Hey is that a tumbleweed blowing through....

I've used some ELO to remove the orange orange peel from my X-1 finally, but it took 5 or six applications. I managed to break the pitot and nose pointy thing, so they've been replaced (improved) with syringe needles.
I'm now back to square one in the painting game and will go out and commence priming this weekend.
I'm looking forward t oknocking this one off, its been around too long.
Cheers
Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Think it will be the T-38 from Sword in 1/48 and maybe a F-104 as well

I've seen the A kit pretty much everywhere... even Wally World should have it. I don't know if the B conversion is still around or if you'll need to go to ebay.

Any kit suggestions ?? ... I prefer 1/48 but 1/72 will be OK as well ...

Thanks,

In 1/48 the only Six of which I'm aware is the RM kit which was recently re-released. It's an older kit (I'm building it now) with raised panel lines and some fit issues but it's well-detailed. It is an A model, though... there is a conversion kit out there somewhere to build it into a B. I dunno if anyone makes an OOB kit for the B in any scale.

Hi again:

Forgot to mention a few things ...

I've been building models since the old Strombecker kit days ... anyone in this Forum remember those ?? ... first one I ever finished was a B-29 ... have built in all scales but prefer 1/48 altho some of the newer Trumpeter 1/32 + kits are more than interesting ...

A/C my passion but have and will build just about everything ...

Also have a great 1960's era Santa Fe based model railroad that occupies a great deal of my time too and have recently started flying R/C sailplanes and electric Old Timers again ...

Anyone coming through my area, don't hesitate to give me a shout ...

well here is a update for my f-18 nasa chase plane
cockpit and seat painted and detailed
upper and lower halfs and sides along with the fod covers ,wings and tails all done. and i do think i have found a solution on how to get a good fit on this kit.
all landing gear painted and detailed
all gear doors painted
fuel tanks and plyons painted
canopy painted and ready to install
and i do think i am not scared of using white paint any more. so here are a couple of pics of it all painted and furtured just have to waite for it to dry and then put on the decals , i also decided not to paint that darn blue stripe that runs along the sides of the plane. only bad thing about white paint is sure does show you were you didnt get a good fit and all your minor screw ups

If I remember right, I used the little bottle testor's gloss dark blue. I have used so many different blues lately, I'm not too sure. I do have a bottle of that paint and I don't know what else I would have used it on. The little bottle testors stick out on the rack next to the other paint jars. Smile [:)]

I believe it is FS15042 "Dark Sea Blue", but the "Blue Angel Blue" (FS15050) might work well too.

Meteor Productions is at www.meteorprod.com Just search for NASA and you will get a list of everything they have. CED48236 is their NASA logos decal sheet.

Ironically, I was at my LHS this morning and saw two Hasegawa NASA F-18 kits. Tongue [:P]

Hi Everyone,
Here is my X-1. If you look closely on the wing, you can just see the orange peel. This will have to come off, and then a re-spray.
Cheers

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

If you are looking for NASA F-18 decals, then I assume you didn't get the Hasegawa kit with NASA markings? If you need some NASA logos, you can try Meteor Productions, they have a decal sheet with all sorts of logos in various sizes. That is what I intend to use on my T-38. I'll just have to paint the blue lines. The Hasegawa kit comes with some nice decals for the blue stripes, so it should be a wonder to paint that kit... all white! That will save on the airbrushing time.

Everyone is welcome to join! A renovated X-1 will be cool and I can't wait to see the F-18 Ga.modeler. Is that the Hasegawa F-18 kit? I have that one, but I don't think I'm going to get to it this year.

Thanks for the color advise Eagle336. Was the dark blue just "Dark Sea Blue" or a "Blue Angle Blue"?

Hi,
While I'm at it, what is everyone's preferred method of paint removal? It's a lacquer.
Thanks

The dark blue is painted on and I have seen a picture of this airplane that looks like it doesn't have the thin gold stripes on it, but looking at it again, it may have just been the way the sun was hitting it. Anyways, I didn't put them on. The light blue is just old Testors square bottle light blue. I know there have been discussions on the the shade that NASA used but when I worked for a small museum in Hampton VA where we had a couple of aircraft from the Langley Research Center, this Light blue was a dead on match for touch-up paint.

Hi Everyone,
Nice 104 Eagle, tell us some more about it.
Can I join ?, I've got an Eduard Bell X-1 that's painted, but the orange peel is so bad I'm going to have to strip it and try again. It's orange at the moment, but it may even end up white.
Cheers

Sweet! I like it. Was the dark blue strip a decal or did you paint it on? Good job Eagle

Unfortunately, I've been a slacker... I've got a backlog of models to finish before I let myself start my T-38. Fortunately I have this week off, so hopefully I will get through some of them soon and start it. I can't wait.

Here's a picture of my 1/72nd F-104 by Hasegawa. Not that great, but it's done.

Sweet idea Eddie! I'd love to see that one.

It might not be quite as unique as a Super Guppy, but here is a picture I took at the Boeing Museum of Flight in Seattle a few weeks ago. If anyone is interested in doing a 737, here you go,
