Axis Aces Sep 2006 - Jun 2007
Posted by espins1 on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:51 PM

Axis Aces GB, officially starts on September 1, 2006 to coincide with the day Germany invaded Poland.  Can be out of the box or with as much PE and resin as you can handle.  All scales welcome.  If you're interested just let me know and I'll add you to the roster.  Feel free to add posts with information regarding your chosen Ace and plane as I'd also like to see us learn some more about the history of the pilots etc.  If you need some help picking a plane and or an Ace there are some great resources on the web or I'm sure anyone of us can help you track down the information you need.

For those of you officially signed up for the build, feel free to display either one of these badges proudly.  Obviously if you end up dropping out remove the badge from your signature.  I will also post completion status on the main roster as we finish our projects.

Oh Double Crap!  yet another "Must Do" GB.  First the CBI GB, then the 2006 Midway GB, now this one.  I really want to do a Bf109, maybe Marseille's or Hartmann's in 1:72 Smile [:)].

Way to many good GBs... way to many good GBs....Banged Head [banghead]

ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!  I just placed an order at Squadron!  Looks like I will have to call again!Evil [}:)]

The bulk of what I am involved with should be either done or well underway before the start date on this one...no 109's or Zero's for this one...perhaps a Machi witht  eh Mike Grant smoke rings...hhhmmmm

I might be in... if I can find a kit to build! I have so many going right now... but this really seems interesting!

-Josh

Current Builds: If I were to list everything I have in progress, it'd take way too long! Some notable inclusions:

Hasegawa 1:48 KI-84

Tamiya 1:48 P-51D (in Iwo Jima long-range escort markings)

4 (yes, four) Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1s (1x -1D, 1x -1A, and 2x -1s)

Cool!  I'm glad to see there is some interest here.  Cool [8D]

Gunther Rall is one of my favorite pilots, I can't wait to have one of his mounts in my collection.  Smile [:)]

This one is still a ways off so we should have plenty of time to get most of our GBs done by then.  I have a lot of resource material, especially on the Germans so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask here and I'm sure either myself or our one of our many experts can help out.  Approve [^]

Make me a probable also. The Battle of the Atlantic GB will be over in August so I will be in providing things go well on the home front.

Interested.  Probably will be a 1/48 galland's white 3 ME 262 with verlinden detail set.  Have yet to get the kit as I got the bomber version being towed by a kettencraftrad.

I will definitely participate, a lot of different subjects.  Even if you limited it to pilots with 100+ kills you'd still have a huge list to choose from.

Just for fun, I might just take a list and pick a random pilot, half the fun for me is trying to track down detail pictures, decals, etc.

Count me in.  Should be done with my BF109G-10 by then. I want to do a A6M Zero so I will try to research Hiroyoshi Nishizawa.

EDIT: I Know he flew like 5 diff planes.. now I jsut need to decide which I want to build and if we have it at my store.

So change of plans. I found a A6M2 Zero at my work that has decals for Tetsuzo Iwamoto. He had an estimated 80 kills and survived the entire war only to die afterwards because of illness.. so i read. Its a Tamiya 1/48 kit.

Since I already have it tucked away in the stash - I'll give a Messerschmitt BF109G-2 a shot. Will most likely be OOTB with paint and markings representing Wilhelm Schilling, JG54 1942.

Ok Scott I figured what to build I am going to do Josef"Pips" Priller's Fw 190/A-5 "Black-13" .He was the german ace with the most Spitfire kills 68 spits out of his 101 total, another historical note he and his wingman were the only german aircraft to strafe the normandy beaches on D-day more info to come Big Smile [:D] TTFN

Cool deal, I updated the front page.  Is that the Tamiya or Hasegawa kit and safe to assume 1/48?  Smile [:)]

Scott I thought I'd better start post here rather than in the Allied Aces GB, so in answer to your question yes my build is the Tamiya 1/48 Me 262 A-1a.

Having not opened the box on the kit for quite a while now I have no idea what decals are in there but I think I will probably try and do Bar's red 13.

Cheers

Ah just thing to settle my nerves count me in if you can put up with an intruder over to this side of the model  world
Used to do the planes years ,and years ago then made the move to the dark side (motorbikes) Love speed.
Start dte allows me to do a bit of research on a pilot and choose a plane ,but will 1/48,Can't afford 1/32 and 1/72 to small for my clumsy fingers.

Darren-excellent choice.  I built the same plane (Bar's Red 13) for the Battle of Germany GB.  A lot of detail there.  Are you going to do yours in the grey scheme (per instructions) or the later green version?

Bob I think I'll do mine in the grey scheme as I've got two other Luftwaffe builds on the go at the moment both of which are RLM 81/82 over 76 so something a bit different is order of the day.  Also I think the grey scheme looks really cool Thumbs Up [tup].

Cheers

I built a Tamiya FW190A8 which was an absolute gem to build.  So if their A5 is anything like it, you'll be pleased.  I'm not sure about the Hasegawa kits, although I'm sure you can't go wrong theirs either.
