Revival of Artillery GB!
Posted by m1garand on Sunday, September 30, 2007 9:12 AM

Here's the Artillery GB information and hope many of you would join up.

Start date: 1 November 2007

End date: 31 May 2008

Recommending that: Any artillery pieces (both SP/Towed/Rail/Stationary).  Mortars, Anti-Aircraft Artillery guns.  Since there aren't as many artillery kits available compared to other genre and many of you asked if they can participate in this GB by building Anti-Tank guns, I'd say go for it, but please try to keep it to towed AT guns instead of something like M-36 Jackson.  Also, consider things like StuG with 105mm, Sherman with 105mm, U.S. M8 75mm and any vehicle that carried howitzer/artillery pieces.

As of 17 November 2007, following modelers have commit to it:

M1Garand - 1/35 Italeri Paladin

Heavyarty - ?

Jthurston: Verlinden 88mm PAK43

AaronW: 1/35 Italeri BM13

koenigtiger: PaK38

Mainstein's Revenge: Mortar?

Steelrudi: 1/72 G5

fantacmet: AS-90

terry35: ?

Chimera: M198 (pending on arrival of 155mm tube)

squeakie: Vietnam era 155mm or Marder II (DO BOTH~!)

redleg12: M115

Southern Dragon : PAK40/L46

OrgeJohn: 10.5CM Howitzer.

Kenny Conklin: Leopold Railgun (I know you said you'd consider joining on later date, but I'm volunteering you Big Smile [:D])

Gun Tech: Flak 36 88mm (Again, I'm also volunteering you for this GB)

Armornut: AFV PAK 46

RuddRatt: 1/35 AVF Club german 10.5cm leFH 18 Field Howitzer

AJB98: 1:72 Scratch building U.S. Navy 4 Inch / 50 Naval Gun

Dougums: 1/35 Dragon 2cm FLAK 38

JMART: Tamiya Marder III/ 3.7 PAK 35/36

Dostacos: British 6 pounder gun

MadMike: 1/72 Hasegawa 155mm Long Tom

As promised here is my draft idea for the badge. Let me know what you think. I have to clean up around the CFAB but wanted to get your ideas first.

Give me your ideas. If we don't like it I will just move on to building!!!!

Let me know

OK...Here is the touched up badge. Hopefully this works for everyone!

Heavy - I'll cut a deal...you do the M43, I'll give the M56 Atomic Annie a try (at least the gun, it's not quite Dora but it is a busy kit). I'll e-mail some details.

Any comments are welcome.

My M109A6 is just waiting for the paint job.  Since I started this kit prior to this GB, I'll also build another artillery piece during this period.

Well, I've never joined a group build before. I have this kit of a German 10.5cm L.F.H. 18(M) field gun I bought probably back in the late 80s. It's a Hinchliffe metal kit. Looks to be a so so kit as far as assembly and detail. There is no scale indicated on the box or instructions but it looks close to being 1/35. I guess I'm in if it's OK. Be warned my lack of skills and my pestering questions might get on a few nerves. Still OK to join?

Steelrudi,

I can't wait either.  Since my M109A6 is pretty much done, I'll have to figure out what I'm going to build in November.  I have 155mm and 105mm U.S. howitzers (Testor and Italeri kits) that I am dying to build.  Also have Dragon's MLRS that I'm planning to build also.  Can't wait!

Ok, here's my first group build project and next victim. The thing has been laying around in my stash for quite some time so I can wait till Nov. Never mind the guy at the top of the cutting mat. He helps to keep the carpet monsters at bay!Smile [:)]

Staten Island?

I used to commute to Staten Island 3 times a month from Northport for about a year.  That was a hike.  Kenny, I hope you and your family like the new setting.  YEs, I have volunteered you just like the good ole' Army way.  Stop by more often!

OK...After further review...I am going to stay with my original idea, the M115 8 inch. I am getting into finishing the prime mover, the M4 HST which is a rework of a Nitto kit. By hopefully 11/1 I will be getting into the M115. IF I finish early Whistling [:-^] I will attack the M56 Atomic Annie.

With the holidays and some buisness trips I know that are coming, I would like to finish the M115. The M56 is not Dora but there is a LOT of work on that one.

So count me in on the M115.(at a minimum) Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Thanks

Roger that RedLeg12.

Kenny, are you commuting from S.I. to Astoria/L.I.C.? That's a killer commute.

Guntech: good to hear that you are doing well.

Terry: Did you decide which kit you want to build?

Out of curiousity, has anyone ever been interested in building a model of Gerald Bull's final Project Babylon Supergun prototype, which I believe was horizontal and had a barrel length of 176 meters. At 1:35 that would be 5 meters, kind of big.

At 1:72 it would be half that, could be crewed by available figures, and might be worth a go.

Your thoughts?

Bondoman,

I personally don't know anything about that product.  It seems like it is one big bad Whooping gun.

It seems to be there is some confusion in regard to Artillery GB project.

Back in July of this year, Southern Dragon proposed Artillery GB, but for some reason, it just faded away.  I wanted to participated in this project, so it was revived in late September.

Keep in mind that when I revived it, I didn't mean to start totally separate GB, but just wanted to get it going again.  There is only ONE Artillery GB and Southern Dragon said he will take over the responsibility of keeping this GB moving.  Yes, we are still on and according to him, this project has already begun, so you can start building your artillery/SPG/SP Howitzers/Anti-tank guns/AAA guns at any time.

Good luck and good building!
