Will,

Given that we've got a decent timeframe on this one, put me done as a starter.  I'll let you know later on what I'm building.

Will-Great subject, plenty of options, plenty of time (hopefully I'll have some free time come this fall ).  Not going to commit to a specific build yet (have to wait 'till the next Hobby Lobby 50% sale Big Smile [:D]) but please count me in.

Put me down as a maybe, my GBs are starting to stack up, but I would love to use this GB to motivate me to build my 1/35 Tamiya StugIIIG.  If I keep up the pace like I have been, I'll be able to hop on board for sure!

Okay okay I gotta do this one, the end date is just perfect!

Maybe the Tamiya 1:4872 british universal carrier or a 1:72 Tiger I. Maybe both!? Does anyone know if there is a 1:48 Tiger I for the D-Day time frame?

I've been saying I should do a target or two, maybe this'll be my chance to buck up, eh?

Jay I'm no Tiger expert but the Skybow 1/48th Late Tiger 1 should fit the timeframe perfectly.  I have this kit btw and it is an absolute gem.  Right down to the subtle zim which molded on to the tank.

Cheers

Hey guys & gals,
How about if someone can make a list like what aircrafts, armors, and ships that are present during that time. It would be helpfull for people that does not know the complete history of D-Day, like me Ashamed [*^_^*]

Sounds good, I was trying to figuire out what other kinds of armour was there.  I was doing research on the Universal carriers and what units used them (especially the Canadians on Juno Beach) but I wasn't getting good success.

Doh, I just realized this one has already started.  I'm going to work on my StugIII G on the side when I need a break from all my aircraft GBs.  I just need to decide on the markings/unit I want for it.

Well that gives me a few months to get a kit.  My B-day is in July, maybe I'll get a certain 1:48 Universal Carrier?

I was just browsing around when I saw this. You said this was a "D Day" GB, but from the vehicles you have listed this would be a Normandy campaign. When I did the first D day GB a few years back there was a big debate over letting tigers into the build. Eventually I had to say no because they were not at all a part of D day. I allowed anything from June 5-7 to be considered D day.

Tigers did not arrive until June 13th, and King tigers appeared in  Late july I belive. The hetzer was not even in Normandy until much later than the D day landings (months).

The SdKfz 251/1 Ausf A was not even in production. (only converted ambulance versions would have been seen).  I am not 100% sure on Panthers but I know none were used on Dday.

Pz Iv's, I am not sure which versions exactly would have been there (I think the H might have) so I cant help there.

The stug would have to be a Stug III Ausf G first production withough the saukopf manlet.

Also, there were a number of smaller stuff there. Several versions of the sdkfz 251, 250, 7, 9, 10  halftracks would have been there. Lighter flak guns were there too- flak 38, 38 vierling, 43 etc. Anti tank guns like the Pak 40 were there as well.

And I belive for the AC guys that only 2 FW 190's were able to get airborne, but not 100% sure.

I dont want to sound like an A hole or anything, I just thought I give you some info that I had to learn from my mistakes doing the first dday GB.

If it's only the first couple days of the invasion, then wouldn't that rule out most of the German armor as well?  I hope we're not restricting the dates to just the first couple days.

There were twenty FW190 A8s from JG2 that intercepted a raid of 9th Air Force B-26 Marauders over Pointe du Hoc on D-Day.

The two Fw190s you're thinking of were flown by Oberst Josef "Pips" Priller and his wingman, Unteroffizier Heinz Wodarczyk... they managed to pull off a strafing run on the beaches.

The Luftwaffe actually managed to do 170 sorties that day in the D-Day area, which is a small drop in the bucket compared to the 14,000 sorties flown by the allies.

Are you saying the A variant wasnt in it or that none of the "Hanomag's" were in it, because I know for a fact the C's and D's were being used.

Also this is now the Overlord and Normandy GB thank you for the correction!

The ausf A variant was not in Normandy 1944 as a troop carrier. The Ausf D was for sure. As for the C, I cant think of any pictures right now but I wouldn't doubt them being used as they were 2nr rate vehicles at the time and the early Normandy defenders were 2nd rate troops.

Is anyone building in this GB?  I am going to be getting the Tamiya 1:48 Universl Carrier soon, unfortunately I can't find any decals for a d-day unit but I did find one for a Canadian unit that fought in Normandy after d-day.

I have the parts washed for my StugIIIG, but haven't started it yet as I need to finish up 2 other projects before I derail myself again.  I'm hoping to start it next week.  I'm also still researching exactly how I want to paint the camo and what markings to use.
