How about an all Ohio Group Build? I noticed there are a few of us Ohioans here and I think it'd be cool. But one person in a group build is lame, lemme hear some of you buckeyes shout out!

Discriminatory?

Do you feel the same way when someone does a P-40 group build, and you don't want to build a P-40? What about when someone does a "German Armor GB", and you don't do armor?

You gotta be kiddin' me....SoapBox [soapbox]

Count this cranky engineer from Cincinnati as IN! If you live in California, or Oregon, or Wyoming, start your own group build. SoapBox [soapbox] SoapBox [soapbox]

There is a difference between a GB with a similar subject and a GB for people in the same geografical location.

Oh, why not: let's mingle in this discussion.

We're all on the same website, so why make a difference between the place where the PC is standing? Makes no sense actually. What could possibly be the added value of merely selecting "Ohians" (does sound okay...) for a build?

Well it would have added value, if you would come together in Ohio now and then, or make the original "Ohian" aircraft, as only "ohians" can. Besides that, you might as well let other "earthians" in on the build as well.

I believe that there have been "down under" GB's. So why not Ohio GB's? Look, if it's up to me, have fun with the group build. Still, please inform me of the added value. What is the fun in that? Ans I truely mean this: if there is an essential value here, I might start a Dutch GB. So please post!
If there isn't any value added, why bother, I'd say...

As 'concerning to discriminatory'... I discriminate every time I make bread. The peanutbutter seems heavily offended when I choose to eat cheese instead...

Never done anything with a 'soap box groupbuild', but I reckon you'll find enough builders to join your GB, then.Big Smile [:D]

Discriminatory? Hardly.

If folks want to do an Ohio GB, then perhaps building something with an Ohio theme, like an ANG aircraft, or some piece of hardware originally manufactured in Ohio, and opening it up to anyone is the way to go.

Anyone who feels this is discriminatory has the same right to start a "Living in a hut in Southern Tasmina" or any other group build if they so desire.

Let's keep it fun people.

Hey Jeff, I didn't know there was a GB for where I lived! Big Smile [:D]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)] Sounds fair to me, not discriminatory at all... but I'm a New Yorker so I couldn't join of course.

The whole point of the Australian (or down under) GB was to build a model of something that was either built by Australia or used by Australia. It was open to anyone from around the world, and we got a fair few people in. There's alot of Aussies on this forum too, so it was good fun.

You could do the same thing with a Dutch GB. Open it up to anyone and build Dutch stuff......

As for these Ohians, they can start up any GB they want. It's better than some of the other GB ideas I've seen floating around. Have fun chaps.......

I agree, let them do it. I got a Canadian GB going, it is open to anyone as long as the model has Canadian content, it doesn't matter who builds it.

RadMax, go for it.
If you don't like it, don't join.

Well, as a Michigander I have to object to anything related to Ohio Smile [:)]. But, putting Big 10 Football rivalry aside, I don't see anything wrong with the idea.

Well. Didnt expect this much contraversy, just kinda throwing an Idea out there... But since our old pal Jeff said it's cool, I think I'll make it. I'll come up with the terms in the next couple days...

If you open it up to all modelers, and aircraft with an Ohio theme, I'm in. Now I'll just have to find (or make) decals for the "Spirit of Ohio" B-2A.Big Smile [:D]

I'll move this to the group build forum until you've established your guidelines.

Svankreijl, what drives anybody to join group builds? I just noticed that it's never been done before so I say, why not?

Sure, but general GB I understand. How do you cope with the rigging, when were all building WW1 bi-planes? How do you do the weathering when were all building WW2 japanese fighters? How do you make something OKAY from ancient FROG kits, or matchbox tanks?
That I all understand as good reasons to start a GB. Okay, it's never been done before... you probably have more drive for this GB than just that. So, sure have fun with your GB-members in this GB! But still curious: What's the added value of the fact that no californians for instance can't join? Or is a GB as proposed by Jeff?

WOW, there has been a lott of discusion!

OK, maybe I didn't understand it correctly. Is the ohian GB:

A: a GB with specific Ohian subjects (example the ANG, a ohian firetruck etc.)
If so,I very much understand the GB. There is indeed no real differnce with other GB's subjects like belgian GB or foreign MiG's

B: a GB in wich only people living in Ohio may participate. (This is what I understood at first, but after reading how the tread developt this might be a wrong interpretation)
If so, I don't get it.

You just said Ohio GB. Ok, well be a little more specific. People are just posting GBs left, right, and centre, with no rhyme or reason.
"Oh it hasn't been done before, cool, lets do one" <- Insert bubbly blonde shaking her head side to side.
If it's a GB pertaining to something built or used exclusively in Ohio, then I say go for it, it's a good idea.
If it's a GB for people that are LOCATED in Ohio, or were born there or whatever (and I take it that's what you meant, since you said there were a few of you here) I think it would be a limiting, pointless GB.
