Battle of the Atlantic Feb. 1 to Aug 1, 2006
Posted by razordws on Sunday, October 30, 2005 5:16 PM
As 2006 is rapidly filling up with pre-planned GB's and given the level of interest in this build I decided I better get this thread going sooner rather than later. So without further ado...

The rules (aussie rules: anything goesWink [;)]):

Begin February 1st 2006 and End August 1st 2006

1) The Battle of the Atlantic spanned virtually the entire conflict so any Aircraft, Ship or Submarine that was involved in the Atlantic during WWII is included. This includes all coastal ships (such as MTB's) and landbased aircraft that can be shown to have had some roll in the conflict (beaufighters and He 111's etc.)

2) All scales, after market, scratch built etc. is allowed. Go for it!!!Tongue [:P]

3) Have fun!!! (like I need to say that) Big Smile [:D]

Badges: Please download and link to your own site (Hopefully they will still be useful after the change over)

Yah Jules... thought you'd like that one given your build and all. As for Kremps, she just knows how much time you're going to spend on this build so I can see why she's a little jealous and trying to keep you out of it. Wink [;)]

Chris I know Academy makes some excellent ones in 1/72. Not sure what's available in 1/48.

Dave I'm definitely in with either a Coastal Command Beaufighter Mk.X from Tamiya or US Navy TBF-1C Avenger from AM.

I've gotta enter this one..... Don't know what I'll build, but I'll sort something out before Feb. I'm thinking maybe one of those big U-boats or maybe a battleship.

I'm in with either a wildcat or avenger. However, I am curious what version of dauntless was used in the atlantic. I have a -1 that I really don't want to do in nmf - probably too early though...

Great badge by the way!

I dunno, well maybe, um, let me figure... well - hey OUCH, that hurts! stop twisting my arm! Okay, Okay I'll join! You say Academy does a 1:72 Catalina? maybe I can do a Canadian Canso operating out of Nova Scotia or Newfoundland... We'll see. Maybe I can do Flt Lt David Hornell's, He recieved the VC for attacking a U-boat and his actions there after which cost him his life.

Of course, where the Aussies the englishman and the texan go, I must inevitably follow. After all, what would a usual suspects group build be without Tanky's tablecloths, eh? Big Smile [:D] Put me down for a U.S ship in 1/350 that served as a sub hunter- more details when I find the kit amidst my stash and figure out what exactly it is.

Chris - I've seen some reviews on that Monogram kit and it looks pretty good. I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

hmmm... what to do what to do... well by Feb I can have the PE set ready if I dare... I don't want to commit with it until I think about it but I might sacrifice my S100 Schnelloot on this one... thinking about one of the fabulous PE sets for it too... but I may find something else a little more fringe so I'll wait till closer in to commit!

Dave - the only thing holding back from the Schnellboot is trying to think how I can mount it in a glass or plexiglass case... once I spend $60 on PE I sure don't want to have to dust the thing and have it come off! Wink [;)]

Yah I know what you mean Tom. I just finished an old Hasegawa 1/700 Essex with the Eduards PE set for the Pacific GB. I bought it just before they announced the new Dragon kits (figures). However it is the first 1/700 I've built in about 20 yrs and my first experience with a PE set in that scale also so I figured I'd experiment and if I screwed it up I'd have a good excuse to go buy the dragon kit Big Smile [:D]. It was a ton of work and while it looks great I'm scared to sneeze aroung that thing. I started it in my old house and now I don't have any good storage/display space for it in the new house. I'm keeping the original kit parts handy because I have feeling I'll be needing them in the future. Disapprove [V]

Tom i say go the S-Boat, i was reading a little on them last night and i had no idea that they were so succesfull operating in the North sea and Channel sinking 100"s and 1000's OF shipping tonnage not to mention quite a few destroyers and escorts, I have a really cool pic of one with lots of ventilation holes courtesy of a midnight encounter with Vosper MBT's...
As for me i'm definatly in with the U-Boat but i have to tell you fellas that i've already joined the hull and added the deck which i did when i got the kit but there is still a whole heap to do including all that PE in the AA Guns and deck gun not to mention the superdetailed conning tower.....

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] Nice shirt Chris Thumbs Up [tup] Good luck with your search for the 1/48 Catalina. I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to find one. Oh... and if you don't know what to do with that 1/72 Catalina you ordered you can always send it my way. Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]

Jules... BAD BOY If Kremps wasn't hiding out from the bankers who financed her borsch shelving scheme (apparently Wal-mart had a shipment that was fermented ewww Yuck [yuck]) I'd send her your way. Seriously that's fine, I know that beast is going to take a lot of work and you don't want to rush it so go for it mate! Thumbs Up [tup] Just make sure you post progress updates for us all.
