Remember When??? GB
Posted by MontanaCowboy on Thursday, September 8, 2005 5:44 PM

Start Sept 10th
End December 31st (happy New Year!)

Remember when your dad would take you to the hobby shop and you would buy a really cool looking kit, not because you had researched for weeks, because the box looked cool. You would buy a tube of glue and if you're lucky, a few paints. You get home and start right away, you build everything first, and paint later. Decals go on a flat surface, the model is finished in one day and it sat proudly on the shelf for all to admire your hard work

I thought about starting this GB for all to remember the good days.

rules (very loose rules)

1. Max 5 bottles of paint
2. no putty or filler
3. minimal sanding.
4. NO PE, AM, or Scratchbuild
5.can be an affiliate of other GBs (if you dare!)
6. tube glue is the only thing usable (no CA)
(landing gear will have to cope)
7. decals should be applied to a flat surface.
8. NO FUTURE
9.any scale, no smaller than 1/72
10. NO AIRBRUSH

modifications to the rules are possible.Clown [:o)]

I ran this by the people in the aircraft section and they approved

IMO - I do not think too many people would 'wast' a build for a GB.

It's a cool idea, but why make something 'bad' when you can make it good?

Come on, I'm sure you could spare one from your stash. That's what I'm doing. Maybe go for a smaller scale one.

I'm sure you still could make a great one. Just use different techniques.

Be really brave and declare that only those little white Testors paint brushes can be used. I remember building these in a matter of hours. I know I have a Matchbox kit or two that could fit into this build. They come in multi colors so no painting is required!

Oh darn... no airbrush???!!!! I will have to find an older matchbox 1/72 kit as those were truly the ones i first started modeling with. Anyone know where i can find a 1/72 Lancaster by matchbox??? (That was my very first kit at 8)

I will let u know soon as I find it.

I'm definately in on this one. I will get back to you on what I am going to build. I have many kits that I used to get back in the days by mail from a model club that I joined. I used to build them in a couple of hours and then had nothing to do for the rest of the month. Now it seems that I concentrate too much on getting it to look perfect that I forget this is supposed to be fun. This is going to be fun.

Is spray can paint allowed? I used that in building my first models.

Now this I can do. Given my limited availabilty right now I might be able to make this happen.
Count me in with an ERTL 1/35 BMP. I've been sitting on this kit for years and it should be just about right for this.

I don't have a stash - "I get as I go"

It would be fun, but with my $$$ if I buy a kit, I have to do it as best as possable...

sorry, but I can not join, but yes this would be lots of fun, so Enjoy!

I GUESS you could all use spray paint, I'm not, but only one can, and you can't buy 2 of the same. No primer.

MontanaCowboy,

That was just a joke about the B-1B. I will be doing a Hasegawa T-34 Mentor. After shelling out nearly $60 for the Bone, the wife would decapitate me if I didn't go the max on that one!

Well I started the GB today, and I'm about 90% done.

Yesterday I was in the LHS looking for some harrier declas, when I found a harrier kit. I picked up the kit (50% off!), and brought it home. I opened it up today, and realized it's a horrible kit. It's an Italeri 1/27 Harrier GR.7. I was looking at the parts, and relaized it would take a hell of a lot of work to make it look nice. I really didn't feel like scribing pannel lines into the entire model. Since I got it for the decals, I figured this would be a perfect canidate for the GB. I finished it in about 1.5 hours. A few spare decals will go on this evening. I'll post pics soon. Talk about fun too! I felt like I was racing to get it done.
