Custom GB logos...save space (and bandwidth)!
Posted by knight667 on Thursday, September 29, 2005 12:19 PM

Hey everybody! So I thought I'd offer my services to people with GB badges in their signature. Basically, if you like, I can create an animatd GIF of all of your GBs that take up very little space (about 166x66 or so). Just send me a message and point me to a thread that you've posted in so I can grab the images and I'll email you the GIF file. Check out my signature to see what I'm talking about.

I'm doing this for free and for fun, so don't hesitate to make a request!

Note: apparently Photbucket doesn't support animated GIF files, so if you're having trouble getting it to display there, send me an email and I can host it on my personal site.

(Thanks to Jeff Herne for stickying this!) No problem, I like this idea even more than limiting the GB badge size we had to implement in the first place! JH

John thanks for a great idea Thumbs Up [tup]. I have a GIF animation tool so I've been able to do it for myself, but thanks for the offer.

Oh yeah, I host my photos out of Photobucket and I've never had a problem with animated GIFs.

What are the chances of having you animate the two badges that we have for the FAA? Cowboy [C):-)] Perhaps you could explain to me how it's done?

Knight667,

Are you still offering to help with creating the animated GIFs?  I have now joined enough group builds that I can not fit all of the badges on my signature line (the last one is mostly hidden on the bottom line).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey John, are ya still around? i too could use your help with the antimated GIF. I've got the badges in my signature block, but as you can see, i've got less room. Any help would be awesome, since i don't know how to create an antimated GIF file. Thanks!

Warmest regards,

Roger

You have a good thing going there do you make up badges as well. I made my first GB badge for my GB Halftracks it's a little small but it looks ok for my first try. I guess if you don't do that then I realy need to take some time a learn my photo shop program "GIMP" I worked with it last night "MAN"Banged Head [banghead] it's not ez to make up a badge.

So I was looking at this site and was realizing it's very cool that people put their Group Builds in their signatures, however you can't click on any of the group build icons and be directed to the group build in question. But this can be remedied, all you need is the right code.

So I did some experimenting and this works very well.

< a href="/forums/943752/ShowPost.aspx">[ img]http://home.comcast.net/~theonyxabyss/finescale/seaplanes_2.jpg[ /img]< /a>

Notice I had to put a space between the beginning of the tags so that it wouldn't activate in this text box and so I could show you it. So you need to take the space out between "<" and "a"  and "[" and "img]" etc with the other tags. When you've got it right you'll be able to click on any of your group build icons in your signature and it will direct you right to the group build.

This way when someone see's a group build that interests them in someone's signature they can just click the persons icon instead of going on a hunt through pages of group builds for the thread. If you have any problems just p.m. or post here.

I like your coding but can you use in if you have a lot of badges, as most of the guys & girls here do. I my self would love to use this code but I have 4 badges, two of wich I have not put up yet. I was thinking of getting them posted in a slow paced slideshow in my signature. I don't realy know what I'm going to do right now.

Here's all my badges.

Avadon tell me what you think.

I haven't figured out how to embed a link in a gif yet, although I think it should be possible.

Most image editing programs can make that conversion, but a gif is not an animation by itself.  To make the conversion with a still image, just save it with the file extension.gif in place of .jpg.  Did you need an animation type .gif?
