Just starting mine, but I am doing the conversion that the kit has to make it a two seat "M" model. The first thing that I was reminded of the thick, hard plastic of Monogram. Also, the clear glass appears to be more brital )sp?) that others.
If you haven't started yet, all I can say is GO SLOW. This is a typical Monogram kit in that if you take some extra time (and putty, and sanding, and extra $$$ for the resin and photo etched); you can get a good looking plane. Just be patient with the kit; it being a Monogram, you need to work with it slowly. Don't try to set any speed building records with it. Since it is to be built for your daughter, make it a "labor of love".
I personally am not wild about the decals that came with the kit. I would recommend looking for a new set from one of the usual suspects. Since you said that you are making this for your daughter, get her involved in the decal selection. You might wind up with some crazy ideas from her. Who is to say that someone would not have painted a P-38 in lemon yellow for the race circuit? Or she might surprise you, and get into the research of the plane, and might, gasp, like history!
I will post some photos here as I get better progress done on mine.
