]
now i have 2 try & strip the paint off those parts & try again.
on the plus side of things, the tamiya italian red paint looks
really good on the parts i didn't mark up....
i'll b painting the pit & misc. details this weekend, hopefully.
this revell AG 1/72 kit looks like it will b a fun build !

I had white set of decals made which I'll apply underneath the originals. I figure I'll have to apply the white set, Future it, and then apply the yellow set. It will be a lot of work, but decals are my strong suit, so it will be easier for me than doing custom paint.

Taz, try microscale micro set solution, apply gently with a cotton bud and the decal will lift, you may have to reapply several times, before this happens.

What are you going to do to stop the blue showing through? I reckon I'm going to have the same problem with the red on my hawk. I've considered using the decal as a stencil to apply red over white, but not sure I've got the bottle for it?

Well, I've stalled...Big Smile [:D]

I got some custom decals made for my Blue Angel, got going on them and realized that the blue was showing through horribly bad. So I have another set on order, so it will be a couple of weeks before I can get going on it again. Meanwhile...does anyone know what you can take decals off with so you don't hurt the Future coat underneath? I'm not above repainting, just want to save myself the trouble.

Later all,
Taz

How's this for quick...I used the Model Master Blue Angel Blue, acryl. It went on smooth and looks great..however you would have to use Future or some other high gloss finish to get that "real" blue angel look...which I plan on doing.

May not look like much to you guys, but this is the first kit I have really airbrushed...and it really looks great, the pics don't even come close!

Hey gang, got another update...a couple more shots of the second prime...

Look at that nasty mismatch at the bottom...this was an old Hasegawa kit, and normally they have excellent fit...but not this one...I think it was just warped, not a "defective" part.

I'll have some shots of the first color coat very soon!

Most of the kits I've built over the last couple of years have been Tamiya. Few fit problems, clear instructions etc made life easy. As you know I've delved into the realms of aftermarket resin and metal...and I have to say I've enjoyed it.
I chose the Airfix Hawk because I love the subject matter. Now I'm spending my time getting covered in plastic and filler dust theappeal is waning.
HOWEVER, the hawk is a brilliant aircraft and I can't wait to get that first coat of gloss red on it!
Crazy as it might seem I'm already planning another!

Anyone seen Finding Nemo? I feel like Dory...

You guys look like you into the home stretch, painting and decals. I can't wait to see some blue angels & red arrows. This GB has been quiet too long.

Whew...I thought I was the only one feeling that fiasco! LOL!! I did make some progress on my f-18 Blue Angel...however not much...I'm in the sanding/filling stage as well...you are not alone!

Here is a couple of pics right after the first primer...still some filling needed...

Again, it isn't much...but it is something!
