well here's the plan, and let you guys think on it for a spell.

The boat I really wanted to do was the C.S.S. Hunnley from the War Between The States, but my local hobby shop can't find it. I did see a really neat 1/72 scale Uboat from Revel. They also had the same thing in a Gato class sub too. I know the afore boat is somewhat eccentric, but also very unique. And to be honest with you it'd be my first choice.

If I go with the U-boat, I'd kinda like to have the crew standing on the deck as if it's heading out to sea (like I said I can somewhat eccentric at times). Now I have not built a ship since I was a freshman in highschool, so maybe this will be like returning to a younger age.

I think your crew idea would be a nice touch. Go for it

I may end up building two subs...just depends on $ once this one is done. I'm eyeballing a WolfPack U-Boat aswel.

We are selling my house and I'm moving so progress may be slow for awhile. I gotta pack everything up for myself then again for my parents to get them settled in.

But....Cheers to being able to airbrush inside, play my music loud, get very very intoxicated and build my models in peace. :-)

well I actually did find that elusive civil war submarine! There were actually two of them, so I might just build one of the two plus the U-Boat. I also have found U-Boat crew figures (well three of them), but they aren't what I was looking for. I guess maybe I could look thru the HO Gauge stuff and make do with short people! My 40% cupon comes out this weekend, so I'm buying the U-Boat for sure.

Gary - I'm planning on a U-505 as well.  I'm using the Nichimo 1:200 Type IXC kit.  Revell has a kit that is boxed as U-505 (the one they sell at the Museum), but it bears little resemblance to the real thing.

Waste Land, I was wondering if you got my PM about what I'm building. In case you didn't, it's the 1/144 Trumpeter Kilo Class sub.

well I did find the figures I wanted from Andrea, and they look really nice. The next thing is how will I display a 37" boat? It's really too big for a waterline exibit, and may just do the normal thing with the crew standing on the deck and in the sail like it's heading out to sea. The next issue is how does one paint something that big? It's too big for a spray booth, and I'd hate to use spray cans (s) on something that nice. My old H-1 airbrush has bottles that will easilly hold enough paint, so that's not an issue. I really think this submarine will become one of my favorite projects.

I'm drying to decide wether I should build then paint or paint then build. I'm leaving more towards painting after the build is almost done

The only PM you have sent me was the one for the Italeri S.L.C. 200 Maiale

I'd say just drape some old sheets around your work bench...hook up a computer fan into a filter and spray away.

As for spraying, maybe you can do one half at a time... start at the con tower, AB towards the bow... let paint dry, switch, paint the other half.. not a "good" solution, as you will be spraying in two different directions... or maybe just go outside before it gets too cold, do couple light coats, then come inside to the both for finishing coats one-half boat at a time. Maybe ask around to the people who have done the new Gato sub...

I just picked up a late cold war ARII sub lot (1:700), have to decide whether to make japanese, soviet or american boat (Yushio Class, Alfa Class or LosAngeles Class)... let you know soon!

well I'm all psyched up now after watching Das Boot! I hope they got the colors of the uniforms right, and I'm now planning on the return trip. Not going out to sea.

Picked up a 1/72 scale U-boat yesterday, so that part of the parts hunt is over. Trying to find the Eudard PE set for this boat, but so far they are few and far between. And then there's the figures. I wonder how many meals I'll have to miss befroe I get all this together?

I picked up some paints today at work(HobbyLobby) for some 1/72 aircraft aswel as some for the Typhoon.

I keep eyeballing this....36 inches

I want it but not the price tag....$70 - (15% employee discount + 25% model sell) = $42......Ahhhhh dont wanna pay it still!

....then i saw the trump Seawolf 1/44 too and liked it too......errrrr

I wanna do another nuclear but then again I wanna do a WWII era even more....combined with the rest of my models. Sigh [sigh]

I havn't built a ship since I was in high school, and you only live once. Problem I'm now having is just what color the hull really is. The only one I've ever seen was a gull grey color with a lot of rust on it (Chicago).

I'm going to built the Revell 1/72 scale type VIIC. Kit # 05015. I'd also like to add the Eduard PE set and two sets of figures on the deck. Been doing some research on the subject, and the more I investigate the deeper I get into the U-boat quagmire.

Upon taking a close look at the kit, the first dissappointment was with the low quality flags that were sent with the kit. But somebody makes a better set as I saw them in pictures. Also found out that there are a few small errors in the hull casting that will have tobe corrected. I'm learning something completely new to me, so bear with me for a little bit.

Im 0 for 2 in GB this week...  got my 1:700 sub lot and Im very dissapointed.... very small (for some reason I thought I had 1:350 or 1:500 scales), barely 3-4 inches, less than 15 pieces per sub. ARII maker, all subs are cold war types.

I have to finish other GBs and rethink the sub, will do more research and get a better kit, NOT 1:700, too small for my eyes! Will get back in here in a few and report progress...~!

Started on my sub today, here are two pictures

The kit also comes with an I-58 that I might enter in this build later. The I-16 is the one on the right.

Here is a picture to show how small the sub really is. However it seems big after building a 1/700 minesweeper

I only took the hull part off the sprue today. I really can't do much else till I paint the deck. I'm hoping to get the deck painted this weekend.

I also would like to see a picture of a 1/72 Air Plane against the 1/72 Revell u-boats.....

I'm looking at this picture and thinking..........these are not the same scale but it could be just my eyes playing tricks on me

well for all of us that are doing U-boats, I ran accross a website that is a wealth of information (many of you probably already know about it). It's called Uboat.net. Found it tobe so interesting that I can see another U-boat in my future.
