Good news.  Smile [:)]  I soaked my spinner in Turpenoid for about 2 weeks, and low and behold I was able to simply rub the paint off and start over.  I primered last night, will paint it again tonight this time with acrylic instead of the enamel.  Just about done guys, thanks for your patience with my little spinner fubar.

Tom-I'm looking forward to following your B-25 build.  And learning more about uncle's career.  I just picked up the AM B-25 C/D from the Squadron Hanger sale.  Very impressive kit.  I think I'm gonna wait a while before tackling it though.

Karl - it's the unit insignia for the 42nd Bomber Group from WWII.  I've recently had a great breakthrough on research of my great uncle's USAAC career.  He flew tail gunner in B-25's in the S.Pacific and CBI (Island hopping till be were close enough to assist china)

Ok, I received a replacement yellow spiral decal from Stephan Wilkinson (thanks, I really appreciate it!).  I'm just waiting for the paint to be fully cured before I put the decal on.  Once that's done I'll post the final pics.  Smile [:)]

Darren

As with everyone else, I want to thank you for hosting this build.  As I said when I joined, I needed some motivation to get back into it, and this GB definately provided it!  This was a ton of fun and I am glad I got to participate.

Well, my FW is all finished except for the spinner.  If it's ok with you then, I'll wait until I the spinner and decal arrive from Ross, then I'll post the final pics.

Scott I've had that same problem before with both enamels and acrylics.  I don't know why it happens but for me it's usually on thin AM decals.  The thicker Japanese manufactured decals seem to work OK, it's just that they don't look as good.

All, well depending on what hemisphere you are in the build either officially finished yesterday or today.  I just wanted to say thanks a lot to everyone who participated in this GB and made it so much fun Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].

Don't worry for those still building, just post your updates to this thread as your builds get completed.

Cheers Darren

I'm going to "tack" on the alternate spinner so at least my build will be "finished" today.  I'm going to see if someone can spare the spinner I need and the yellow spinner decal for a few bucks so I can put them on later so it's "correct".

Scott, that's a bummer.

Gloss enamel usually has to be left for at least a week to cure fully, which might explain your problem.

Looking forward to seeing it finished.

Banged Head [banghead]  Oh man, ran into a snag.  I tried to apply the spiral decal on the spinner.... I'm not sure what happened but as soon as the decal touched the spinner it bonded permanently to it.  Shock [:O]  Naturally, it wasn't properly aligned and I could not move it to save my life... I tried everthing, water, Microset etc.  It just would not move. Sad [:(]  I couldn't even scrape it off with my fingernail. Angry [:(!]

Has anyone every encountered a problem like that?  I sure haven't.  I used a gloss black  I normally use Tamiya Acrylics, but decided to use a can of gloss black Testors enamel I had.  I let it cure for almost 2 days.  Anyone have any ideas on why the decal immediately and permanently bonded itself to the spinner?

In order to have this thing finished tomorrow, I'm going to have to use the alternative spinner which was used with the wider bladed prop and I guess I'll use either the white or red spiral, since the yellow one is hosed.  Disapprove [V]  Oh well......

I just attached the landing gear to my FW190.  All that remains now is another gloss coat, oil wash and flat coat.... the end is in sight.... and the clock is ticking... Shock [:O]Laugh [(-D]

Nice builds Scott.  Shame about the decal on the 190.  I learned long ago that the extra effort involved in masking & painting fuselage bands is well worthwhile.

Agreed, in the future I will ALWAYS airbrush the fuselage band.  Live and learn.  Smile [:)]

Thanks guys, I appreciate the positive reinforcement.  Smile [:)]

The Wildcat is for the Carrier Group Build.  I'm very please with the way (the Wildcat) it's turning out.  I had to do some repair work on the cowling i.e. respray it, so that's why it looks flat while the rest looks gloss.  I'm going to do one more gloss coat to it, then oil wash, then flat coat it.

The FW190 is pretty much at the same stage.  I'm going to put a coat of future on it tonight, oil wash it tomorrow, attach the drop tank and landing gears on Sunday and Flat coat it Sunday Evening or Monday morning.  By the way, I spend almost 4 hours on the decals for that FW.  Was fun, but a bit tedious.  My wife was very patient with me last night, especially since we didn't have the kids last night and we should have been swinging from the chandeliers.  Evil [}:)] Laugh [(-D]

I'm pretty excited about those two planes as they are the first two model airplanes I've built in 26 years.  Smile [:)]  And the first two projects I've airbrushed with my double action airbrush.  They aren't perfect, but I've learned an aweful lot and hope it will show on my next coupld of projects.  Cool [8D]

Scott the 190 and the Wildcat look cool, they both should look excellent fat coated, btw what build is the Wildcat for it looks really good (not that the 190 doesn't Blush [:I]).

Tanky & Pingy don't sweat it.  When you finish up your builds post your results so we can oogle over them and I'll mark you complete.  Boyd same goes for you, just post some pics when you can.

Cheers

Whew!  Just spent several hours getting these decals on.  Tedious work.  They all went on extremely well, except for the one that really matters.  Against my better judgement, I used the white fuselage band decal instead of masking and painting the band.... and sure enough it didn't go on very well and actually tore on the top, the worst place for it to happen.  Angry [:(!] Banged Head [banghead].  Oh well... the rest looks pretty good.  Here is a photo right after finishing the decals.

The rest turned out good so at least I have that.... Big Smile [:D]

I'm finishing up my decals on the FW190A8 tonight, hope to gloss coat tomorrow, attach gear and oil wash Saturday and then flat coat Sunday.

Whew, I feel like I'm rushing to finish a term paper!  Shock [:O] Laugh [(-D]
