P-47 "Jug" Group Build

Greg, I'll probably start around the end of September, my official entry will be the Tamiya bubbletop, but I've also got the Academy N that I would like to get built.

Any idea about a badge yet?  I can help with that.

Hopefully there will be more JUGs soom

For a start, I just got a "Zemke's wolfpack" - a lot of pictures I did not see yet and a lot of stories of 56FG. Its a very interesting reading.

Currently I work on a P-47M flown by Lanowski. It is a Tamiya 1/48, very nice kit. I will post some additional pictures but currently only cockpit and part of the engine is done.

MPM did do a kit of the XP-47H, I built it a few years ago.  One thing they missed was that the air scoop up behind the cockpit should be on both sides, not just one the way the kit is.

Here's possible badge for the GB, feel free to make suggestions, offer a different picture, or just say you hate it.  It's easy enough to change.  It's available at this size or up 1280 by 900 or so.

And from everything I've read about the Hasegawa P-47, it's going to be hard to beat! 

What has anybody heard about the Vintage models  1/24 'bolt.

I'd do it. I own an R-2800 piston so that might be a suitable base. Served as an ashtray all through the sixties...probably pretty illegal. The wrist pin is a formidable object all by itself.

My buddy Airman Jim who likes a/c but doesn't model has bought a couple of P-40's in that scale/from them which looked ok.

Story- typical Bondoman blather- my Father-in-law was crew chief for a pilot named Atwater whom he teamed with, and just worshipped about, thru nightfighters. P-70, Beaufighter then P-61s. Atwater finally got a P-47 and asked F-I-L to come with. "Only if it gets a back seat!", sez Don! I'd be happy to tell more abt all of those a/c and him because I have 100's of hrs. of his personal history.

Sad to say Captain Atwater was killed in a landing accident. I would do his a/c. I believe that he was in a Squadron in middle Italy in 1944.

OK fess up it's Friday afternoon and I'm into adult bev. #3. There was a story abt p-47s in the Air and Space recently that had photos of these on the taxiways in winter 44 in Northern Europe. The Crew chief would lie on the right wing with a (gloved) hand over/around the weapons on the leading edge and signal to the pilot with his other hand which way to steer. Don sez there was a 6x6 at the beginning of the runway to pick them up. We cannot thank these people enough.

As far as the tv show on P-47 - was it a "The most dadly aircraft - P-47" ??

Well, consider me tentatively interested.  I'm still trying to decide between a jug and a corsair for my next build.

If I settle on the jug, I'll join more officially.  It's a 1/48 hasegawa D Razorback with a verlinden super detail set.  Paint/decal scheme will be 368th FG.
