Okay guys......I'm done with my KV-2.......

Here's the latest stage - I've more or less finished the tank now.

After dry-brushing with dark earth and white artist's oils

More or less the finished article with pastel shading and dry brushing complete, and application of MIG dry print transfers. It looks this beat up and dirty as it was one of the 12 Moscow veterans of  the 24th Tank Brigade in 1941 to make it through the entire war. The diorama will feature this tank in East Prussia, March 1945, which is why the winter lime and whitewash coat has diminished so much.

I just have the front light to mount - then we're finished and on to the figures!

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the work - I'll try and have the figures and maybe the diorama done by the end of the GB.

Whoa! I finally got started at the weekend with an aim to ending up a bit like Hermes example (very nice work!!)

The kit is very basic OOB and this represents about a day and a half's work....

This is the turret built OOB with the addition of a Czech Masters aluminum barrel. The Tamiya kit 1940 mantlet actually looks better than the resin 1941 one so I discarded the resin one.

After initial acrylic white coat, sepia/burnt umber oil wash and dry brushing with Xtracolor Russian tank green

Now added weathering coat of Humbrol Dark Earth/Black (5:4 mix), mainly to underside

Not the best pic, but starting to show well. Dry-brushing, tracks and pastel shading are the next steps, hopefully to be done this week.

Eventually this will figure in a street diorama with 11 figures! At least the tank will be finished by January!

yea those small parts are a pain in the neck.  you might try one of those serrated tipped tweezers.  it might damage the part if squeezed too hard, but it will hold on to it a lot better.

Are you still accepting people to join in? I have been doing modelling for about a year or two now, but at a very slow rate as my spare time is very limited. I have just started Trumpeter's KV 2, and would like to have my completed project reviewed when it is finished. I have a plan for a small diorama base, from a photo I have seen, so with my inspiration sorted I have begun my kit in earnest!

Mind you I have already had a disaster - dealing with the lifting eyes, using tweezers, and "ping"!!.... Now I'm a lifting eye short!... Any ideas how I can solve the problem? I doubt my capability of scratch building something I couldn't glue on in the first place...I really wish they would put more than the required amount in, say 10 instead of 8, in case of disasters like this. Oh well, I'm sure its not just me, or I at least hope its not.

I might jump in the GB guys if I can buy one of these Trumpeter kit, I don't know when but it seams to be quiet here so if I come up late with it, I thnik it will still be ok.

I just got my Osprey book on the KV series (on back order from Squadron). However, after perusing it I'm stuck in a bit of a dilemma that specifically concerns the triangular supports. I do not know the proper name for them but there are five of them on top of each fender. Here's the problem, the Tamiya kit has solid triangular supports, but the Eduard photo-etch set provides hollow replacements. The only photo (in the Osprey book) of a KV-1 w/ appliqué armor was a captured KV in Finnish service that has solid supports. Were both types used? I'm glad that I spotted this before carving off the molded-on -supports on the kit chassis.

Just an update........(and also an excuse to BUMP the thread)

Started on my KV-2 tonight, and I must say I am really liking the Trumpeter kit.  This is my first kit from Trumpeter and it seems to be just falling together.

The KV-2 is such an ugly tank that you just have to love it!

(Still looking for the Aber 152mm barrel....I like the rifling on the inside)

Of course I will count you in.  It feels kinda dead here since some of us are going to start late. 

I don't know where to find aber barrels.  Mission Models used to carry them.  I haven't gotten anything from them for a while so I don't know.

I now its kinda late, but I have a Trumpeter 1/35 KV-2 in the mail  (hopefully) and was wondering if I could sign up?

If so, I got a question....where is the best place to order the Abe barrel from?  Usually I get stuff from SQUADRON, but it does not seem to carry it.

Yea, I feel ya on that.  try debate which of the 6 KV kits to build with PE and which one to build first.  now THAT is a torment.
