Very nice build Quagmyre.  I always loved the Parrot Heads, may have to build one some day.  Pics show these birds were heavily weathered, but like you I prefer my birds fairly clean.  As Pix said recently, a weathered build on a clean shelf just looks out of place.

Thanks Rick.

...and she's done. Never been big on weathering. Exhaust is enough.

Trigger finger healed I'm back in the cockpit, and here's a "few" pics. Decals are on the Parrothead. Next up, exhausts and some PE, flatcoat seal, some weathering, and, of course, remove the masks and clean and add clear parts. This is my last P-40 and will look good next to my P-40B and P-40E on the USAAF display shelf in the office.

Oooo! Halftime is over... back to the Illini game!

rjkplasticmod...That story sounds familiar! Fortunetly it didnt go in too deep. I slapped on a band aid, and went back to building, hehe.

OUCH Quagmyre, that had to hurt.  I had a #11 X-Acto roll off the bench & imbed itself in my right thigh.  Happened several years ago, but the scar remains.

OOOWWWW!

Sorry to hear about that.  I TOTALLY feel your pain.  In 1992, i shaved off a large piece of my left middle finger including a little piece of the nail with my trusty ole No. 11.  To this day it just doesn't look right.

Yeah... where is Steve-O?

Made some progress on the interior of my "Parrothead" Hawk this weekend. That is, until I split the tip of my left middle finger with the exacto knife. Right through to the back of the fingernail. Yuck [yuck] Total Darwin candidate moment I'm embarrassed to admit. And the second time in the past three years that I've nearly lost part of a finger on my left hand (pinky finger back in 2003). Was kinda funny giving the nurse the bird as she stitched it up. I kept apologizing.

Marc, it was the flourescent lighting that was the culprit.  If your cam has a white balance adjustment you can avoid the problem, or you could correct it with software like Photoshop.

I just figured out Photobucket...

So here is a group shot of my favorite subject. 5 R/M P-40B/C's, 1 Otaki/arii P-40 E. 1 R/M Pro-modeler P-40E. 1 Hobbycraft P-40B. 2 K-line P-40 E's repainted.

These were all built over the course of many years. So as you can see the quality varies! I have a pair of R/M P-40B/C kits waiting to be built. I am hoping to build one as the XP-40.

My latest P-40 is still waiting for a set of FCM decals to complete it.

So far so good TAdan.  Gotta love the ole Revell P-40B.

Rick, you're right the pics have a bit of a greenish tinge.  I think it had to do with the green cutting mat and the flourescent lighting.  The one pic is kinda blurry too.  The model itself is far less green and blurry.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Thanks for the kind words, Marc.

Well I wasnt officially in this GB, but while it was going on I finished a R/M P-40B!

Nothing too exciting. Just OD over light grey in generic pre-war USAAC markings. I was going for a "factory fresh" type look.

Ah yes, the never ending GB.  Anyone heard from Steve ?  Seems like he totally bailed out.  Anyway, nice work on the camo, but the colors look off in the pic.  May just be your camera white balance, but both the Midstone & Dark Earth seem to have a greenish cast, at least on my monitor.

Here's the latest progress on part 2 of my GB submission.  This is Academy's 1/72 P-40E that I'm doing-up to represent a desert Kittyhawk of an unknown squadron.  (I just don't know, someone out there might recognize a unit once the decals are on.)  I'm trying to get a really faded, wind and sand wore look, and so far I'm pretty happy with the results.  Input is greatly appreciated.

I've actually got some progress to report for this build too. Got my Hasegawa P-40N all flat coated and ready for final assembly. Hopefully should have it done pretty soon.

Finally got a start on the 1/48 scale Eduard P-40N (Profipack). Got started on the cockpit assembly. Probably about half the way through interior detailing. Nothing special... just finally getting the horse out of the gates on this build after all the Chicago-Seattle travelling the past seven months. Two more months to go.

This one won't be totally OOB. Gonna use Cutting Edge's Colorful Warhawks Pt. 1 decal sheet to make one of the "Parrotheads" of Napier Field, AL circa 1943.

Well... off to O'Hare to catch my flight to Seattle. See ya all next weekend.

Marc and Rick, thanks for checking out my in-progress build.  I Futured (is that a word?) over the decals this morning, so hopefully can apply the wash and flat coat soon.

Rick, I've also noticed Hasegawa's P-40K, and will definitely get one once it's released.  It appears to have the markings of Ed Nollmeyer's plane, which is one I want to do.  The AMtech went together nicely, but it will be interesting to compare the two offerings.

Well, since this group build seems to have no end date, I'll post an 'in progress' picture of my latest project.  This is AMtech's 1/48 P-40K with the resin tail.  Markings are for Lt. R. Johnson 'Jay' Overcash of the 57th FG.  Hopefully I'll have this completed by Christmas, and will post more pics in the Aircraft Forum.

WOW !!! Marc.....Your builds just keep getting better and better. I don't know where to start. From the CP to the wheels, that's one excellent build. What really jumps out at me is the weathering on the underside. Very realistic. And the plumbing is a very nice touch. Certainly a winner. Congratulations!!!!  Sorry for the duplicate. This new forum is kinda touchy. :)

Thanks Daniel... and the intake paint did get correctedSmile [:)]

Stuff in my paint really bugs mne for some reason. I have had to rip off wings to put in forgotten cockpits, twice nowSad [:(], and it does not bother me nealry as much as if I have to touch up the paint.Confused [%-)]
